Yan Mo stood behind Shu Xin, following her gaze to the distant Ye Yuhan. He noticed the brief flicker of killing intent in her eyes when she turned around after arguing with the two people.
That killing intent disappeared quickly, so fast that it was almost undetectable. Ordinary people would probably think it was just an illusion, that they had seen wrong, but Yan Mo was sure that the killing intent had been real.
Ye Yuhan was definitely not ordinary. The emotions in her eyes and the aura she projected were too out of place for her age. Even from this distance, Yan Mo could feel the hostility emanating from her. Despite her apparent attempts to control it, it still leaked out in her every gesture and movement.
To think that there was such a dangerous presence in this neighborhood, it seemed like one could never let their guard down.
This little incident wasn’t something people took seriously, and soon, all their attention was drawn to the government’s distribution of relief supplies.
The distribution was punctual. As soon as the clock struck 8:00, the first person in line received their package, which was in a large black plastic bag, making it impossible to see its contents.
The people who got their packages opened them and took a look. Inside, there was a ten-pack of instant noodles, ten kilograms of potatoes, ten kilograms of cabbage, ten kilograms of rice, two bundles of noodles, a piece of meat weighing more than a pound, and ten candles. The supplies were quite plentiful and varied.
With so much food, one person could easily survive for seven days, and there would still be leftovers. Yet, some people were still dissatisfied, greedily wishing for more, grumbling that the government was being stingy.
The supplies were distributed once every seven days, and whether the next batch would be of the same quality or quantity was a huge question. As the free supplies dwindled, they would only become fewer and worse. When things really became dire, there wouldn’t be time to be picky about what was distributed; people would just be grateful to have anything to eat.
The military stood nearby with guns to maintain order, and no one dared to cause trouble. The entire distribution process went smoothly. Shu Xin and the others were near the front of the line and received their supplies in less than half an hour.
They didn’t linger outside. As soon as they got their supplies, they rushed home. The short trip left them drenched in rain despite wearing raincoats, with no dry spot on their bodies.
To avoid catching a cold, the four of them quickly went inside, took hot showers, and changed into dry clothes. They collapsed comfortably on the living room couch. Going out felt even more exhausting than training at home.
Exhaustion from going outside was mental, while the exhaustion at home was physical. At noon, Shu Xin wanted to eat the iron pot stew that she had stored in her space. After quietly asking Yan Mo and getting his approval, she stealthily took the food out from her space. She had Yan Mo carry it outside, which made it seem more reasonable.
Living together and spending so much time together, it wouldn’t be long before they couldn’t hide the space, and there was no need to. Yan Mo and Shu Xin discussed it and decided to tell Bo Xiangwen and Mu Qimai about the space. They were two people they absolutely trusted and knew wouldn’t betray them.
However, after the zombie outbreak, people’s abilities had become bizarre and unpredictable. Fearing that someone might be able to read other people’s memories, Yan Mo decided that when he told them about the space, he would pretend to be the owner of the space in order to protect Shu Xin’s safety to the greatest extent possible.
Shu Xin knew that Yan Mo would eventually awaken his mental abilities, so she fully supported his idea.
Being able to read others’ memories was essentially a branch of mental abilities. As long as the other person’s mental power was higher, there would be nothing Yan Mo could do to stop them.
In the book, Yan Mo was a high-level mental ability user. At least in the parts she had seen, no one’s mental power surpassed his. The idea of reading Yan Mo’s memories was utterly ridiculous.
By telling Bo Xiangwen and Mu Qimai, even if someone could read their memories and discovered the space, they would only learn that the owner of the space was Yan Mo. And Yan Mo’s combat ability wasn’t something anyone could easily defeat.
As for why Shu Xin wasn’t worried about her own memories being read, it was because the jade pendant space had its own protective mechanisms. To prevent others from prying, it would automatically block any memories related to the specifics of the space, making it impossible for anyone to discover it.
With Yan Mo’s protection and the perfect safeguard that acted like a safety net, Shu Xin had no fear of the space being exposed as long as she didn’t act recklessly and expose her space. As long as she stayed safe, she had no reason to worry.
Once people started awakening their abilities, Shu Xin could easily pretend that her ability was spatial. Taking things out of her space wouldn’t raise any suspicion.
After all, spatial ability users were rare, but they weren’t non-existent.
So, in the past few days, Yan Mo had subtly mentioned his space to Bo Xiangwen and Mu Qimai. After Yan Mo had openly admitted to the apocalypse, both of them seemed to have a much higher capacity for acceptance.
They no longer reacted with the same surprise as before. In fact, they seemed to accept it quite well. If Yan Mo had told them that the Earth was about to explode, they probably wouldn’t have reacted much differently.
These days, Shu Xin had completely let herself go. Almost every meal consisted of food stored in her space. Not only did it satisfy her cravings, but it also spared her the trouble of cooking. From now on, taking out anything delicious would be much more convenient. It was a win-win, and Shu Xin was thoroughly pleased.
