As soon as Kong Zhigang saw two young men walk in, both tall, well-dressed, and imposing, he hesitated.
“Who are you? Who let you in? Where are the security guards?” he demanded.
Just then, two security guards rushed in, panting.
“You two—leave immediately! Don’t disrupt school order!” one of them barked.
But before they could react further, they saw Liu Yan sitting on the ground, bleeding, while holding onto Liu Chun.
Because Jing Xi often visited the sisters, she had become familiar with the security guards at the entrance. Seeing Liu Yan and Liu Chun injured and bleeding, one of the guards turned to Kong Zhigang and asked directly,
“Director Kong, what happened here?”
Kong Zhigang, clearly frustrated, snapped, “Everyone, get out! Now!”
Xiao Jie ignored him. Meanwhile, Liang Chen, upon seeing blood trickling from Liu Chun’s ear, turned red with anger. He immediately helped Liu Yan up and carried Liu Chun in his arms. Looking at Xiao Jie and Jing Xi, he said,
“We’re going to the hospital first.”
Without another word, they left.
Xiao Jie followed closely behind.
Jing Xi glanced at Kong Zhigang, who seemed momentarily stunned. Then, she turned to Kong Yu and the school doctor, who had just arrived, and shot them a warning look.
After the three left with Liu Chun and Liu Yan, Kong Zhigang finally turned to the security guards.
“What are you looking at? Get back to work!” he barked.
As the two security guards walked away, one of them muttered, “Who punishes students like this? They’re bleeding! If the parents find out, this could turn into a huge scandal.”
The other security guard scoffed. “Everyone says Kong Yu is actually Kong Zhigang’s illegitimate son. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised. What kind of uncle treats his nephew like that? And have you ever seen Kong Yu’s mother? Every time she comes to school, she’s all dressed up like a peacock. I tell you, sooner or later, Kong Zhigang is going to lose his position because of this mess.”
“Let’s see how he handles it. Beating students like that—ridiculous.”
Inside the hospital room, only Jing Xi, Liu Yan, and Liu Chun remained.
The doctors had already examined both sisters, cleaned their wounds, and bandaged them.
But Liu Yan was still anxious. “I think I should go back to school. What if Kong Zhigang does something while I’m not there?”
Jing Xi pressed her down gently. “What are you afraid of? That he’ll punish you and Liu Chun? Or that he’ll contact your uncle and aunt to tell them he beat you two like this?”
Liu Yan shook her head, her face still filled with fear. “Every student has faced corporal punishment at some point, but Kong Zhigang went too far. What worries me is that he might tamper with my records or do something to my academic file. What if he actually puts a disciplinary action on my record?”
She had spent years preparing for university.
Would it all be ruined because of Kong Yu?
Jing Xi didn’t know Kong Zhigang well, but she still tried to comfort Liu Yan. “Don’t panic yet. Honestly, I think he should be more worried than you. What he did was an abuse of power, and there were so many witnesses.”
Liu Yan didn’t say anything, but Jing Xi knew she was struggling inside.
“Jie… I’m sorry. I was too impulsive.”
Liu Chun was practically drowning in guilt.
Liu Yan looked at her younger sister’s pitiful expression and sighed. “I don’t blame you. Just focus on recovering for now. When Mom and Dad get here, we’ll figure out what to do next.”
“Sis, it’s all my fault. Just scold me!”
Liu Yan gently patted Liu Chun’s head. “It’s okay. I really don’t blame you. Worst case, you just retake the exam next year. What’s there to be afraid of? After surviving a disaster, there’s always good fortune ahead!”
Liu Chun clutched Liu Yan’s hand tightly.
She had a perforated eardrum and possibly a mild concussion. Right now, she had to stay lying down.
Sitting up made her dizzy.
Liu Yan only had surface injuries, which just needed some disinfecting and bandaging.
Jing Xi quietly slipped out of the hospital room, giving the sisters some time to rest and talk.
Seeing her come out, Liang Chen said, “Xiao Jie has gone to Fucha Village.”
Jing Xi nodded. Xiao Jie had gone to pick up Liu Jianchang.
But she was worried about how the school would handle things.
Right now, the most important thing was ensuring Liu Yan’s college entrance exams weren’t affected.
Seeing Jing Xi remain silent, Liang Chen glanced into the hospital room before sitting down beside her. “Are you worried about Liu Yan’s exams?”
Jing Xi nodded. “That Kong Zhigang… what if he has connections? Liu Chun will be fine—she can always transfer to another high school. But Liu Yan has worked so hard, and this is such a critical time. Just because of that idiot Kong Yu, everything’s turned into a mess. If this delays her studies…”
Noticing her distress, Liang Chen reassured her, “Don’t stress. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. This is entirely Kong Zhigang’s fault. He has already crossed the line from disciplining students to outright abuse. A person like him doesn’t deserve to be a teacher.”
There was a coldness in Liang Chen’s tone that made Jing Xi shiver slightly.
But since he was speaking like this, she knew they would help.
Jing Xi looked at Liang Chen and cautiously asked, “Can you help with this? At the very least, we can’t let Liu Yan’s efforts go to waste.”
Liang Chen chuckled. “If Xiao Jie and I weren’t planning to help, we wouldn’t be here in the first place.”
Jing Xi immediately felt a weight lift off her shoulders.
About half an hour later, Xiao Jie arrived with Liu Jianchang.
Zhang Rui wasn’t back yet, so Liu Jianchang had come alone.
Still wearing his work clothes, Liu Jianchang’s expression darkened the moment he heard that his two well-behaved daughters had been bullied at school. He immediately grabbed a hoe, ready to storm over and confront Kong Zhigang.
Xiao Jie stopped him and convinced him to come to the hospital first.
Covered in sweat from rushing over, Liu Jianchang didn’t even greet Jing Xi—he went straight into the hospital room.
The moment the two girls saw their father, they instantly felt they had someone to rely on.
Liu Jianchang pulled both of them into his arms, his heart aching for them.
Jing Xi could even sense the murderous intent in his eyes—
It was the kind of rage that screamed he wanted to hack Kong Zhigang into pieces.
And not just once—he looked like he wanted to slice him into exactly 187 parts, each perfectly cut.
She was certain that Liu Jianchang had the skill to do it, too.
She had seen him butcher pigs before, and his knife work—along with his presence—was undeniable.
After comforting the two girls until they stopped crying, Liu Jianchang finally stepped out of the hospital room.
“All three of you—thank you so much! I’ll go pay for the girls’ medical expenses first!”
Liang Chen stopped him. “Uncle, I already covered it. No rush to pay me back. Let’s discuss the school situation first.”
Hearing the word “school,” Liu Jianchang’s face immediately darkened. “I’m going to find that Kong Zhigang and ask him what right he had to hit my daughters! And that Kong Yu—Yan’er told me before that he kept harassing female students. I told her to stay away from him and focus on her studies, but even though we didn’t provoke him, he still came looking for trouble!”
“Uncle, Auntie isn’t back yet. Let’s wait for her, then discuss our next move. Many students must have seen Kong Zhigang hitting them. If we go to the school, we have the moral high ground.”
Liu Jianchang nodded, but his face was still stormy.
Jing Xi continued, “The doctor said Liu Chun might have a mild concussion. She needs to rest for a while.”
Liu Jianchang nodded again, then stood up. “Xiaojing, stay here and watch over them for me. I’m going out to buy some things.”
Jing Xi didn’t think much of it.
As soon as Liu Jianchang left, Xiao Jie followed him.
“Hmm? Xiao Jie, are you going to buy something too?”
Liang Chen shook his head. “I don’t think he’s going shopping. He’s worried Liu Jianchang is heading straight to the school to find Kong Zhigang. Didn’t you see how tightly he was clenching his fists when he left?”
