Chapter 9 – From Now On, You Listen to Me
Su Dafu had never played the villain openly; he always let Wang Xiuqin be the one out front.
But that didn’t make him a good person.
In fact, in this household, the most selfish and ruthless person of them all—was Su Dafu!
Su Mujin looked at Su Dafu calmly and said,
“This is the path I chose. Whether I live well or suffer in the future, it’s my own business. Don’t worry—even if I die in the Song family, I won’t crawl back here crying.”
Su Dafu’s face darkened even more at those words.
Wang Xiuqin had told him Su Mujin had gone crazy, but he hadn’t believed her.
Now, it seemed Su Mujin really had lost her mind!
Not only had she schemed against Wang Xiuqin in front of so many people and taken so much money and ration coupons, now she was even talking back to him.
She wouldn’t respond to kindness or threats!
Wang Xiuqin didn’t want to let it go.
“We’re your parents! As long as we don’t agree, you can forget about getting married! You won’t be allowed to register at all!”
Su Mujin shrugged indifferently.
“If you won’t let me marry Song Qinian, then I’ll go for Song Liancheng. My reputation is already tied to the Song family—they’re both surnamed Song, what difference does it make who I marry?”
As she said that, she cast a meaningful glance at Su Moli, a half-smile on her lips.
Sure enough, Su Moli—who had just been watching like it was a play—panicked immediately.
Song Liancheng was hers!
Su Mujin couldn’t take him!
Old Master Song had only two grandsons: Song Qinian and Song Liancheng.
Originally, all hopes were pinned on Song Qinian. But after his leg was injured, he died not long after in the previous life.
After that, Song Liancheng became the old man’s sole hope, and all of his effort and expectations were poured into Song Liancheng.
Song Liancheng climbed the ranks rapidly, and by thirty, he was already in a high position.
And Su Mujin—because she had married Song Liancheng—became someone everyone envied.
She didn’t have to work, had a driver and a nanny, and didn’t even have to raise her own child.
Su Moli would never allow Su Mujin to live that kind of life again!
She wasn’t inferior to Su Mujin in any way—it should be her marrying Song Liancheng!
Su Moli’s expression shifted. She tugged gently on Wang Xiuqin’s arm.
“Mom, since Su Mujin has already made up her mind and is dead set on marrying over there—even if it means losing out—then let her go! This is the path she chose herself. If she suffers, she brought it on herself. You still have me and Tianci. It’s not like you won’t have anyone to care for you.”
In the previous life, Song Liancheng had given Su Mujin 200 yuan in bride price, bought the “three essentials” (a watch, bicycle, and sewing machine), plus new clothes and a pair of leather shoes worth 24 yuan.
This time, Su Moli was determined to get double that from him!
She had come from the future, holding knowledge of what was to come. She could help Song Liancheng soar to success—he owed her everything, including his devotion.
With Su Moli persuading gently on the side, and Su Mujin remaining firm and unshakable, Wang Xiuqin and Su Dafu were furious—but there was nothing they could do.
Still, Wang Xiuqin threw a fit.
“You’ve got so much backbone? Fine! Then don’t eat a single bite of food in this house!”
Su Mujin turned and walked into her room.
“Don’t worry. I won’t.”
Even if they begged her to eat, she wouldn’t.
Who knows if they’d poison the food in a desperate move?
She wasn’t going to let something happen right before everything was about to change.
Back in her room, Su Mujin shut the door.
She had plenty of food in her space. She specifically took out things with little to no smell, ate quietly, drank a bit, and then lay down fully clothed on the top bunk.
After about half an hour, Su Moli came in.
As soon as Su Moli entered the room, she slammed things around noisily, but Su Mujin acted as if she didn’t hear a thing.
After being held down in the water earlier today, Su Moli had likely been scared out of her wits. Now that they were alone in the room, she only dared to make noise, but didn’t have the guts to confront Su Mujin directly.
That night, Su Mujin didn’t sleep well.
She was worried the Su family might do something extreme, so she kept one ear open the entire time.
After enduring the long night, dawn finally came. Su Mujin could no longer stay in bed. She got up immediately, grabbed her things, and went to the public restroom to wash up.
Though each household had its own unit in this communal building, none had private bathrooms. To take care of personal needs, everyone had to use the shared public restroom.
Back then, every home also kept a chamber pot, and in the morning, someone would carry it out to dump it.
In the Su family, this job had always fallen to Su Mujin.
But today, after washing up, Su Mujin planned to leave straightaway.
Wang Xiuqin was already making breakfast. When she saw Su Mujin about to head out, she sneered,
“Rushing off like that? You’ll be crying later.”
Su Mujin smiled at her,
“However hard life may be with the Song family, it won’t be worse than the past few years I spent here.”
That one sentence hit Wang Xiuqin right where it hurt, and her face twisted with anger.
Su Mujin didn’t spare her another glance. She opened the door and left.
Just as she reached the railing, she saw someone downstairs pushing Song Qinian in a wheelchair.
Su Mujin waved at him and jogged toward the stairs.
Her steps were light, her face beaming with joy, as she ran toward her new life.
Very quickly, she reached the bottom of the stairs.
“Have you been waiting long?”
Song Qinian shook his head.
“No, I just got here too.”
“What a coincidence then!” Su Mujin laughed. “Let’s go!”
Inside the jeep, Su Mujin turned to look at Song Qinian.
“After we register, let’s take a photo together, okay?”
After all, it was their wedding. Even if they didn’t take formal wedding photos, they should at least have one as a keepsake.
Song Qinian had no objections. He agreed right away,
“Sure. Whatever you say.”
“Really? You’ll listen to me on everything?” Su Mujin’s eyes sparkled as she looked at him.
Being stared at like that, Song Qinian managed to keep a calm expression, but his ears were already turning red.
“Yes. I’ll do whatever you say.”
Her smile was dazzling, her gaze fiery—like the sun in the sky.
For a moment, Song Qinian couldn’t help but feel a flash of self-loathing.
Was he taking advantage of her vulnerability by marrying her like this?
Maybe… maybe he could have helped her escape the Su family in another way…
Just as he was lost in thought, Su Mujin’s voice interrupted him.
“Then it’s a deal! From now on, you have to listen to me in everything!” Her smile grew even brighter.
She really was amazing!
Not only had she solved the problem of marriage, she’d even found herself such a handsome husband!
And this handsome husband… was even willing to be henpecked!
Song Qinian stared straight at Su Mujin.
“You really don’t regret marrying me? My leg…”
“Why would I regret it?” Su Mujin shot back.
“You’re so good-looking—it’s a joy just to look at you. And you said you’d listen to me in everything. I’m thrilled!
As for your leg, didn’t the doctor say there’s still a chance it could be healed?”
Song Qinian pressed his lips together and chose to be honest.
“But the doctor also said… the chance is less than one percent.”
