Chapter 9: It’s a Matter Between My Husband and Me
“Leave the Shen family?” Qin Yuwei’s face changed completely, and it took several seconds for her to recover. “Nanyan, do you really think of me as someone you can summon and dismiss at will? I’ve been in the Shen family for three years, watching Xiao Mumu grow up, personally teaching him so many things. Even if I have no merit, I’ve certainly put in effort. Young Master Shen won’t let me leave.”
She spoke the last sentence with full confidence.
Gu Nanyan withdrew her gaze from the starry sky and looked at Qin Yuwei, gently curling her lips into a smile. “The servants at home have all watched Xiao Mumu grow up too. Everyone has worked hard, so what makes you different?”
Hearing Gu Nanyan compare her to the servants, Qin Yuwei’s face turned pale.
“Nanyan, have you forgotten your situation?” Qin Yuwei tried to stay calm. “You think just because you’ve broken up with He Yunrui, you can stay in the Shen family peacefully? Young Master Shen doesn’t love you; he’ll still divorce you.”
“Whether he loves me or not, that’s between my husband and me. As long as I haven’t signed the divorce papers, I’ll always be Mrs. Shen.” Gu Nanyan looked at Qin Yuwei’s ambitious face and sneered. “You can stay in the Shen family, but let me remind you—leaving on your own terms and being kicked out have very different consequences.”
“I’ll make it clear to you. I will never leave the Shen family. I will stay here and watch just how long your position as Mrs. Shen lasts.”
After coldly saying this, Qin Yuwei stood up and walked away.
Gu Nanyan watched her leave with a calm expression, one hand lazily resting on her head, deep in thought.
Qin Yuwei, this scheming woman, had caused her to lose so many relationships, and now she had to humbly repair them one by one.
If she just let Qin Yuwei leave the Shen family now, wouldn’t that be giving her an advantage?
Staying in the Shen family is fine, then she would take her time playing this game.
Even though no one in the Shen family considered her Mrs. Shen now, and she had no real power, as long as Shen Boyan didn’t divorce her, she would always be the mistress of the Shen family.
Shen Boyan probably wouldn’t bring up divorce again, right?
Gu Nanyan felt confident she could mend all the relationships, but whether Shen Boyan would fall in love with her was still uncertain.
But no matter what, she still had Xiao Mumu.
Xiao Mumu had already accepted her.
Thinking of Xiao Mumu, Gu Nanyan’s expression softened considerably.
Her mood also lifted as she tilted her head back, continuing to count the stars in the sky.
Shen Boyan spent more than half an hour with Xiao Mumu in the children’s room before leaving.
Back in the study on the second floor, Ling Hanzhi had already placed a large stack of documents on the desk.
Shen Enterprise had grown rapidly under his management, and now it had expanded to various countries. Naturally, he was busier than most people.
Aside from squeezing in some time to accompany his child, he was a workaholic.
But today, for some reason, as he looked at the pile of documents, he wasn’t in the mood to work.
With one hand in the pocket of his tailored suit, Shen Boyan turned gracefully, his cold and dignified figure taking a few steps to the window.
The night was silent, and the manor’s dim lights were all on.
The garden was full of blooming flowers, and the night breeze carried a fragrant floral scent.
Shen Boyan wasn’t one to appreciate flowers, but he gave a cursory glance at the garden.
His gaze suddenly stopped at a particular spot.
Under the magnolia tree, a small figure sat on a wicker lounge chair, looking up with a hand stretched into the air, seemingly counting something.
Shen Boyan froze for a moment, then looked up at the night sky.
The stars twinkled across the sky like a masterful painting.
Though he had owned this secluded mansion for many years, Shen Boyan had never really paid attention to the stars here.
Now, as he gazed at the sparkling constellations, a faint shift appeared in his usually indifferent eyes.
But soon, his gaze returned to the study below.
The figure under the magnolia tree had already disappeared.
The flicker of emotion in his eyes faded, and his cold figure walked toward the stack of documents on the desk.
………
The next day.
After breakfast, Xiao Mumu went to his early education class, and Shen Boyan went to the company.
Gu Nanyan, with nothing much to do, brought her laptop to the family’s cherry blossom grove.
The cherry blossoms were in full bloom, and as Gu Nanyan walked through the grove, her dress became dotted with petals.
She reached the pavilion in the center of the grove, picked a comfortable spot, and began using her laptop while enjoying the flowers.
Thanks to the internet, she could look up complicated medical cases researched by experts online.
Many experts left their email addresses, and when she found an interesting case, she noted them down.
The spring breeze blew through the grove, and petals floated into the pavilion, covering the place.
Some petals even landed on her laptop, which she was about to brush off when she noticed an email notification on her inbox.
She immediately opened it.
To her surprise, the sender was—Gu Nancheng.
Her brother.
For some reason, the mention of Gu Nancheng stirred something deep in her heart, evoking a trace of guilt.
Gu Nancheng: [Senior, your email has been incredibly helpful to me. I would love to meet you in person and discuss further. Would it be possible to have the honor?]
The reply was simple: her brother had mistaken her for a senior in the medical field and wanted to meet.
Gu Nanyan quickly replied: [Now is not the right time for a meeting. When the time is right, I will come to find you. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.]
Once she sent the reply, just as she was about to close the inbox, she found that Gu Nancheng seemed to be waiting for her response, as he quickly sent another email.
Gu Nancheng: [How should I address you, Senior?]
Gu Nanyan: …
Her brother’s constant use of “Senior” left her unsure of how to respond.
After thinking for a moment, Gu Nanyan replied: [The name doesn’t matter. If you have any medical questions, just ask me.]
After sending the message, Gu Nanyan closed her laptop.
She stood up, taking a few steps under the cherry blossom tree, watching the petals drift through the air and smelling the sweet fragrance, her face gradually softening into a smile.
She had finally contacted her brother.
Soon, she would have a family of her own.
…….
After half a day of early education, Xiao Mumu was brought back in the afternoon.
Seeing that the child liked to be close to her, Gu Nanyan stayed by his side.
The mother and son spent the afternoon happily together, and Xiao Mumu, who rarely smiled, showed a few smiles on his face today.
Surprisingly, Qin Yuwei didn’t disturb them. Instead, she stood quietly in the distance with a meaningful expression on her face.
Gu Nanyan, you just keep spending time with him.
Let Xiao Mumu skip his homework and play with you all day. When Young Master Shen comes back, let’s see how you explain yourself.
In the evening, Shen Boyan’s car drove into the manor.
Shen Boyan returned earlier than usual today.
His assistant followed him back, and once they arrived, they went straight to the study.
Ling Hanzhi left with a pile of documents in his arms.
As soon as he left, a servant responsible for attending to Xiao Mumu knocked on the door of Shen Boyan’s study.
After receiving permission, the servant entered. “Young Master, I need to talk to you about something regarding Little Master.”
