Chapter 20: Those Who Commit Too Many Misdeeds Will Eventually Destroy Themselves!
When Lin Xiaodou arrived…
A crowd had already gathered around Widow Liu’s house to watch the spectacle.
All the good spots were taken, so she had to find another place.
Lin Xiaodou looked around, her gaze locking onto a large tree.
That tree belonged to the yard next to Widow Liu’s, right up against the wall separating the two houses.
There was a big branch up there—just perfect for sitting and watching the drama unfold.
Agile as she was, Lin Xiaodou quickly scaled the corner of the courtyard wall and settled onto the large branch.
The courtyard was in complete chaos.
The fool lay on the ground, his face deathly pale, a knife stuck in his head.
Blood was everywhere. No one knew if he was dead or alive.
The fool’s mother, Widow Liu, was clutching Lin Dawei’s hair and screaming at him to pay with his life.
Lin Dawei was completely naked, desperately covering his privates with a ragged pillow, his head hanging low, letting her pull and shout at him.
Below, the crowd of onlookers was already buzzing.
“Oh my, what on earth happened? Why does the fool have a knife in his head?”
“What else could it be? Must’ve had one of his episodes, mistook that young man for a woman and tried something indecent. Got himself hacked in return.”
“Good heavens… Two men? Is that even possible? I’ve never heard of such a thing!”
“What’s the big deal? It’s just like a loach diving into a hole—as long as there’s a hole…”
Hearing this, Lin Dawei shivered all over.
If talk like this spread, his reputation would really be ruined.
He hurriedly broke free of Widow Liu’s grip and shouted hoarsely:
“I didn’t get drilled by the fool, don’t talk nonsense!”
But Widow Liu, seeing him trying to escape, held tight to his clothes and screamed:
“Don’t even think about running! You injured my son—if anything happens to him, I won’t let you off!”
While the two of them were tussling, Lin’s father and mother finally arrived.
Hearing what had happened to their precious son, Lin’s mother flew into a rage.
“You damned Liu family! Even a fool dares to bully my son? Do you think the Lin family has no one?!”
She stormed forward, yanked Widow Liu’s hair, and spat in her face: “Pah! Cursed widow! Walking disaster!”
Widow Liu wasn’t one to back down. She grabbed Lin Mother’s hair and began clawing at her.
Amid the crowd’s shouting—some trying to break up the fight, some just enjoying the show—
Lin Xiaodou sat on the branch, a handful of sunflower seeds in her hand.
Cracking seeds one by one, she started shouting instructions.
“That’s not how you fight! Hair-pulling doesn’t even hurt! Bite her nose instead!”
Down below, Lin Mother’s eyes lit up—
And she bit down hard on Widow Liu’s nose.
Widow Liu screamed in pain.
“Ow! If she’s biting your nose, bite her ear back!”
Widow Liu took the advice and chomped down on Lin Mother’s ear.
She yanked viciously, and blood started trickling from Lin Mother’s ear.
Lin Mother’s eyes turned red as she shrieked:
“Aaahhh! I’ll fight you to the death!”
The two of them were now in a full-on brawl, scratching and biting each other like madwomen.
…
In the courtyard next door, a tall, slender figure appeared.
He had just taken a step when a crisp voice nearby caught his attention.
“Yes! Bite her! That’s it! Bite her hard!”
The girl wore a short blue shirt and sat with her back facing him on the tree branch by the courtyard wall.
One arm was raised high, waving excitedly.
In her other hand was a bunch of sunflower seeds, and she kept munching away.
Zhou Qinglang had just walked underneath—
When a mischievous sunflower seed husk fluttered down and landed right on his head.
Zhou Qinglang paused, surprised.
He reached up, picked the husk out of his hair, and smiled.
Dappled sunlight filtered through the gold-rimmed lenses of his glasses,
Glimmering in his gentle black eyes with a faint shimmer.
He looked up and asked the girl, “Is it that good of a show? What’s going on over there?”
“It’s great! The fight’s super exciting!”
Lin Xiaodou was completely engrossed in the scene and didn’t bother to look down.
She assumed it was just someone curious asking questions, so she replied offhandedly without even turning her head:
“The fool from Widow Liu’s house almost did something to the Lin family’s son last night. Now the two families are making a huge scene.”
Zhou Qinglang raised his brows slightly. “The fool is that capable? He could drag someone all the way home?”
“Who knows? Originally, the Lin family was going to marry their daughter off to that fool for a bride price. Probably just grabbed the wrong person.”
“You sure seem to know a lot.”
“Of course! You can’t just eat part of the melon—you gotta get the whole scoop!”
The girl’s tone carried a touch of pride.
Zhou Qinglang chuckled and didn’t disturb her further, turning to leave.
Just as he exited the courtyard, he passed two gossiping aunties.
“Hey, did you see? The girl sitting in the tree is the Lin family’s daughter—the one who was supposed to marry the fool.”
Zhou Qinglang paused mid-step.
“Oh, it’s her? No wonder she was laughing so loudly up there. She must be thrilled to have dodged a bullet.”
“No kidding. That fool of Widow Liu’s was vicious. He even beat one of his previous wives to death…”
The two aunties’ voices gradually faded into the distance.
Zhou Qinglang turned to glance at the figure perched on the tree by the courtyard wall.
In his ink-dark eyes, a twinkle of amusement stirred.
He hadn’t expected that a simple visit to a friend would bring him face to face with such an intriguing person.
That girl was ruthless and cunning—with both guts and brains.
He quite admired that.
Zhou Qinglang only watched for a few seconds before turning away without hesitation.
There are too many things worth appreciating in this world. A brief pause is enough.
He had more important matters to attend to…
In the courtyard.
With the arrival of the public security officers, the chaos finally came to an end.
After their inspection, it was confirmed: the fool had died.
A knife wound to the back of the head had caused massive blood loss, leading to death.
If Widow Liu hadn’t gotten into a fight with the Lin family and had instead rushed the fool to the hospital, he might have survived.
But now, it was too late.
When she heard the news, Widow Liu broke down in hysterical sobs.
Seeing her foolish son lying on the ground, she had been overwhelmed by rage and had only wanted revenge—she hadn’t thought of anything else.
Had she known her son would die, she never would’ve acted so impulsively.
“Ahhh! I’m a sinner of the Liu family! My son is gone—how am I supposed to live now?!”
Widow Liu knelt on the ground, beating her head with crazed fury, looking completely deranged.
But none of the watching neighbors stepped forward to stop her.
People blamed her for how poorly she’d behaved.
She had always indulged her son’s violent outbursts, and everyone had been avoiding them because of it.
Now that such a huge scandal had erupted, no one wanted to get involved.
It was only one of the public security officers who couldn’t bear to watch anymore and stepped forward to restrain her.
As a key witness to the murder, Widow Liu had to go to the station to give her statement.
The officer cuffed Lin Dawei and prepared to take him away.
Lin’s mother wailed and screamed as she followed them, even forgetting to push Lin’s father.
Once the crowd dispersed, only Lin’s father remained in the courtyard, sitting in his wheelchair.
The once bustling scene had turned utterly desolate.
Lin Xiaodou jumped down from the tree, beaming as she walked over.
“So? What did you think of today’s drama—good show, huh?”
Lin’s father trembled all over in rage, his face flushed deep purple.
“You ungrateful wretch! You did this to your brother—you’ll suffer retribution for this!”
Lin Xiaodou smiled.
“Me? I’m the one who did this? Wasn’t it you who caused all of this?
Those who harm others will eventually be harmed. Repeated injustice leads to self-destruction!
Lin Jianqiang, remember this forever—you are the one who personally turned your son into a murderer.”
At those words, Lin’s father looked like he had been struck by lightning.
He slumped into his wheelchair, speechless.
It was as if he had aged ten years in an instant…
