Jing Xi had just returned home from the Zhou family’s area when she saw Zhang Rui standing at the gate of the courtyard, waving her over urgently.
Seeing the anxious expression on Zhang Rui’s face, Jing Xi quickly walked over.
Jing Xi asked, “What’s wrong, Auntie?”
Zhang Rui blurted out, “Have you heard? Zhou Shu got beaten up pretty badly! I just saw his whole family, along with the village chief and the doctor from the clinic, leaving the village together. It looks serious!”
Jing Xi pressed her lips together. Seeing that she wasn’t surprised, Zhang Rui guessed that she already knew about it.
Jing Xi nodded. “I know about it. I just saw it happen.”
Zhang Rui quickly warned her, “Oh dear, you should stay far away from his family for now! If they can’t find the culprit, they might blame it on you! It’s better to avoid trouble when you can.”
But Jing Xi shook her head. “Auntie, I am the one who did it. I’m the one who beat up Zhou Shu.”
The moment she said that, Zhang Rui’s eyes widened to the size of glass marbles!
Her hands immediately grabbed Jing Xi’s shoulders.
“Child! Don’t scare me like that! What happened? Are you serious? Tell me exactly what happened!”
Jing Xi gave her a firm look and then explained, “Yes, I did it. I had gone to visit my aunt’s grave. I was lost in thought and didn’t notice him following me down the mountain. When I reached the forest at the base, he suddenly attacked me from behind, threw me to the ground, and tried to assault me. I got angry and kicked him in his manhood. He passed out on the spot.”
Zhang Rui was utterly speechless.
Kicking a man’s vital area like that—this was a huge deal.
If things went badly, he might never have children again.
“Xiao Jing, how hard did you kick him?” Zhang Rui asked hesitantly.
Jing Xi nodded seriously. “I used full force. I kicked him a lot. I was sweating from all the effort.”
Zhang Rui: “……”
Oh no.
Zhang Rui’s face showed pure panic.
She immediately pulled Jing Xi into her house and shut the courtyard gate. “No, no, I need to think of a plan!”
Jing Xi watched as Zhang Rui paced back and forth in the yard, looking extremely anxious.
She quickly reassured her, “Auntie, it’s fine. I’m not afraid. He attacked me first! Worst case, I’ll pay some compensation or serve some jail time. But I had to fight back!”
Zhang Rui waved her hands frantically. “That’s not the problem! Of course, you were defending yourself, and that’s completely justified! But the Zhou family is petty—they won’t let this go! Listen, pack your things and leave the village for a while!”
Before Jing Xi could respond, Zhang Rui added, “You can stay at my cousin’s house!”
She was already rushing to help Jing Xi pack.
Jing Xi was touched by her concern but also regretted telling her the truth.
But before they could take another step, they opened the door and saw Jin Fu and a technician named Chen standing at the entrance.
Their expressions were… interesting.
Jing Xi had a sinking feeling that they had overheard everything.
Jin Fu spoke first. “We couldn’t find you, so we guessed you might be here.”
Jing Xi asked, “You were looking for me?”
Jin Fu nodded. “Yes. Can we talk in private for a moment?”
Before Jing Xi could answer, Zhang Rui hesitated and said, “Uh, experts… Xiao Jing has some urgent matters and might have to leave for a while. Is there anything I can help you with instead?”
Jin Fu replied, “I’m afraid that won’t work.”
Jing Xi reassured Zhang Rui, “Auntie, really, it’s fine. I’m not going anywhere! Don’t worry.”
Zhang Rui knew she couldn’t convince Jing Xi otherwise. The girl was as stubborn as a mule.
But at this point, leaving was the best option. If worst came to worst, she would call Liu Jianchang back, and they could take Jing Xi to her cousin’s house together.
Jin Fu looked at both women’s tense expressions and let out a chuckle.
Both of them turned to stare at him.
Jin Fu calmly said, “I know what happened. That’s why I’m here—to help solve the problem. How about we find a more private place to talk?”
Zhang Rui was startled. Right!
Jing Xi had the Long family backing her!
Zhang Rui immediately invited them inside, and Jin Fu and Chen took Jing Xi to a more private room for the discussion.
Chen spoke first. “Let me introduce myself. My name is Chen Cheng. I was up in the mountains earlier today, and on my way down, I passed through the forest. I saw you… and that guy. So, I know what happened.”
Jing Xi remained silent.
“It was quite the coincidence—I accidentally became a witness. I just happened to see a man attempting to assault a female comrade.”
Upon hearing this, Jing Xi immediately looked up.
“You mean—!”
Chen Cheng smiled. “I mean exactly what I just said. I saw a man attempting to assault a female comrade. She struggled desperately and accidentally broke free from his grasp. The man, having lost his footing, tumbled down the slope. A falling rock happened to hit him right in the crotch and on the head, knocking him unconscious.”
Jing Xi: “…”
She had no idea what to say.
Why?
Why did the Long family always insist on helping her?
She hadn’t even saved any of their lives!
They were merely passing acquaintances—why did they keep helping her time and time again?
“I really don’t understand. Why are you helping me? Even if you didn’t, I could simply deny everything myself.”
Jin Fu glanced at her youthful face, her large and lively eyes.
“If you don’t want us to help, that’s fine. You can handle it yourself. We’ll pretend we saw nothing—after all, there were no other witnesses.”
Jing Xi hesitated for a moment, conflicted.
But—
“You don’t need to help me. I don’t want to owe too many favors. Let me handle this myself.”
On the way back, Jin Fu and Chen Cheng talked.
“Brother Jin, why do you think she doesn’t want our help?”
Jin Fu thought for a moment. “She doesn’t want to owe us.”
“But if we don’t help, won’t she end up in even more trouble? The Zhou family will definitely make things difficult for her.”
Jin Fu: “Did you forget what Fourth Master said? She’s not a simple person. We just need to remember why we’re here. If she doesn’t need our help, we won’t interfere. If she truly can’t handle it, then we’ll step in.”
“…Fine.”
The next day, at the Long family estate.
Long Yue Zhi lay on a reclining chair in the courtyard.
His eyes were closed, a carefree smile resting on his face.
Yu Er animatedly reported:
“She kicked that guy in the crotch—more than once! Jin Fu said she stomped on him dozens of times, each kick harder than the last.”
“After that, she was afraid he wasn’t unconscious yet, so she gave him a few extra kicks on the shoulder. The pain knocked him out cold. And she didn’t forget to tie him up afterward—completely ruthless.”
“Even after knocking him out, she wasn’t scared. She just sat there, resting and thinking about her next move. Later, she dragged the guy to a more conspicuous location.”
“She cleaned up when she got home, then went to the Zhou family’s doorstep to watch the drama unfold. Jin Fu offered to help her settle the matter, but she refused.”
Yu Er paused for a moment before chuckling. “Fourth Master, this girl is truly reckless. You were absolutely right about her. Now, even Xiao Jie, Liang Chen, and even Jin Fu and Chen Cheng all say she’s fearless—with nerves of steel!”
Long Yue Zhi let out a soft hum of acknowledgment, his expression relaxed. He seemed quite pleased.
“If she says to leave it alone, then we’ll leave it alone. I want to see what she’ll do next.”
