Chapter 7
“Your hat—”
“Feng Jiayuan, your hat—”
The gentle Teacher Zhou quickly picked it up from the ground, caught up with Feng Jiayuan, and helped her put it back on, smiling, “Are you happy that your mom and dad came to pick you up?”
Feng Jiayuan’s face turned red with joy, nodding like a little chick pecking at rice, “Yes!!”
No child would be unhappy if both parents came to pick them up from school. She even wanted to spin around in circles on the spot!
Every day, when she returned to her grandmother’s house, she would ask when her parents would come back.
Grandma always said, “Soon, soon.”
This morning, before leaving, she asked seriously again, “When will they come back, Ms. Zheng? I want an accurate answer.”
“Little ancestor, they will come back today,” Grandma repeatedly assured her that she would see her parents as soon as she got home from school.
Seeing her like this, Teacher Zhou patted her backpack with a smile, “Go on.”
After swiping her card and walking out of the safety gate, Feng Jiayuan suddenly became awkward. She was really shy now, feeling like she hadn’t seen her parents for a long time. She was delighted but also a bit hesitant.
Ji Qingyu’s heart was in her throat; without needing any mental preparation, the instinct in her body prompted her to step forward, hug the little one’s head, and kiss her hard on the top of her head.
Smelling her mother’s familiar scent, Feng Jiayuan was no longer awkward. She reached out and hugged Ji Qingyu’s waist, nudging and rubbing her head. “Mom, you still smell so sweet!”
Feng Chengze stood watching from the side. His hand, hanging by his side, moved slightly, but he couldn’t step forward. He knew this little girl was his daughter, but he couldn’t hug her like Ji Qingyu did.
So, in others’ eyes, it was this scene: the daughter hugging her mom intimately while the dad looked like a statue.
Obviously, Feng Jiayuan had a good relationship with her dad, too. After letting go of her mom, she struggled to look up at her tall, mountain-like dad, grinning. Her shyness had dissipated in the previous hug, so she suddenly hugged her dad’s leg.
“Dad! I missed you too!”
Feng Chengze looked down at this little leg-hugger, his thigh muscles tensing under his suit pants. His stern face revealed some confusion.
Fortunately, the kindergarten entrance was bustling, so he didn’t need to react immediately. The children from the Rose class also came out one after another, chatting and greeting Feng Jiayuan: “Feng Jiayuan! Your mom and dad came to pick you up today!”
“Feng Jiayuan, is today your birthday?”
“Happy birthday, my lord!”
The other children were extremely envious. This treatment was comparable to celebrating the New Year, and having it once a year was already quite good.
If it weren’t a birthday, they wouldn’t accept it!
Feng Jiayuan, with her cute pigtails, was very proud. “It’s not my birthday~”
Another boy’s mother was amused. “Xu Yichuan, why do you call Feng Jiayuan ‘my lord’? Where did you learn that?”
“She is my lord.”
Xu Yichuan’s parents were on a business trip abroad, so he was sent to his grandparents’ house. His grandfather watched TV dramas every day. He heard the words “my lord” and “my liege” and thought they sounded mighty, perfect for Feng Jiayuan. He unilaterally declared Feng Jiayuan as his lord and liege.
The parents were amused by him, and the elderly grandparents, with their gray hair but energetic spirits, were particularly proud. “This kid talks about Feng Jiayuan all the time at home.”
Ji Qingyu’s mouth was almost stiff from smiling. Although she wasn’t socially anxious, dealing with these moms and grandparents was really uncomfortable for her. Besides smiling, she could only smile. She secretly glanced at Feng Chengze, who was standing like a statue beside her. She was really envious. Perhaps because of his persona, even if he didn’t chat with anyone or show any expression, no one found it strange, including Yuan Bao, who hugged his leg like a koala.
After the kindergarten class was dismissed, the middle and senior classes also waited. The parents didn’t want to block the school gate, so after a quick goodbye, they all led their children towards the parking lot, fearing that if they delayed any longer, the traffic would start to jam, further delaying their time to get home.
“Feng Jiayuan, see you tomorrow!”
“Feng Jiayuan, call me tonight, or I won’t be your best friend anymore.”
The little ones finally dispersed after chattering.
After a brief recovery, Feng Chengze hesitated, then reached out and rubbed Feng Jiayuan’s little head. The soft hair tickled his palm, bringing a faint smile to his usually calm eyes. He no longer hesitated, bent down, and gently lifted her up.
Almost four-year-old Feng Jiayuan was a slightly chubby child. Feng Chengze easily held her, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, pouting and planting a wet kiss on his cheek.
Caught off guard by the child’s saliva, Feng Chengze: “…”
“Mommy~”
Ji Qingyu leaned over, thinking there was something important. But who knew this chubby-looking child was actually very agile? She twisted her body, reached out her hands, cupped Ji Qingyu’s face, and, with her round eyes looking left and right, asked, “Mom, did you put on makeup today?”
“Yes, I did. Why?”
Feng Jiayuan, looking regretful, covered her mouth with her right hand and said, “Then I can’t kiss your face.”
Mom had said that if she wore makeup, she couldn’t be kissed because it might make her sick and need an injection. But she had seen Dad kiss her. She asked Mom why Dad could kiss her, but she couldn’t. Mom had said something she couldn’t remember exactly, something like Dad could live for a thousand years, so it didn’t matter if he got sick.
Ji Qingyu resisted the urge to pinch her cheeks. She hadn’t yet gotten into the role of being a mom. Looking at Yuan Bao was like an aunt looking at a cute child, so she deliberately teased, “Then what should we do?”
Feng Jiayuan pulled her hand over and gave a loud kiss on the back of her hand.
It tickled, and she couldn’t help but laugh.
Feng Chengze’s gaze slowly moved to Ji Qingyu’s hand, seemingly inspecting it from a distance to see if it was clean.
Ji Qingyu met his eyes: “…”
Wait?
What kind of look was that??
“Let’s go.”
Feng Chengze spoke in a low voice. Under the eaves, one has to bow. Ji Qingyu dared not speak out in anger and could only suppress her smile and agree. She really didn’t understand. For a man who hadn’t even looked at her properly, she might have gritted her teeth and married him for the money. But what about him? Was there a knife to his throat forcing him to marry her?
“Mom, hurry up~”
Feng Jiayuan urged Ji Qingyu to catch up.
Touching her round, chubby cheeks, Ji Qingyu suddenly had a bold guess: she had traveled five years into the future, with a five-year gap.
Yuan Bao was four years old this year, could it be…
A one-night stand?
If that were the case, it would be clear who was wilder and more shameless. Given their differences in physical strength, economic status, and social standing, could she have possibly overpowered Feng Chengze, the president of Yisheng Group?
“Keep up.” Feng Chengze didn’t hear the sound of high heels clicking. He wasn’t used to being alone with a child, so he slowed down to wait for Ji Qingyu.
Hearing the two words that sounded like a command, Ji Qingyu shivered and pushed all the colorful thoughts out of her mind. “Coming.”
The three of them were undoubtedly a beautiful sight. When they reached the parking area, Ji Qingyu noticed that not only was their car cool, but the other cars were also quite eye-catching, with Elsa, StellaLou, and Peppa Pig designs…
These kids were really fortunate.
Ji Qingyu looked back again. When they got in the car, she saw Feng Chengze looking helpless. She almost laughed out loud. Yuan Bao had already agilely climbed into the car seat and skillfully fastened the shoulder and seat belts, leaving no room for Dad to help.
“Mom, did you bring me a gift?” Feng Jiayuan eagerly turned her head and asked.
From Ji Qingyu’s perspective, she could only see half of her face. “Of course I did.”
“What is it? What is it?”
Ji Qingyu saw the gift in the box but still replied uncertainly, “Mom brought you chocolate. Dad…”
She glanced at Feng Chengze beside her. Their eyes met, and she mouthed to him, “The music box is from you.”
Who bought the chocolate and who bought the music box was still a mystery. They could only randomly assign the gifts to get by.
“Yay, I love chocolate! What did Dad get me?” Feng Jiayuan eagerly asked. She loved receiving gifts the most!
Fortunately, she was sitting in the front and strapped into the car seat, so she couldn’t see her parents exchanging desperate glances and mouthing words. Otherwise, Yuan Bao would have seen through their act in no time.
Feng Chengze didn’t catch Ji Qingyu’s hint. He frowned as he heard his daughter’s excited and expectant voice.
Ji Qingyu moved closer to him and mouthed, “Mu-sic box.”
“It’s a music box,” Feng Chengze said, staring at her with a deep gaze and speaking in a low voice.
This little episode brought them closer again. He watched her lips move, his gaze shifting slightly to meet hers deeply. As she leaned closer, her skirt brushed against his shoes, and her scent lingered around his nose.
Ji Qingyu froze as if pushed back by his cold and deep gaze. She quickly leaned back, straightened her posture, and felt annoyed. Even though he was her husband five years later, and they had a child, it didn’t change the fact that they were essentially strangers and unfamiliar with each other.
Feng Chengze’s Adam’s apple moved, and his hand on his knee unconsciously tightened. He felt inexplicably embarrassed. But he was sure he hadn’t fully mastered this body yet. This body was obsessed with her. When she got closer, his eyes and nose would uncontrollably look at her and smell her. But he was sure that he himself had no other thoughts about her, so he shouldn’t be controlled by habit.
