Chapter 18: Marrying Lin Dawei Off to a Fool
How could Lin Dawei be so kind?
Of course, he couldn’t.
Since they were young, every time he saw Lin Xiaodou, he called her an ugly freak.
Tonight was the first time he called her “sister.”
The reason was simple.
There was something added to that meat—it was specially prepared for Lin Xiaodou.
Nothing seemed unusual after eating it.
But in another three to five hours, when the night was deep and quiet, she would fall into a complete coma.
Thinking about what would happen to Lin Xiaodou tonight made Lin Dawei feel great.
That’s why he was in such a good mood and called her “sister.”
Seeing Lin Xiaodou still standing there without moving, Lin Mu grew impatient.
“What are you standing around for? Hurry up and eat!”
Pork at the supply co-op cost 0.8 yuan per jin and required a meat ticket.
Such expensive food was usually only bought during festivals or the New Year.
To ensure tonight’s plan succeeded, Lin Mu had really spent a fortune—and her heart ached for it.
“Yes, Xiaodou, come eat dinner. Your mom made braised pork,” Lin Father chimed in with a kindly smile.
In her memories, he had rarely ever spoken to the original owner so gently. Normally, his tone was indifferent.
Looks like tonight they were all putting on a full act to trick her.
Since the stage was already set, how could she not play along?
“Sure.”
Lin Xiaodou smiled and walked over.
As soon as she sat down, she pulled the plate of glistening, fragrant braised pork belly in front of her.
She picked up a piece with her chopsticks and, under the watchful eyes of everyone, put it in her mouth.
“Mmm! So good!”
Lin Xiaodou nodded as she ate mouthful after mouthful of the meat.
Lin Father and Lin Mu exchanged a glance.
A gleam of triumph flashed in both of their eyes.
It worked! Now all they had to do was wait for things to unfold tonight!
The couple were thrilled.
But they didn’t know that the drugged pork had absolutely no effect on Lin Xiaodou.
Ever since she ate the Divine Strength Fortifying Pill, her physical constitution had completely changed. She was now immune to all poisons.
Let alone this small trick—even if it were deadly poison, she’d probably still eat it without a problem.
And to be fair, while Lin Mu was a terrible person, her cooking skills weren’t bad at all.
With the pork belly and white rice, Lin Xiaodou quickly finished off the whole plate.
After finishing, she returned to her room without saying a word to anyone else.
Lin Mu gritted her teeth and muttered, “That little wretch can really eat—half a jin of meat! If it weren’t for…”
“Enough,” Lin Father interrupted. “Don’t say too much. Tonight’s matter is the priority.”
Lin Dawei quickly added, “Dad, I want to help tonight too.”
He wanted to witness that wretch’s downfall with his own eyes.
“No way,” Lin Father rejected flatly.
For this plan, he had specifically arranged for outsiders to carry it out. He didn’t want family members getting involved.
Lin Dawei was too impulsive—not suited for this sort of thing.
Seeing that his son looked disappointed, Lin Father reassured him, “Just get some rest tonight. Tomorrow morning, we’ll go see the aftermath.”
Hearing that, Lin Dawei’s mood immediately lifted.
“Alright! Got it!”
After dinner, Lin Mu went to wash the dishes, and Lin Father returned to his room to change his bandages.
Feeling bored, Lin Dawei strolled around the house.
Suddenly, his eyes lit up.
Seeing that Lin Father and Lin Mu weren’t paying attention, he ran over and knocked on Lin Xiaodou’s door.
“Sis, open up.”
Inside the room, Lin Xiaodou’s eyes sparkled.
She had just been thinking of how to lure Lin Dawei into her room.
She didn’t expect him to come knocking himself.
A free delivery—how could she not accept it?
Lin Xiaodou suppressed her inner excitement and opened the door with a cold expression.
“What is it?”
“Oh, nothing. Just thought you’ve been acting all smug lately. Better be careful when you go out.”
Though Lin Dawei was smiling, his eyes were full of malicious glee.
Ugly freak, after tonight, your peaceful days are over. Just wait and see.
Hearing this, Lin Xiaodou raised an eyebrow.
Looks like Lin Dawei had come to provoke her.
He must think tonight’s plan was a done deal, so he came over to gloat.
No wonder Father Lin didn’t let him participate in any of this.
With his impulsive nature and inability to keep a secret, he’d ruin everything.
“Thanks for the reminder,” Lin Xiaodou said, deliberately pretending not to understand, even going so far as to invite him inside.
Then she took a sponge cake from the nightstand and began eating it in front of Lin Dawei, not minding him at all.
Lin Dawei couldn’t stand it.
He’d always eaten alone since he was young, and he especially loved sweets.
Plus, Lin Xiaodou had been acting approachable lately—she didn’t seem like a lunatic at all.
So he let his guard down.
He snatched the sponge cake from Lin Xiaodou’s hands.
Seeing that she didn’t resist at all, Lin Dawei felt as though things had returned to the way they used to be.
As he chewed on the cake, his expression turned fierce.
“Ugly freak, where’d you get the money to buy something this fancy? Hand it over, or I’ll tell Mom!”
Lin Xiaodou sneered. “Go ahead, tell her.”
“You’re not afraid I’ll—hm? What the… why do I feel dizzy…”
Just as he was about to threaten her again, his head began to spin and his vision blurred.
And finally, under Lin Xiaodou’s smiling gaze, he collapsed.
“Hmph!”
Lin Xiaodou kicked him twice.
Then she stripped him, dressed him in her clothes, wrapped his head and face in a scarf, tossed him onto the bed, and covered him with a blanket.
Afterward, she quietly slipped into Lin Dawei’s room while Father Lin and Lin Jie weren’t paying attention.
She buried herself under his covers, creating the illusion that she’d gone to bed early.
Sure enough, after doing the dishes, Lin Jie came to check in.
Seeing “her son” already asleep, she didn’t disturb him and turned to leave.
In the dark, Lin Xiaodou grinned.
Everything was ready—now to sit back and enjoy the show tonight!
———
2 a.m.
Three burly men quietly sneaked into the Lin household.
They were local thugs hired by Father Lin through underworld connections—men who specialized in shady business.
Beforehand, Father Lin had carefully disguised himself.
He didn’t want to leave any evidence behind that might trace back to him.
When he paid them, he explained that he had a grudge against Lin Xiaodou, the daughter of the Lin family, and wanted her taught a lesson.
To ensure there was no mistake, Father Lin even emphasized:
Lin Xiaodou was unloved at home and stayed in a storage room at the corner of the house.
She also feared water, so they were to take her to the riverside in West Park in the dead of night—just spending the night outside would terrify her senseless.
Hearing how easy the job was and how much money they’d make, the three thugs quickly accepted.
What they didn’t know was—this was only the first part.
The widow Liu lived near West Park. She and the fool would be waiting there.
Once the delivery was made, they’d secretly bring the person home and “seal the deal.”
Then, early in the morning, Father Lin and Lin Jie would show up at Widow Liu’s house pretending to look for their daughter.
By then, Lin Xiaodou’s reputation would be ruined, despised by all, with no choice but to marry the fool.
Father Lin thought the plan was perfect—meticulously thought out.
What he never imagined…
Was that the person who’d end up humiliated wouldn’t be Lin Xiaodou—but his precious son.
———
In the dark of night.
One thug led the way.
The other two carried a blanket-wrapped figure.
The three men hurried toward West Park.
One of them, panting heavily, cursed, “Damn, why is this woman so heavy? She’s gonna kill me!”
The leader asked, “You sure we got the right person?”
Another replied, “Pretty sure. Heard the girl has facial scars and even wears a scarf to bed. This one’s got that too.”
“Then let’s get going. We’ve already been paid.”
Thirty minutes later, they dumped the bundled figure by the riverside at West Park.
Soon after, two figures emerged from the shadows.
One of them was Widow Liu, pushing a handcart.
They loaded the person onto the cart, and Widow Liu returned home with the fool.
The moment they arrived, the fool began shouting about consummating the marriage.
“Wife!”
He didn’t even bother to see who it was in the bed.
Drooling, he pounced…
