Chapter 57 Helping Family, Not Justice
Someone shouted, “There’s trouble!”
The villagers immediately dispersed in an orderly manner, moving aside as a group of young people rushed through the gap in the crowd, allowing Bai An and the others to clearly see the situation inside.
“Mom!” Seeing Wan Qing’s condition, tears streamed down Bai An’s face.
Cui Ju and the burly man exchanged incredulous glances.
Taking advantage of this moment, Bai An quickly broke free from their grip and ran toward the center of the square.
“Bai An!” Cui Ju called out anxiously.
As soon as Bai An entered, she saw Lu Jin’an struggling with four or five young men. He was holding his ground, but the number of young men was increasing, and Lu Jin’an was starting to feel overwhelmed.
“Hurry and untie Auntie!” Cui Ju shouted anxiously at Bai An.
Bai An turned her head and saw that Cui Ju and the burly man had come to help. She felt touched and nodded in response.
“Brother Bai An, I’m here to help!” The burly man shouted as he lifted a large stone and smashed it down on the back of the person holding Lu Jin’an. The man cried out in pain and staggered away.
The burly man picked up the fallen stick and nervously stood behind Lu Jin’an, standing back to back with him, grinning and saying, “Why do I feel like we’re going to lose?”
“Don’t say such discouraging things.” Lu Jin’an said before charging forward.
Seeing that there was no one behind him, the burly man blinked nervously and grabbed a weapon to rush in.
Bai An looked anxiously at the situation nearby, quickly working to untie Wan Qing’s ropes.
“Mom, are you okay?” Bai An asked worriedly, looking at Wan Qing.
Wan Qing shook her head and said, “Quickly tell your brother to stop. There are too many people, and he might not be able to handle it.”
Bai An turned around and saw that there were indeed many opponents. With just the burly man and Lu Jin’an, they had no chance of winning. Bai An turned to Cui Ju and said, “You help support my mom. I’m going to help my brother.”
As she spoke, Bai An scanned her surroundings, picked up a stick from the ground, and rushed over.
She was so fast that Wan Qing didn’t have time to stop her.
Bai An swung her stick at the back of one person’s head. Lu Jin’an noticed the sound behind him, turned to see Bai An attacking, and his expression momentarily showed confusion.
The burly man had just kicked someone away when he saw Bai An’s fierce move and shouted in surprise, “Bai An is so fierce!”
Although there were many opponents, under the combined efforts of Bai An and the other two, they surprisingly gained the upper hand.
Cui Ju had already helped Wan Qing to a nearby concealed spot, even thoughtfully using her clothes to shield Wan Qing’s head. When she saw Bai An’s father approaching, she immediately called out anxiously, “Bai An’s dad, over here!”
Originally, Lu Demin wanted to help Bai An and the others, but on the way, he heard someone calling his name. Turning around, he saw Wan Qing and Cui Ju hiding to the side, with Wan Qing covering her head with something. He immediately ran toward them, worried.
“Go help Bai An and the others first.”
Wan Qing shouted anxiously as Lu Demin approached.
Both Lu Demin and Wan Qing were worried, but fortunately, the village chief arrived at that moment.
Looking at the chaotic scene, he shouted sternly, “Stop!”
The young people stopped when they heard the village chief’s voice, but their eyes continued to glare angrily at Bai An and the others.
Bai An scoffed, dropped her stick, and ran toward Wan Qing. Lu Jin’an spat out blood as he looked at the distorted and grotesque figures lying on the ground, a mocking smile creeping onto his lips.
“Mom, are you okay?” Bai An circled around Wan Qing, carefully checking her over.
Wan Qing shook her head, her expression suddenly serious as she grabbed Bai An’s hand and scolded, “It was so dangerous! You just ran over there by yourself. What if you got hurt?”
The burly man laughed beside them, “Aunt Bai An, you should have seen how Bai An handled three opponents at once.”
“Handled three opponents at once?” At that moment, the burly man’s mother appeared from somewhere, tugging on his ear as she pulled him away, “How can you still say that? I didn’t see you for just a moment, and you went running off to that place.”
The burly man’s mother smiled apologetically at Wan Qing and said, “We’ll be leaving now.”
Wan Qing thanked the burly man.
Ignoring the grip on his ear, the burly man turned and said it was nothing.
Lu Demin remained silent as he approached the village chief, questioning what was going on.
The village chief turned to those young people and asked.
The young people disdainfully replied, “That woman used to be an actress, she’s just a slut. We need to eliminate people like her. Who knows, maybe they’re all capitalists; we could take them all down at once.”
Lu Demin grew angrier with each word, stepping forward to confront them, but the village chief quickly blocked his path, saying, “Calm down, calm down. I’ll talk to them in a moment.”
Lu Demin adjusted his glasses, his face flushed with anger, and pointed at those people, saying, “Village chief, you’d better make them give our family a good explanation, or I won’t let this go.”
The village chief wiped the sweat from his forehead and called to Bai An behind Lu Demin, “Come over and help hold your dad back.”
“What should I hold him back from?” Bai An shouted at the still arrogant young people, “I just want to tear their mouths apart right now.”
Hearing Bai An say this, Wan Qing quickly covered her mouth, saying, “You can’t talk like that.”
Seeing that Bai An’s family had Wan Qing with them, the village chief said to her, “I’m really sorry. Why don’t you try to persuade them to go home first, and then I’ll talk to you about this later.”
Seeing the village chief say this, Lu Jin’an coldly stepped in front of Wan Qing, and Bai An jumped out from the side.
“You only act like this because you think my mom is easy to deal with,” Bai An shouted, “I need to hear how they explain this. If they’re looking for trouble on purpose, they better watch out. I won’t let them off the hook.”
Caught between the two groups, the village chief was unsure of what to do and seemed to think of something.
Seeing that neither side was willing to back down, tensions rose again, and it looked like a fight might break out.
The village chief hurriedly told Bai An’s family, “You should go back for now. Let’s just drop this matter; we can’t say who is right or wrong.”
“How can we just drop it? You still say you don’t know who is right or wrong.” Bai An stepped forward, wanting to discuss this properly, but Lu Jin’an grabbed her wrist, shaking his head when she looked at him.
Bai An felt it was very unfair at that moment. “Last time, so many of them stole things, and it was just brushed aside. Now they’re bullying my mom, and that should just be overlooked too?”
Wan Qing sighed. Bai An was still young and didn’t understand the current situation. It was clear that the village chief was favoring family over justice. If things continued like this, there would be nothing good to say in the end.
