Chapter 23: Sleepy Little Piggy
The restaurant was inside a large hotel. Tang Xin strolled leisurely, taking nearly ten minutes before she finally stepped out of the hotel’s main entrance.
A car slowly pulled up to the curb.
A luxurious Rolls-Royce—very familiar-looking.
As she tilted her head slightly, trying to confirm its familiarity, the car came to a complete stop in front of her. The rear window rolled down, revealing the strikingly handsome face of a man. Turning his sharp, phoenix-like eyes to her, he spoke coolly, “Get in.”
Tang Xin, too lazy to call a cab, loved generous people who offered her a ride.
Without hesitation, she walked over and got in.
The car’s interior was spacious, with a small table in front of her holding a laptop. The man sat upright, engrossed in his work, not sparing her a glance.
Tang Xin didn’t want to bother him.
It was a scorching afternoon, and getting a ride home was good enough. No need to invite unnecessary trouble.
Tang Xin was born in the Year of the Pig.
Whether in her previous life or this one, her habits were much like her zodiac: she was lazy, loved food, and adored sleep.
A classic example of a carefree soul… albeit in a slim body.
Leaning comfortably to the side, she stifled a yawn. It was her post-meal drowsiness setting in. With the soft car seat and the cool air conditioning, it wasn’t long before she started dozing off… and then completely fell asleep.
As she slept, her body began to tilt. Each time her head drooped, she would jerk awake, sit upright again, and quickly doze off, only to repeat the cycle several times.
Yue Yuze: “…” Why did she remind him of a particularly sleepy little piglet?
And yet, despite all this, she still managed to fall asleep again within seconds.
This woman was truly…
Closing his laptop softly, Yue Yuze glanced at the foolish woman beside him, whose body had begun to slide sideways again. Letting out a quiet sigh, he shifted slightly, his tall frame moving closer to her. Sitting beside her, he let her lean against him, her small face resting lightly on his shoulder.
After all the tossing and turning, her straight, shoulder-length hair had become slightly messy, with a few strands falling across her face.
Yue Yuze lowered his gaze, his eyes lingering on her palm-sized, porcelain-white face. Hesitating for a moment, he reached out to gently brush the stray strands of hair from her face.
But his gaze refused to move away.
For the first time, he found himself looking at her so closely—studying her delicate features. Her long, curled eyelashes resembled a cute little brush, her lips soft and rosy, their shape like the most beautiful petal of a peach blossom—utterly charming.
Raising his hand, he lightly traced her slender brows, her elegant nose, and her full, red lips. He had to admit, this woman looked incredibly sweet and well-behaved when she was asleep, entirely unlike her usual muddled and infuriating self.
Almost unconsciously, he leaned down slowly, his thin lips nearly brushing against hers, which looked so soft and inviting…
But just as he was about to touch them, he snapped back to his senses and abruptly straightened up. What was he doing?
Leaning back against the seat, Yue Yuze took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
His heart was racing uncontrollably, though he wasn’t sure if it was due to that fleeting loss of self-control or the quick halt to his foolish actions.
He had actually… wanted to kiss this woman.
Not as a challenge. Not for any particular reason. Just a simple, inexplicable desire.
He couldn’t make sense of the feeling, but it was strong and unfamiliar, threatening to slip beyond his control. The sensation annoyed him, and suddenly, the woman leaning against him felt like a dangerous presence.
Without hesitation, he pushed her away.
Yes, push her far away so she couldn’t affect him anymore.
“Mmm… Don’t…” Tang Xin, still sound asleep, was unhappy about being shoved. Instinctively, she scooted back toward him, groping around until she latched onto him tightly and continued her nap.
Yue Yuze: “…”
Looking at the woman clinging to his arm, her small face nuzzling against him like a piglet—no, a foolish woman—he…
Fine.
He would endure it.
After all, he had been the one to let her into the car.
Yue Yuze convinced himself with a myriad of reasons to tolerate her as she continued sleeping against his shoulder.
Nearly an hour later, they arrived at the company.
The driver waited for a while but, seeing that his boss hadn’t exited the car, decided to open the rear door himself. What he saw stunned him—Mrs. Tang was sound asleep, nestled against Mr. Yue’s shoulder.
“Young Master, this…”
Having enjoyed a blissful hour-long nap, Tang Xin slowly stirred at the sound of movement. Looking around groggily, she asked, “Are we home?”
Driver Old Zhang quickly responded, “Young Madam, we’ve arrived at the company.”
“What? The company?” Tang Xin’s eyes widened. “Weren’t we heading home?”
“Who told you we were going home?” The man’s cold voice came from above her. When she looked up and met his gaze, he wore an expression of disdain as he reminded her, “You’ve been leaning on me and sleeping the entire way. What now? Can’t bear to part?”
Leaning… on him?
Tang Xin glanced at the distance between them. Oh no. She really had been!
Hurriedly, she sat upright and scooted to the side.
Yue Yuze picked up his laptop and stepped out of the car.
“Hey, uh… is the driver going to take me home?” Aren’t you going to care about me?
Yue Yuze turned to her. “Is he your driver?”
“N-no…” Why is he asking that?
The man’s thin lips curved, but it was a cold smile. “Then what makes you think you can order him to take you home?”
“…” Tang Xin was fuming. “You’re the one who told me to get in the car!”
“Yes,” Yue Yuze replied, looking at her puffed-up face with surprising amusement. “But did I say I was taking you home? You’re the one who assumed. Who’s to blame for that?”
Tang Xin: “…” I, I… I want to hit him! But… I can’t beat him anyway!
“Fine! Bad luck for me!” She grabbed her bag angrily and got out of the car from the other side.
This damned male lead! Stupid Yue Yuze!
“If you wait until the afternoon, Old Zhang can drive you back home. Driving too much at noon makes him tired,” Yue Yuze said nonchalantly.
Old Zhang: “…” Young Master, you’re suddenly so considerate—I’m overwhelmed!
“I’ll hail a cab myself. I… I have things to do!” Tang Xin retorted. She couldn’t possibly admit she was just planning to go home and sleep. If she said that, Yue Yuze, this insufferable man, would definitely mock her again.
“Oh…” Yue Yuze slowly retracted his gaze, speaking in his usual unhurried tone. “That’s a pity. I was planning to have dinner tonight at a seafood restaurant that’s supposed to be exceptionally good. I thought, since you’re here, you could join me. But if you’re busy…”
“Mr. Yue, I suddenly remembered that what I have to do isn’t urgent at all!” Tang Xin quickly walked over to him, looked up at him with bright, smiling eyes, and said sweetly, “It’s such a rare opportunity to visit the Yue Sen Corporation. I’ve been longing to see your CEO’s office! Someone as elegant as you must have an equally unique office. I’d love to have the honor of seeing it… Mr. Yue, please let me go to the company with you. I really want to take a look at your office!”
Old Zhang, listening on the side and completely dumbfounded: “…” Madam, you’re a master of quick mood changes!
Yue Yuze smirked and strode toward the elevator.
Tang Xin quickly followed him like a happy little puppy.
Old Zhang… turned around and drove home.
He was supposed to be off duty anyway—the afternoon to evening shift belonged to Old Li. After dropping the Young Master at the company, he was heading back to the villa, but he wasn’t a fool. It was obvious the Young Master wanted to keep the Young Madam around!
From the underground parking lot to the sixteenth floor, where the CEO’s office was located, Yue Yuze took the exclusive CEO elevator. As a result, only a few people caught sight of Tang Xin, his little shadow, along the way.
However, there was someone in the office.
Fan Bei.
Fan Bei knew the boss was scheduled to have lunch with Lin Shiyin. This was part of his responsibilities. But now, the boss had returned, with a tagalong—not Lin Shiyin, who was supposed to be with him, but Tang Xin!
“Boss, how come Miss Tang—” Fan Bei didn’t finish his sentence, but the implication was clear.
Yue Yuze walked to his desk, sat down, and glanced casually at the woman standing by the sofa. “Ran into her at lunch. She insisted on coming along.”
Tang Xin: … I feel so wronged, but I won’t say it!
Fan Bei chuckled softly. “Oh, insisted on coming along, huh…” Like I’d believe that!
If the boss didn’t want someone tagging along, who would dare? It was obvious she was brought here willingly. Boss, be careful—acting aloof is satisfying, but courting disaster is inevitable!
“Miss Tang, please, have a seat.” Fan Bei warmly gestured to her. “Would you like something to drink?”
“Anything is fine.” Tang Xin sat on the sofa and smiled at him.
“How about a cup of milk tea?”
“Sure, thank you.”
It was a little past 2 PM. After that, Yue Yuze and Fan Bei got down to work, even leaving for a meeting that lasted over an hour.
Tang Xin stayed in the office, calmly playing games on her phone without feeling bored.
If anyone could sit still and endure long hours of solitude, it would undoubtedly be a writer like Tang Xin. She was a homebody through and through.
However, during this time, a few senior executives came into the CEO’s office. They were startled to see Tang Xin sitting there.
At first, they thought she might be a visiting client or someone important.
But no matter how they speculated, they couldn’t fathom how this woman, sitting there so casually, fit into the life of their boss, a man famously distant from women.
Their shock turned to disbelief when, during a conversation, Yue Yuze went to pour himself a glass of water. Tang Xin, engrossed in her game, pushed her cup forward and said softly but matter-of-factly, “I want water too.”
… And then Yue Yuze actually poured water for her himself.
It was a jaw-dropping moment!
Yue Yuze, personally serving this woman?
Who was this woman?!
