Chapter 23: Lin Xiaodou Reunites with Her Biological Parents
After watching the two leave, Wu Ya looked worried.
“Min-ge, what should we do?
If Tianjun finds out that Xuefei was the one who hit the person, would he still want to be with her?”
She had finally hoped for such an excellent son-in-law—she couldn’t just let him slip away.
She bragged about him often to her old friends.
If they found out about this, wouldn’t they laugh at her to death?
Lin Zhengmin said, “Don’t panic. You always get flustered easily. You almost gave us away just now.”
Wu Ya pursed her lips. “I’m just worried about Xuefei…”
Lin Zhengmin gave her a fleeting glance, not bothering to expose her real motives.
After a moment, he spoke up:
“There’s still a way to turn this around. We just need a scapegoat.”
Wu Ya frowned. “But how do we find one?
The people living around here are either rich or powerful. Who would be willing to take the fall for something like this? If things go badly, they could end up in jail!”
Lin Zhengmin took a sip of tea.
“It could’ve been a passing relative. Doesn’t have to be someone who lives here.”
“Right! That makes it easier. We offer some money or benefits—maybe someone will agree!”
Wu Ya’s eyes lit up, but she quickly looked worried again:
“But knowing Tianjun’s personality, he’ll probably have investigated everyone within ten days. Time’s tight—where are we going to find someone?”
Just as Lin Zhengmin was about to speak, their housemaid Aunt Chen came in.
“Mr. Lin, Mrs. Lin, there’s a woman outside named Lin Xiaodou. She says she’s your biological daughter and wants to meet you.”
Upon hearing this, a smile curled at the corner of Lin Zhengmin’s lips.
“Isn’t the perfect candidate here already?”
……
Ten minutes later, in the living room.
Looking at the poorly dressed girl before her, with an ugly scar on her face, Wu Ya covered her mouth in disgust.
She couldn’t understand why her husband let someone so shabby inside.
And this ugly girl claimed to be their biological daughter?
Absolutely ridiculous!
Wu Ya rolled her eyes and said with contempt:
“You say you’re our biological daughter. What proof do you have?
The Lin family is a medical family—we’re not some stray dogs anyone can latch onto.”
Her deceased in-laws had been professors at Beijing’s No.1 Hospital.
Her husband was a surgeon and also the vice director at that same hospital.
She herself was the head nurse of the internal medicine department.
Generations of the family had worked in medicine; they were considered a prestigious family in Beijing.
How could they let an unknown ugly girl spout nonsense?
Hearing Wu Ya’s words, Lin Xiaodou suddenly laughed.
Before coming to the Lin family, she actually held some hope.
After all, characters in books were controlled by plot—maybe reality would be different. They were her blood-related parents, after all.
But from the very first glance, Lin Xiaodou knew she had been wrong.
“If I’m some stray, then my biological parents must be beasts.
Or worse than beasts—what kind of parent doesn’t even want to acknowledge their own child?”
Lin Xiaodou smiled as she looked at Lin Zhengmin, making his skin crawl.
He clenched his fist and coughed twice.
“You child, how can you speak so harshly?”
Wu Ya snorted on the side.
“With a daughter who can speak such filthy words, her birth mother must not be any good either!”
Lin Zhengmin’s face darkened. “Shut up!”
Wu Ya looked shocked and aggrieved.
“Min-ge, you yelled at me? You’re yelling at me for a smelly girl who came out of nowhere?!”
Lin Zhengmin gave her a warning glance.
“I’ll explain later in the room.”
That look carried a deep warning, and Wu Ya dared not speak again.
Lin Zhengmin turned his gaze to Lin Xiaodou.
“Since you’re here, just stay. We won’t treat you poorly.”
Even though he didn’t know how she had found out the truth about her identity, it didn’t matter anymore.
They were desperate for a scapegoat to take the blame for Xuefei.
Since she had shown up on her own, there was no need to look elsewhere.
……
There were two servant rooms on the first floor.
Aunt Chen lived in one; the other was empty.
Lin Xiaodou moved into the vacant one.
After putting down her wooden box, she summoned Tiaotiao from her space.
Tiaotiao had a paw on a piece of beef and another holding a caterpillar, munching away happily.
Seeing the change in environment, Tiaotiao blinked its big, sparkly Kaslan eyes in confusion.
It tilted its little head and looked at Lin Xiaodou.
It seemed to be asking her why it was called out.
“Tiaotiao, stop eating! Go complete the mission first. I’ll give you something even tastier afterward!”
Lin Xiaodou ordered it to go upstairs and eavesdrop.
As soon as Tiaotiao heard there was tastier food waiting, it excitedly raised its furry paw.
“Roger! Mission will be completed!”
BIU~
It leapt three meters in one bound.
In just a few seconds, it was gone without a trace.
Looking at its desperate scramble for food, Lin Xiaodou couldn’t help but laugh.
This little guy really was a glutton.
With some free time on her hands, Lin Xiaodou began to examine the room.
The room had all the basics—bed, wardrobe, desk—everything it needed.
It was also quite spacious, even larger than the old Lin family’s guest hall.
As expected from a prominent medical family.
Even a small servant’s room was fully furnished and decorated with such extravagance.
Lin Xiaodou didn’t mind living in a servant’s room.
After all, she never planned to stay long.
Once she was done tormenting this family and looted everything, she’d be gone—what did it matter where she stayed?
The reason Lin Xiaodou took the initiative to show up…
Was because according to the original plot, the original host was also acknowledged by the family around this time.
In the novel, the original host, after escaping and breaking her leg, rested for over ten days, but was still forced by her family to marry a fool.
She had tried to escape once before and, lacking confidence to do it again, had resigned herself to her fate.
She thought that as long as she obeyed and worked hard in the fool’s household, nothing would go wrong.
But the fool was born violent and domineering, always tormenting her.
The original host truly couldn’t endure it.
During one of his violent assaults in bed, she resisted with all her strength.
In the end, the fool stabbed her eye with a pair of scissors, leaving her blind in one eye and sending her to the hospital.
Ironically, the one who performed her surgery was her biological father—Lin Zhengmin.
Lin Zhengmin was a surgeon at Beijing First Hospital.
He had actually known for a while that the original host was his biological daughter.
Over ten days earlier, when the original host was admitted for her broken leg…
It was Lin Zhengmin who had received and treated her.
During the treatment, he discovered that her blood type matched his—an extremely rare “panda blood” type.
This type is almost always inherited from a parent.
Suspicion arose in Lin Zhengmin’s mind.
That night, he seized an opportunity to secretly collect Lin Xuefei’s blood and found that her blood type matched neither his nor his wife’s.
He dug further, pulling up delivery records and other historical data from years ago.
Eventually, he confirmed that the original host was indeed his biological daughter.
And the adopted daughter, Lin Xuefei, must’ve been a result of a hospital mix-up.
At first, Lin Zhengmin hesitated—should he bring the original host back home?
But shortly after, the adopted daughter Lin Xuefei announced she was dating someone—Zhang Tianjun.
Zhang Tianjun was the son of the general manager of a department store, wealthy and influential.
Afraid that Zhang Tianjun would sever ties if he discovered Xuefei’s true origins…
Lin Zhengmin chose to give up the original host.
Faced with the choice between a disfigured, destitute daughter and a rich, powerful future son-in-law…
Lin Zhengmin, without hesitation, chose the latter.
He thought all would remain peaceful, and that the secret would never surface.
But then Lin Xuefei caused a huge incident—she hit someone with her car.
While agonizing over how to clean up her mess, Lin Zhengmin ran into the original host, freshly blinded by the fool.
A flash of inspiration hit him.
The original host was already disfigured and disabled, with no future to speak of.
Why not have her take the fall for Lin Xuefei? That would be a great favor to the Lin family.
Soon after, Lin Zhengmin officially acknowledged the original host.
From there, her next tragedy began and led to her dying miserably far from home.
Thinking back to this point…
And to all the vile deeds committed by everyone in the prestigious Lin medical family in the book…
Lin Xiaodou felt her fists itch.
This time, she hadn’t come knocking just to take the fall for some fake daughter.
She was going to destroy the so-called prestigious Lin medical family…
And make the entire Lin family pay the price!!
