Chapter 4: Crossing into the 70s
At the same time…
In the parallel world, the summer of 1970.
In the Beijing suburbs, within a small storage room in the canning factory’s workers’ dormitory.
Lin Xiaodou lay motionless on a wooden bed.
She looked around at the old, worn surroundings and the bandaged leg she had.
In her mind, it felt like ten thousand alpacas were running wildly.
She never imagined, despite all her planning, that she would actually travel to another world!
One moment, she was enjoying a delicious set meal of goose leg, ice-cold cola, and other treats, and the next moment, she found herself in a tragic situation with a broken leg.
Clearly, not everyone can handle sudden wealth.
Fortunately, her space for storing billions worth of supplies was still there, or else she would have been crying her eyes out.
Lin Xiaodou had crossed into a world she had once seen in a novel about the fake and real rich daughters during the 70s.
The story depicted the struggles between a fake rich daughter and a wealthy son who, after many hardships, finally end up together.
On the surface, it was a period drama, but in reality, it was just a rehashed plot of a CEO romance filled with melodrama.
Why do I say this?
The novel began with a stereotypical storyline.
The fake rich daughter saved the male protagonist in a dark alley, and the two then met and fell in love.
But not long after, their relationship faced obstacles from the male protagonist’s family because the fake rich daughter’s true identity was revealed.
It turned out that she wasn’t from a prestigious medical family at all—her real father was just an ordinary worker at a canning factory.
Meanwhile, the male protagonist was the son of the general manager of a department store, and he himself was a truck driver with a relatively wealthy background.
The two were from completely different social classes and couldn’t possibly be together.
Originally, this kind of drama might have been difficult to resolve, but unfortunately, the true rich daughter was not very competent.
When she returned, she not only wanted to steal the male protagonist from the fake rich daughter but also had plans to kick her out of the family.
Comparing the true rich daughter—who was rude and sinister—the male protagonist’s family naturally preferred the fake rich daughter, and in the end, they accepted her as the right choice.
The malicious real rich daughter, who continuously sabotaged herself, was eventually disliked and abandoned by everyone, ending up a tragic death.
After this part of the plot, it seemed that the male and female protagonists would finally live happily ever after.
But to everyone’s surprise, a second female lead, the “white moonlight,” appeared.
After dealing with the second female lead, a deeply affectionate second male lead emerged. Soon after, other female and male characters appeared, and the plot just continued with misunderstandings, chasing, and escaping.
In the end, after all the trials and tribulations, the male and female leads finally got married and had children, leading to a somewhat “perfect” ending.
Lin Xiaodou never actually finished reading it.
When she saw that the true rich daughter with the same name and surname as herself had died, she couldn’t continue. The whole plot just felt too exhausting.
Not to mention other things—just the storyline of the real rich daughter made her speechless.
The true rich daughter was switched at birth.
The fake rich daughter took her place and received royal-like treatment, while the real daughter had to work from a young age, enduring constant scolding and disdain.
As she grew up, she managed to secure a job and establish a foothold, only to find herself being forced to marry a violent fool in his thirties in exchange for a high bride price to fund her lazy brother’s wedding.
Later, after resisting, she was beaten so severely that she lost her eyesight, and she was “rescued” by her real father.
The true rich daughter thought she had finally found salvation, but to her shock, it led to a deeper abyss.
Her real father wanted her to take the fall for the crimes committed by the fake rich daughter and go to prison.
Feeling betrayed, the real rich daughter proposed two conditions:
As soon as she proposed this, everyone was furious.
They scolded her for being delusional and malicious, saying she was not even worth a single hair of the fake rich daughter, and that it was she who should leave, not the other way around.
Upon hearing this, the true rich daughter’s heart sank further.
She later made some irrational decisions, causing everyone to despise her.
Eventually, the male protagonist used some tricks to send her to a farm, where she lived a miserable death.
When the news of her death reached home, her real father felt no sadness; instead, he felt relieved.
They sighed: “This child was ruined from childhood by that living situation. Her personality was dark and unlikable. If only she had been as obedient and sensible as Xuefei, she wouldn’t have ended up like this.”
“She’s dead, and good riddance. She got what she deserved.”
Lin Xiaodou: ????
Is this something a real father could say?!
What kind of nonsense is this?
To highlight the fake rich daughter, they deliberately painted the true rich daughter as the villain.
But in reality, all her malice was a result of how everyone treated her step by step.
Lin Xiaodou felt that this novel was morally wrong, so she stopped reading it.
At the time, she thought, if she were the true rich daughter, she would never have foolishly sought out impossible family love.
She originally thought it was just a typical melodramatic novel.
But she never expected that one day, she would actually cross into the body of the true rich daughter—originally named Yuan Qian.
The story had already progressed to the point where Yuan Qian still didn’t know her true identity.
Her adoptive family locked her in her room to force her to marry the fool, but she tried to escape in the middle of the night and fell from a second-floor window, breaking her leg.
Currently, Yuan Qian was recovering at home, but no one treated her like a patient.
Her adoptive father had gone to work, and her older brother was just lazing around, so all the household chores fell to Yuan Qian.
Not only did she have to stand on crutches to cook and do laundry for the family, but she also had to endure endless scolding.
Today, while bringing some thin rice porridge to the table, she accidentally spilled some, and was harshly scolded by her adoptive mother, Wu Guiqin, who even punished her by not allowing her to eat dinner.
Yuan Qian returned to her small room, feeling more and more miserable and wronged. Years of labor and hunger had built up in her heart, and she suddenly fainted.
At that moment, Lin Xiaodou crossed into her body.
After absorbing Yuan Qian’s memories and the plot in her mind, Lin Xiaodou sighed.
In truth, deep down, Yuan Qian had always longed for family love and wished someone would care for her.
So, when her true identity was revealed, she cautiously tried to please everyone.
She even wanted to be like the fake rich daughter, making everyone like her.
But unfortunately, she was disappointed.
She never got what she wanted until her death.
Because Yuan Qian was not a daughter of the family, she became cannon fodder, easily discarded.
And now… this pitiful cannon fodder was her.
Lin Xiaodou’s eyes glimmered, gradually becoming clearer.
Since she had arrived, everything would change.
Yuan Qian couldn’t fight back, but she could!
She wouldn’t let go of anyone who had bullied Yuan Qian.
“Xiaodou, don’t worry. I will avenge you.”
“I will live on for both of us and live happily.”
After speaking these words, Lin Xiaodou suddenly heard a sigh in her mind.
“Thank you… I’m so tired… I’ll go first… you take care…”
In that moment, Lin Xiaodou felt lighter all over.
Yuan Qian had truly left…
