With a loud splash, another person jumped into the water to rescue people.
It was rush hour after work, and the men in the compound were riding their beloved 28-inch bicycles.
From a distance, they heard someone shouting that a person had fallen into the water, and the men pedaled furiously towards the pond.
Leading the pack was Dong Qihua, a close friend of Su Shuoci. The two had been through life and death together, and Su Shuoci had saved his life several times.
Seeing the wheelchair by the pond, Dong Qihua’s heart sank, and without a second thought, he jumped into the water.
Seeing Dong Qihua coming to his rescue, Su Shuoci tightly held onto Gu Jiaojiao, refusing to let go.
Although his wife had just pinched him, he was still very anxious. The more anxious he became, the more he sank into the water without resurfacing.
Dong Qihua initially wanted to carry Gu Jiaojiao up first, but his friend wouldn’t let go.
Fortunately, he was strong enough to lift both of them and swim towards the shore, where the men who had arrived later pulled Su Shuoci onto the bank.
The summer clothes were thin, and Su Shuoci held Gu Jiaojiao tightly, not letting anyone see her.
Dong Qihua, true to being Su Shuoci’s good friend, knew what was on his mind and called two men to help Su Shuoci directly onto the wheelchair.
Su Shuoci didn’t care about the others’ gazes. He said a word of thanks and, with one hand, maneuvered the wheelchair.
With the other arm around Gu Jiaojiao, he sped home like the wind.
He wanted to go back and give his wife mouth-to-mouth resuscitation; he didn’t want to do it in front of everyone.
Dong Qihua watched his friend leave without looking back and shook his head with a smile. Wasn’t he supposed to be immune to women?
Moreover, this Gu Jiaojiao was his neighbor. She used to be quiet and rarely went out, but later became hysterical and unreasonable…
How could she be worth his friend risking his life to save her?
The people who arrived later only knew that Su Shuoci was holding onto a young woman and wouldn’t let go. Those who didn’t know the details started to gossip.
“Well, well, who would have thought our crippled hero would still go and save a beauty?”
“Doesn’t he know he’s crippled? What heroism is he trying to show? Does his wife know?”
“If it weren’t for the eldest son of the Dong family, this cripple would have died in the pond himself. Hmph, trying to play the hero and save the beauty.”
“Get lost, that’s his wife. Don’t talk nonsense if you don’t know the facts. If I hear any more of your nonsense, I’ll beat you to death.”
Dong Qihua’s fierce tone made the gossiping people scatter with their tails between their legs.
But soon, everyone in the compound knew that the fake daughter of the Sheng family had risk her life for her adoptive mother.
And the crippled Su Shuoci would risk his life for his wife. That couple was each more ruthless than the last.
When Su Shuoci got home, he went straight into their room and gently laid Gu Jiaojiao on the bed.
Ignoring the “immortal” items on the bed, Su Shuoci pushed himself up and leaped onto the bed.
With trembling hands, he tore off Gu Jiaojiao’s clothes and immediately began performing chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
Gu Jiaojiao was so angry she wanted to hit the stupid man. She was just physically weak and unable to speak.
It wasn’t like she was in shock. Did the stupid man even know anything about medicine? He was rubbing and kissing her, taking advantage of her.
Originally still somewhat conscious, Gu Jiaojiao didn’t know if it was the man’s actions or his rough handling that caused her to completely pass out.
When Su’s mother and younger sister hurried back, they saw their daughter-in-law (sister-in-law) lying naked on the bed.
And Su Shuoci was on top of her, his hands still touching her body, and even more outrageously, he was mouth-to-mouth with her.
“Su Shuoci, you beast, in broad daylight…”
Su’s mother scolded, both angry and anxious.
After Su Shuoci reacted, he immediately wrapped Gu Jiaojiao tightly in a high-quality blanket.
“Brother, how could you abuse sister-in-law like this?” Su Qinchun thought her brother was not only crippled but also perverted.
The mother and daughter scolded and wailed.
Su’s father, hearing his wife and daughter’s complaints, also entered Su Shuoci’s room.
“Su Shuoci, you’ve disappointed us so much. Being disabled is not scary, but tormenting Jiaojiao like this is just too much.”
After saying this, he slapped Su Shuoci hard…
*
Sheng’s mother woke up on the way to the hospital. “You all go back and cook. If the men come back and there’s no hot meal, they’ll be unhappy.”
“Leader, can you go back alone?”
“It’s fine, you all go back.” Sheng’s mother had never fainted; she just didn’t know how to face Gu Jiaojiao.
Sheng’s third son happened to walk over and helped his mother.
“Mom, I heard Jiaojiao risked her life to save you?”
“Could she save me? She just made things worse. It was Su Shuoci who saved me.” Sheng’s mother stubbornly emphasized.
Sheng’s third son wanted to say, without Gu Jiaojiao, would Su Shuoci have jumped into the water?
Since his injury, he hadn’t even stepped out of the house.
Sheng Xinglian saw that her family didn’t scold Gu Jiaojiao, the jinx, and she felt very uncomfortable.
With tears streaming down her face, she said, “Mom, don’t you know how to swim? Did my sister drag you down by going into the water?”
Sheng’s mother: …
Sheng’s father originally wanted to ask his wife about Jiaojiao’s condition, but seeing his daughter in tears, he changed his tone.
“That’s right, Cuiping, don’t you usually know how to swim? What happened today? Did your back pain act up again?”
“It was the back pain that caused me to fall into the water. Ren Xiaofang is really something, hating me for decades because of you, and maliciously swapped our daughters. I won’t let her off.”
Sheng’s father rubbed his nose. At his age, still fighting over jealousy.
He didn’t feel proud at all; instead, he felt very embarrassed.
Especially since it caused their biological daughter to be separated for many years, Sheng’s father also felt ashamed for previously neglecting Jiaojiao.
At the critical moment, it was Jiaojiao who was thoughtful. After all, she was someone he personally taught. No matter how resentful or hateful, she would still risk her life to save her mother.
If Gu Jiaojiao knew what Sheng’s father thought of her, she would definitely tell him it was a beautiful misunderstanding.
Before she jumped into the water, she had no idea who had fallen in. She just acted on instinct.
If given the choice again, she definitely wouldn’t have the courage to jump in, because at that moment, she forgot that this body wasn’t her previous one.
In her past life, she was as healthy as an ox and an excellent swimmer.
Sheng’s father didn’t blame his wife for not mentioning Jiaojiao. “Cuiping, I’ve prepared hot water. Go take a bath. Even though it’s June, you still need to take care of your health.”
“Thank you.”
Sheng’s mother sincerely thanked him. This was the first time since their biological daughter returned that the family didn’t argue over Jiaojiao.
Human hearts aren’t made of stone. Sheng’s mother was also grateful that Gu Jiaojiao risked everything to save her.
But she was stubborn and hard-mouthed, unwilling to admit this fact.
Sheng Xinglian saw her mother go to take a bath and resentfully returned to her room, cursing Gu Jiaojiao.
The letter she wrote should have been received by the Gu family. In her past life, she didn’t return to her ancestral home until a year later.
By then, the Gu family was already extinct. In this lifetime, Sheng Xinglian originally intended to let the Gu family fend for themselves.
