Chapter 3
Ji Qingyu couldn’t sleep at all. She tossed and turned in bed, occasionally sitting up to look out the window. It was already the early hours of the morning. According to Assistant Zhang, they wouldn’t land in Jing City until 3 PM. By her calculations, she still had fourteen hours left on this plane.
Where exactly were they flying from to Jing City that it had already taken nearly twenty hours?
With a face full of despair, she continued to lie there, bored out of her mind, and decided to get up. All of “her” luggage from five years later was here. It wouldn’t be too much to see what kind of gear a rich woman had, right? She decided to do it, moving as quietly as possible, getting out of bed barefoot, and opening the suitcase.
There were three suitcases in total. One was completely black, and one was cherry blossom pink. They looked like a couple’s set. Coincidentally, she recognized the brand. She didn’t have the guts to peek into Feng Chengze’s suitcase, so she carefully opened the cherry blossom pink one. Besides a few sets of worryingly skimpy pajamas, there were also a few soft dresses, which she took out one by one and laid on the bed to admire. There were no tags, so perhaps these were the legendary custom-made clothes. In addition, there were various storage boxes of different sizes. Everything else was alright, mostly skincare products and masks, with three pairs of sunglasses. After the shock of the pajamas and the foreplay gadgets, she was quite calm looking at the underwear. Although she didn’t want to speculate too much, she could tell from the details that her relationship with Feng Chengze in five years was very, very, extremely harmonious. As for these clothes, she didn’t know if she bought them herself or if someone else wanted her to buy them. She really couldn’t believe she had such a wild side deep down.
So, should she blame the cold and indifferent Feng Chengze? She had heard from Feng Yu that Feng Chengze had been highly expected since childhood. Both his grandfather and father were very attentive to his education, so Feng Chengze was almost a textbook-perfect heir. Such a person wouldn’t have the time or energy for romance.
Feng Chengze went abroad to study at an early age, focusing solely on his studies. After finally graduating and returning to China, he took over the group from his father, working around the clock. Every move he made was closely watched, so he had very few opportunities to meet and develop a relationship with someone. If he were to find someone of equal social standing within his circle, it would be with the intention of marriage. However, his marriage was paramount to the Feng family and Yisheng. It couldn’t be taken lightly. Without a background check, without listing all the conditions and having them analyzed by various teams, the matter couldn’t even begin.
Moreover, he was still very young. When Ji Qingyu first met him, he was only twenty-eight years old, with no time or inclination for personal relationships, let alone a romance. So, she quietly asked Feng Yu, “Does that mean your twenty-eight-year-old brother is still… um?”
With a serious expression, Feng Yu neither nodded nor shook his head. It seemed even he, as the younger brother, didn’t know if his elder brother was still… um.
Therefore, for someone as precise as a machine, Ji Qingyu felt that even speculating about his wild side was like reaching for the moon.
“…Forget it.”
Ji Qingyu calmly put away the delicate lingerie as thin as a cicada’s wings into the storage bag. The cherry blossom pink suitcase contained daily necessities. Soon, she set her sights on the gray suitcase with vintage floral patterns. She let out a gasp of amazement. Besides the exquisite dress with a fishtail hem casually folded, there were also two pairs of high heels. But the highlight was the jewelry box. The moment she pressed it open, the sparkle almost blinded her eyes—it was a set of pink diamond jewelry.
It was so beautiful that it was hard to look away. This set of pink diamonds wasn’t even locked in a safe; it was casually thrown into the jewelry box.
Ji Qingyu clutched her chest. Was her life five years later really this extravagant? When Feng Yu hinted at proposing, she hadn’t dared to dream this big.
She glanced at the tightly closed door.
Feng Chengze was probably sitting outside, working. Although the Ji Qingyu from five years later was still her, she didn’t necessarily understand this version of herself. Just like how her twenty-two-year-old self would be deeply puzzled by the pretentious posts she made on social media at seventeen: Was that really me?
So, how did she end up marrying Feng Chengze?
Was there really no trickery involved?
Did she really go to Thailand to cast a love spell?
Ji Qingyu frowned in thought, then relaxed. No, if there was any trickery, with Feng Chengze’s capabilities, he wasn’t foolish or blind. If he could still be with her and achieve marital harmony, it could only mean he accepted it willingly.
She was now a bit interested in these five years. Even if she had a wild side, she believed she had certain boundaries. Who was Feng Chengze? He was Feng Yu’s brother. Even if she were madly in love with money and determined to marry into a wealthy family, she wouldn’t target Feng Chengze. That would be like playing in hard mode!
Similarly…
While handling business outside, Feng Chengze also had this suspicion flash through his mind. He must have lost his mind to be with his brother’s woman unless there was an unavoidable reason. So, he couldn’t focus on the documents anymore. He looked up at Assistant Zhang, who was dozing off and cleared his throat.
Assistant Zhang woke up groggily and immediately sat up straight. “Mr. Feng.”
“Ah Yu, he…” Feng Chengze stopped there. He only said three words, but a smart assistant would understand his thoughts and continue the conversation.
Feng Chengze felt very conflicted. He resisted that suspicion. For example, had something happened to his brother Feng Yu?
Thinking of this, he clenched the pen in his hand, his knuckles turning white.
Assistant Zhang felt even more conflicted. He had only heard bits and pieces about the Feng brothers’ affairs. After all, knowing too much about Mr. Feng’s family matters wouldn’t benefit his career. But even with limited knowledge, it was a fact that the brothers’ relationship had become strained over a woman.
Feng Yu didn’t show up at Feng Chengze’s wedding. Some said it was to avoid suspicion, while others said Feng Yu was so angry he ended up in the hospital and couldn’t come.
Assistant Zhang didn’t know what Feng Chengze wanted to say, so he waited quietly.
Ten seconds passed.
A minute passed.
He suddenly understood, seeing Mr. Feng’s hesitant expression. He tentatively said, “The group’s celebration is coming up. Vice President Feng should be returning to the country.”
Feng Chengze’s heart settled. He fell into deep thought while Assistant Zhang continued to wait for his instructions.
“You should rest now.” Staying up late, Feng Chengze’s voice was a bit hoarse. He rubbed his temples. “Thank you for your hard work.”
Assistant Zhang was puzzled. He couldn’t figure out why Mr. Feng suddenly brought up Feng Yu.
Looking out the window, it was pitch black. It was early morning, and perhaps people felt more melancholic in the dead of night.
Feng Chengze also didn’t want to believe he would compete with his brother for a woman. There was no doubt that Ji Qingyu was very beautiful, with her delicate and gentle features, red lips, white teeth, and sparkling eyes. When he first met her, she wore a simple white dress, attracting attention while standing there effortlessly. Five years later, she had shed some of her innocence and gained a touch of allure. From a man’s perspective, he could understand why his brother wanted to propose and marry her after knowing her for only six months. But appreciating her beauty didn’t mean he would shamelessly get involved with someone who almost became his sister-in-law.
Yet the facts left no room for doubt.
Because he had indeed married her, and they had a daughter.
Five years later, his phone’s lock screen was a photo of her and their daughter. Not only that but when he opened WeChat, his profile picture was also theirs. He lowered his eyes quietly, hesitating several times before finally opening the chat labeled “Wife.” He didn’t scroll up, just glanced at a few messages, and his breathing became heavier.
Describing the conversation between him and another woman as “unsightly” felt inappropriate and unwise, but he couldn’t think of a better word at the moment—
Wife: “You’re so annoying! It hurts!”
Me: “Where?”
Wife: “The chest patch hurts so much.”
Wife: “Let’s die together.jpg”
Me: “How about skipping the banquet?”
Wife: “I brought my dress, shoes, and jewelry all the way here. Not wearing them would be a waste!”
Me: “How about some medicine?”
Wife: “Go to hell.”
Feng Chengze immediately closed the chat.
If he looked at it for another second, he felt like he might crush his phone.
He held his breath, tossed the phone onto the seat beside him, grabbed the stem of his glass, and downed half a glass of champagne.
…
After admiring the jewelry, Ji Qingyu lay on the bed, scrolling through her phone. The phone was really fun, and she casually browsed through WeChat.
Two people were pinned at the top— [Dad Boss] [Yuan Bao]
Dad Boss? Overbearing Boss??
Given the obvious profile picture, she thought she knew who [Dad Boss] was. However, she wasn’t ready to pry into their marital privacy yet. Although it was her phone and Feng Chengze was now her husband, it still felt a bit strange.
Yuan Bao?
That must be the daughter she had with Feng Chengze five years later. She was quite interested!
It looked like the child was still in kindergarten and already had her own WeChat. She was truly a daddy’s little treasure.
It shouldn’t hurt to take a look, right?
With excitement, she opened the chat with “Yuan Bao.” The child couldn’t read yet, so it was all voice messages. She played one, and a clear child’s voice reached her ears: “Mommy, I won’t forgive you and Daddy unless you bring me gifts. A hundred, a thousand, then maybe.”
Ji Qingyu couldn’t help but laugh as she listened. It was a strange feeling. Although she knew it was her child, she hadn’t gone through the stages of pregnancy, childbirth, and raising the child. She just found the kid amusing.
Five years later, she replied to the voice message, possibly just waking up, her voice a bit lazy: “Don’t worry, I definitely brought you gifts. Mommy misses you very, very much, loves you, hugs you, kisses you.”
Hmm, it’s a bit cheesy.
Ji Qingyu felt goosebumps rise on her arms. She closed the chat. Hesitating, she opened the photo album, reverently admiring the life of a wealthy woman. Her fingers flipped through the photos quickly, suddenly stopping on one.
In the photo.
A man sat on the sofa with a laptop on his lap, seemingly just out of the shower. His hair was damp and fresh, and silver-framed glasses perched on his high nose bridge.
Of course, that wasn’t the main point. He was only wearing a towel, exposing his muscular chest, with a satisfied look on his face as if he had just had a hearty meal. The scene was quite suggestive.
Ji Qingyu almost threw the phone away—
Ahhh!
My eyes!!
