Chapter 58
Ji Qingyu didn’t understand what Feng Chengze meant by his words, but that didn’t stop her from guessing. She knew that Feng Chengze had not only visited the driver but also gone to Feng Yu’s ward. They must have had a conversation that led him to say, “I want both the process and the result.”
If it were about something else, she would have asked him what was wrong, letting him give whatever answer he was willing to provide. But she didn’t want to be vague about this matter. After a moment of silence, she asked, “What process do you want, and what result?”
Feng Chengze cupped her face, his thumb caressing her delicate skin, his eyes gradually deepening, “You know, from the beginning, I was never interested in what happened five years ago.”
“Yes, I know.”
In Ji Qingyu’s eyes, Feng Chengze was a person without curiosity. He had people investigate solely because he wanted to understand his future self better.
“But today, I really want to know one thing,” he said, his hand pausing, looking directly at her as if trying to see into her heart, “Why did you marry me?”
It was unfortunate, really. If he wanted, he could uncover many things from the past five years, even with his other self firmly blocking him. It wouldn’t be a big problem for him. But this one thing, he couldn’t explore.
Ji Qingyu was taken aback, “What?”
Feng Chengze also felt something was wrong with him today. Maybe he had hit his head, but current medical methods couldn’t detect it. Otherwise, how could he explain such foolish behavior? She didn’t know the answer to this question either.
“What do you think?” After a moment of silence, Ji Qingyu asked softly.
Feng Chengze stared at her, “Yuan Bao seems to be an accident.”
They both knew that Yuan Bao was indeed an accident. She came too quickly. They had only been together for two months when she appeared. They got their marriage certificate in January, meaning they married three or four months into her pregnancy.
“I see.” Ji Qingyu fell into a brief contemplation. She no longer thought about the events of five years ago, thanks to Feng Chengze’s constant reminders or warnings that looking back too much was meaningless. She listened and stopped thinking about it. Why was he starting to care now?
She found the position uncomfortable and pushed him, “Move over. I want to lie down too.”
He had to make some space for her. Hospital beds weren’t very large, not much bigger than a typical 1.5-meter bed at home. Feng Chengze was tall with long legs, and she wasn’t short either. Lying together, they weren’t cramped, but it wasn’t as comfortable as at home.
“Why do I feel that Yuan Bao was an accident, but the marriage wasn’t?”
Ji Qingyu smiled, pulling his arm over, holding his large hand, and placing it on her flat stomach, “Getting pregnant and married at twenty-two is a bit scary. If there were a survey, at least eighty percent of people would choose to abort the child.”
“If nothing unexpected happened, I would be one of those eighty percent.”
Feng Chengze tightened his grip, realizing her hand was still in his palm. He loosened it again, afraid of unintentionally hurting her in his restrained emotions.
“I don’t believe in painless abortions, but having a child is a bigger price to pay than an abortion, right?” Ji Qingyu patted her chest with lingering fear, “No one knows me better than myself. You’ve met my parents; they never force me to do things I don’t like. If I didn’t want Yuan Bao, no one could convince me to keep her.”
“I must have been willing. But then, there’s another problem.” She turned to look at him, their faces closed, her breath on his ear. “Three or four months, that’s just a little embryo. To say I had a full maternal love after knowing about her existence, my dear Feng, do you believe that?”
Feng Chengze didn’t respond. But they both had the same experience, waking up to find they had a lively child, a little girl who interacted with people and sweetly called them mom and dad. Even so, did they have a deep love for Yuan Bao from the start?
“At any time, I wouldn’t force myself to give a child a perfect family. Let’s put it this way: although the Feng family is indeed wealthy, marrying someone without feelings…” Ji Qingyu said, “I wouldn’t even get past my parents.”
She moved his hand up to her heart, “Do you understand?”
A few years ago, it wasn’t just that he liked her a lot; she must have liked him a lot, too, or she wouldn’t have kept the child.
Feng Chengze’s expression softened. Even someone like him was moved by her words, the inexplicable emotions surrounding his heart gradually dissipating and becoming tender. He didn’t want to say anything or ask anything more; he just wanted to kiss her talkative lips, but she turned her head, letting him kiss her earlobe instead.
“And you?” she asked softly.
Feng Chengze froze, his lips still on her ear, “What?”
Ji Qingyu showed him her unique skill, changing her expression. She took a deep breath, the gentle smile on her face disappearing. She pushed him away and sat up, “I ask you, why do you want to marry me?”
Feng Cheng seemed stumped by this question.
Ji Qingyu: “…” Oh heavens, why did she end up with such a man??
She didn’t know whether to be angry or to laugh. She lifted the blanket to get up, but he pressed her down, “Do you think I’m the kind of person who can be with just anyone?”
Feng Cheng wanted to say that if he were that kind of person, his child might already be in middle school by now. How could he still be someone who believes that spitting out medicine can fool everyone?
“Well, I don’t know.” Ji Qingyu was secretly laughing but still pretended to be angry on the surface. “You know.”
Feng Chengze wasn’t good at sweet talk. For things he wasn’t good at, it was better not to do them, lest he overdo it. He looked at her intensely, suddenly reached out, grabbed the bell by the bed, and thankfully, his arm was long enough to press the “Do Not Disturb” button before kissing her lips. He thought she would definitely make a fuss for a while, but unexpectedly, she was very cooperative, even more so than him.
Ji Qingyu naturally had her own thoughts.
Where was this? The hospital, the ward, with all the daily necessities, but lacking that. She had some complaints about him; he was good at kissing but never said sweet words to make her happy. Was that right?
She clung to his muscular back and tilted her head to exchange saliva with him. The privacy and soundproofing of this ward were quite good; there was no smell of medicine on the patient’s gown; it was soft, and the sheets and pillowcases were pure white. Her hair spread out like a painting.
Feng Chengze’s Adam’s apple was almost not to be touched casually. In the past, at home, when she lightly touched it with her fingertip, he would grab her wrist. At that time, he was dangerous. He was unreasonable. He liked to feel her heartbeat, but the pulse point he was close to was not a vital spot. He probably didn’t like the feeling of having his life in someone else’s hands; he was very dominant. She hooked her arms around his neck, forcing him to lean down, her soft lips pressing against his sharp Adam’s apple. As she chuckled softly, teasing him with a kiss but not actually kissing, a tingling sensation surged through her body like an electric current.
Even though Feng Chengze was several beats slower than usual at this moment, it was enough for him to understand the reason for her audacity and recklessness quickly. Even Ji Qingyu, who was caught in a similar situation, felt that today was worth it.
Lazily lying on the bed, her long, silky hair covered her fair back, still unable to hide her delicate curves. Under the light, it seemed like a layer of pearl sheen was cast over her.
She was panting heavily while trying to stifle a laugh. Glancing at him sideways, she teasingly said, “This inpatient department is managed very strictly; they won’t even let takeout be delivered here.”
This isn’t a hotel; hotel staff wouldn’t care how late guests pick up their delivery.
At the Zheng family’s hospital, he might only stay once every few years, and every move he makes is closely watched. If he wants to take the elevator out, the hospital director’s secretary will probably rush over in a panic to ask if he needs help. In short, based on her understanding of Feng Chengze, he would most likely just endure it.
It’s nothing. He had been enduring it all along before that time at the mountain. He often got up early to take cold showers. Anyway, he would live for a thousand years, so taking a shower now wouldn’t matter.
“I didn’t plan to order takeout.” Feng Chengze sat on the bed and said calmly. The hospital gown was loose. He liked cleanliness, and before Ji Qingyu came, he had also taken a shower and changed into it. She watched him spread his top on the bed, still wondering why he was doing this.
“It’s not home, and changing the sheets is troublesome.” He patiently explained, “Clothes don’t matter; just wash them casually, and you can wear them tomorrow.”
“Wait…”
Why did that sound a bit strange?
“No need to wait.” The curtains in the room were also automatically drawn. He turned off the light, leaving only a small night light, emitting a soft glow like a firefly in the dark.
Ji Qingyu’s eyes widened suddenly, and she hurriedly turned over to push him, “No way!”
Yuan Bao was an accident.
If something really happened now, who would dare to say it was an accident? That would be preparing for pregnancy!
However, until now, she thought he was deliberately scaring her.
“Why not?” He casually brushed her hair aside and pressed her slender shoulders.
“You know the answer!” she panicked, trying to avoid his hot breath and kisses. “It’s not home without that; don’t even think about it.”
Feng Chengze chuckled lightly, “Really? Oh, I almost forgot to tell you something—”
He lowered his head and whispered a few words in her ear. When she gasped in surprise, he said softly, “Got it?”
