After resting for a while, Lin Yutang slipped into her space to decide what to have for lunch.
Sigh, I really wish I could bring my sister in with me. She had tried holding Lin Zhi’s hand before, but only she herself could enter the space. It seemed this space was exclusively for her use.
Lin Yutang felt a bit regretful. She truly wanted Lin Zhi to experience modern life with her—after all, it was an entire department store!
Lin Zhi, however, didn’t mind. As long as she could live peacefully with her sister, she was content with anything.
Lin Yutang: Sis, you’re such a sister-con!
Lin Yutang entered the department store, pushed a shopping cart, and strolled around slowly to see what daily necessities she could bring along. There was no hurry to leave today.
First, she went to the lingerie section and picked out two sets of underwear for each of them. As for the size, well, it was pretty much the smallest available. The Lin sisters had suffered from malnutrition and were as thin as little bean sprouts.
Next, she headed to the skincare area and chose a set of products suitable for their age—something simple to hydrate and brighten their skin.
Noticing the dull cloth shoes on her feet and remembering they had to go to town every day, she went to the women’s shoe section and picked out a pair of simple dark gray sneakers. Since everyone in this era wore long skirts, they wouldn’t be too noticeable.
She also selected a similar pair, one size larger, for Lin Zhi. If they didn’t fit, she could always come back and exchange them later.
Toilet paper, shampoo, body wash—she grabbed them all. She also picked out a wooden bathtub, just big enough for one person to sit in. Good heavens, how uncomfortable it was last night when I had to wipe myself down with just a bit of water!
For lunch, she decided to keep it simple: from the fried noodles and rice section, she scooped out a portion of shredded pork fried noodles and sausage fried rice.
From the braised food section, she chose some duck delicacies: duck head, clavicle, duck intestines, duck neck, and duck liver. Goodness, how I love duck dishes!
But in her previous life, duck delicacies were ridiculously expensive—just a small portion would cost forty or fifty! The servers would practically dump the entire plate into your bag, but Lin Yutang never indulged them. She insisted on exactly the amount she wanted—after all, money was hard to come by!
Now, however, she could take as much as she wanted. Zero-yuan shopping was absolutely exhilarating—she could laugh herself awake in her dreams, hahaha!
Lin Yutang happily wandered to the beverage section. Last time, Lin Zhi had tried sparkling water and found it acceptable, so today she brought her a bottle of sparkling water.
She picked out a bottle of coconut water for herself and grabbed a small fruit cake from the dessert section before flashing out of the space.
A massive pile of items, along with herself, appeared in the room, nearly filling half of it.
“Sis, let’s eat first. After we’re done, we can organize all this stuff,” Lin Yutang said, rubbing her hungry stomach and speaking in a coaxing tone.
“Alright, alright, whatever you say,” Lin Zhi replied affectionately, patting Lin Yutang’s head.
Lin Zhi chose the shredded pork fried noodles because she was curious—could noodles be stir-fried?
She picked up her chopsticks and took a bite. The noodles were glossy and oily, the shredded pork tender and flavorful, the bean sprouts crisp, and the greens refreshing. Every bite was fully coated in the savory sauce, making it irresistibly appetizing!
Lin Zhi couldn’t stop praising it. Lin Yutang opened the small drink for her, and Lin Zhi took a sip. The tingling sensation of the sparkling water made her shiver, but she couldn’t help taking a few more sips. What a fascinating sensation!
“Sis, try this! I used to love eating this, but it was too expensive to have often,” Lin Yutang said, happily munching on a duck head while wearing disposable gloves.
So, her little sister hadn’t had an easy life in that other place either. Lin Zhi felt a pang of sadness and nearly teared up looking at Lin Yutang.
Lin Yutang didn’t notice Lin Zhi’s unusual mood and directly stuffed a duck neck into Lin Zhi’s mouth. “Sis, try it! It’s seriously delicious!”
Lin Zhi was “forced” to nibble on the duck neck. The sweet, spicy, and savory flavors filled her mouth. The meat on the duck neck was dry but not tough, oily yet firm, and even the marrow inside the bone was fragrant!
This stuff was incredibly satisfying! Instantly, Lin forgot her earlier sadness about her sister’s past. With such delicious food right in front of her, everything else faded into insignificance!
Munching on duck delicacies, eating fried noodles, sipping on soda, and gossiping about village affairs with her closest sister—this was the life Lin Yutang had always dreamed of in her previous life, and it was also what Lin Zhi had always yearned for.
After eating, the two sisters burped contentedly and chatted idly. Even though they were already full, they both willingly had a small piece of cake.
As she ate, Lin Yutang suddenly giggled. Wasn’t this exactly what people online said: every girl has two stomachs—one for main courses and one for desserts!
