Chapter 29: Brother Takes Revenge
“Who did this?!” Big Zhuang ran to Bai An’s side, wanting to touch her bleeding forehead, but hesitated and nervously paced around her instead.
Bai An didn’t want to speak; she was feeling a bit dizzy and realized she needed to treat the wound on her forehead quickly.
Seeing that Bai An was ignoring him, Big Zhuang became anxious and said, “I’ll go find the teacher!” He immediately ran toward the teacher’s office.
The nearby children watched Bai An curiously. Feeling their gaze, Bai An lowered her head, feeling uneasy.
Before Bai An could act, a hand suddenly grabbed her. The grip was so strong that it felt like it could hold her entire body. Bai An looked up in the direction of the hand.
“You knew this would happen, didn’t you?” Bai An looked coldly at Lin Zhixia, a trace of sadness in her eyes, and questioned him, “Didn’t you?!”
Faced with Bai An’s accusation, Lin Zhixia felt helpless for the first time.
He knew that Bai An would be bullied, but he thought it was just harmless teasing among children. He hadn’t expected it to escalate like this.
“I don’t know,” Lin Zhixia’s voice was hoarse.
Bai An didn’t believe him. His parents had been the ones leading the search of her house, so to her, anyone who came that night could not be trusted—especially him.
She forcefully yanked her arm away from him, her eyes filled with distrust. She sarcastically said, “Do you believe your own words? Just now, that person called my family capitalists and said we had a lot of nice things. Why did they say that?”
“You’re all thieves!”
Bai An turned her head and shouted loudly at the onlookers, “You’re all thieves!”
The people watching her looked at her like she was crazy, their eyes filled with indifference.
Lin Zhixia knew how cold the villagers could be. They would chat and laugh with you like long-lost relatives, but in the dark, who knew what they were really thinking?
“Let’s take care of your wound first,” Lin Zhixia ignored Bai An’s struggles and grabbed her wrist, trying to pull her away.
Just then, Big Zhuang, who had finally found the teacher, pointed to Bai An and frantically said, “Teacher, Bai An is over there!”
As soon as Big Zhuang finished pointing, he saw Lin Zhixia holding Bai An’s hand.
“Don’t you dare bully Bai An!” A thunderous voice erupted from Big Zhuang.
Lin Zhixia, who was frustrated about how to convince Bai An to go take care of her injury, looked at the direction of the voice, confused.
Before he could make sense of it, something heavy, weighing around seventy or eighty kilograms, crashed into his stomach.
Bai An didn’t have time to stop it, and she saw Big Zhuang bend over and charge straight at Lin Zhixia’s stomach. Lin Zhixia was knocked flying into the grass a short distance away, and Big Zhuang seemed like he was about to charge again.
Bai An quickly pushed her hands against Big Zhuang’s head and said, “It wasn’t him.”
Hearing Bai An’s voice from above him, Big Zhuang quickly eased up his strength, lifting his head in confusion to look at the anxious Bai An and asked, “What did you say?”
“Not him?” Big Zhuang angrily pointed at Lin Zhixia and shouted, “Then why was he holding your hand just now?”
The teacher, startled by Big Zhuang’s sudden action, didn’t know whether to go treat Bai An’s injury or help Lin Zhixia, who was still lying on the ground.
Lin Zhixia, who was lying on the ground, twisted his face in pain, clutching his stomach. He never expected such a small boy to have so much strength.
The teacher, seeing that Lin Zhixia managed to get up by himself, finally relaxed and said, “I’ll go take care of Bai An’s wound first. Bai An can go home early today.”
Big Zhuang eagerly raised his hand, saying, “I can escort Bai An home.”
“No need.” A cold, angry voice came from not far away.
Bai An turned in surprise and saw the familiar figure standing at the school gate. All the emotions she had been holding back exploded in that moment.
Bai An pouted, tears falling one by one, leaving streaks of water on her dusty face.
“Brother.” Bai An couldn’t stop crying, choking as she spoke to Lu Jin’an, “It hurts so much.”
The dried blood on Bai An’s forehead stabbed at Lu Jin’an’s eyes. He looked at her, his brows furrowing sharply, and a wave of heartache surged in his chest, rising to his throat, making it hard for him to say anything.
Lu Jin’an clearly saw Bai An’s tears falling faster, and his hand gradually clenched into a fist.
“Who did this?” Lu Jin’an spoke coldly, his tone even and emotionless, sending a chill down one’s spine.
Lu Jin’an bent down, picked up the bloodstained stone near Lin Zhixia’s feet, and clenched it tightly in his hand. “I’ll ask again—who did this?”
The atmosphere grew tense. The nearby children were already so scared by Lu Jin’an’s demeanor that they didn’t dare move, nervously looking at the teacher.
The teacher, also startled by Lu Jin’an’s presence, stammered, “It’s just a little childish fighting…”
“Childish fighting?” Lu Jin’an walked over casually, but his trembling hand and slightly hoarse voice betrayed his unstable emotions.
“Teacher, since it’s just childish fighting, what should I do next?” Lu Jin’an turned to look at her. “You don’t need to worry about it.”
“Brother…” Bai An looked at Lu Jin’an with grievance, struggling to catch her breath as she cried and said in fits and starts, “It was Goudan… Goudan even said our family are capitalists… it was him who threw this stone at my head.”
“Which one is Goudan?”
Bai An pointed to Lin Zhixia. Lin Zhixia frowned when he saw the finger pointing at him. At that moment, Bai An’s finger shifted, pointing to the Goudan behind Lin Zhixia.
Goudan, seeing the finger now pointing at him, lifted his chin and stubbornly argued, “It wasn’t me, she tripped on her own.”
Lu Jin’an cast a dark look at Goudan, his every word testing his patience.
“Bang.”
Goudan suddenly felt a gust of wind near his ear and looked at Lu Jin’an in fear. The stone in Lu Jin’an’s hand was gone, and Goudan knew clearly that the stone had just grazed his ear—had it been any closer, it would have hit his head.
No one dared to speak at the scene. Bai An was also startled by Lu Jin’an’s action. The force of it made it feel like the stone could have killed someone.
Lin Zhixia, however, was different. Looking at Goudan, who was sitting on the ground in fear, he curled his lips into a faint smile. Unfortunately, the stone hadn’t hit the boy’s head.
“Bai An, go home and take care of your injury.” The teacher, having never seen such a situation before, noticed Lu Jin’an’s gaze still on Goudan and quickly spoke up, afraid Lu Jin’an might do something else.
