Chapter 6 – You Dare Defy Me?!
After taking the Divine Strength and Body Reinforcement Pill, Lin Xiaodou experienced a miraculous transformation.
All her hidden ailments were cured!
Even her previously fractured left leg was completely healed!
Her complexion was no longer sallow—it now had a healthy rosy glow!
And that’s not all.
Her body felt immensely powerful!
She felt strong enough to punch an ox to death!
And Lin Xiaodou wasn’t just thinking that—she acted on it.
With a thought, she summoned a large yellow ox that had been grazing peacefully.
With a single punch, the ox was launched into the air.
The yellow ox spun three and a half times in midair before crashing to the ground, unconscious.
Ox: ???
What did I do to deserve this?!
But Lin Xiaodou wasn’t satisfied with just punching an ox.
She wanted to test her strength even more.
She walked out of the wooden cabin, and with one hand, lifted the entire massive cabin off the ground.
“Woohoo!”
Her eyes lit up like fireworks.
This divine power—amazing!
Feeling excited, Lin Xiaodou ran off to try lifting the stone houses nearby.
No effort at all—they were light as feathers.
She lifted one in each hand and could still dance the Subject Three while doing it.
Ecstatic like a child, she went around lifting everything in sight.
She practically turned the whole space upside down.
“This won’t do. It’s still not satisfying. I need to test it on people!”
After taking a hot shower and changing into a fresh set of clothes, she exited the space.
She was still wearing the original host’s old clothes, with a bandage wrapped around her leg to keep up appearances.
Opening the door, she limped out of the room.
In the living room, Lin’s father, Lin Guoqiang, was sitting on the couch reading a newspaper and listening to the radio.
Lin’s mother, Wu Guiqin, was lowering her head, sewing insoles and working on cloth shoes.
Her older brother Lin Dawei was in front of the mirror, posing and preening his newly slicked-back hair with pomade he’d bought from the supply and marketing cooperative.
When they saw Lin Xiaodou come out, neither her father nor her brother spared her a glance.
Only Wu Guiqin snorted through her nose.
“You wretched girl, so you finally decided to show your face! Get in there and wash the dishes! If they aren’t clean, you won’t get any food tomorrow!”
The original host had led a miserable life, and Wu Guiqin was the biggest reason why.
She was mean-spirited, aggressive, and quarrelsome. She’d fought with nearly every neighbor around and was infamous in the area.
Because the original host was a girl, Wu Guiqin had despised her since birth, often calling her a money-draining burden.
She’d even laughed and egged people on when others mocked or insulted her daughter, which only encouraged them to bully her more.
And now, even though she didn’t yet know that Lin Xiaodou wasn’t her biological daughter, she’d still tried to marry her off to a violent madman.
That alone proved just how cold-blooded and ruthless she was.
Lin Xiaodou had absolutely no psychological burden dealing with people like her.
Never mind that Wu Guiqin wasn’t her real mother—even if she was, her past behavior was enough to justify killing her several times over.
“What are you standing there for? Still not washing the dishes?! You want a beating?!”
Wu Guiqin raised her head, clearly annoyed.
Only to be met with Lin Xiaodou’s murderous gaze—and froze.
Why did this damn girl’s eyes look so terrifying?
Was she… mentally unhinged?
Just as the thought crossed her mind, she noticed the horrifying face staring back at her.
Her expression changed instantly.
“You wretched girl! Why are you showing your face like that?!
Don’t you know how terrifying you look?! Get back inside and wrap it with a scarf!
If you scare people again, I’ll beat you to death!”
Lin Dawei had just finished styling his hair.
His short hair was parted down the middle and plastered to his scalp, making him look both greasy and ridiculous.
But he didn’t see it that way. He smugly declared:
“Lin Xiaodou, don’t you dare tell people you’re my sister.
I’m so handsome—girls used to want to get close to me, but the moment they see you, they run away terrified.
If it weren’t for you, this ugly freak, I’d be married by now.”
Lin Xiaodou glanced at him and sneered:
“With your squinty eyes, ox-sized nostrils, buck teeth, and lanky monkey frame, you call that handsome?
You can’t get married because you’re ugly as sin. Blame your parents for making you this way!”
Lin Dawei was 21 and hadn’t studied since junior high. He spent his days loafing around outside.
The only reason he had such a carefree lifestyle was because there were three breadwinners in the family.
Lin’s father and mother worked at a canning factory, and Lin Xiaodou was a temp at a brick and tile factory.
It was 1970—the movement to send urban youth to the countryside was in full swing.
Countless young people were answering the call, volunteering to go to the countryside and work.
But lazy and pampered since childhood, Lin Dawei had no intention of going.
According to policy, each household had to send someone, unless everyone was either employed or married.
Getting a job was impossible for Lin Dawei—he was useless. So marriage was the only way out.
But in the past two years, all the blind dates arranged for him had failed.
The girls he liked didn’t like him back.
He was ugly and jobless—who would marry that?
But he refused to see the truth and insisted he was amazing, blaming Lin Xiaodou for his failed matches.
Every time he saw her, he’d call her an ugly freak and tell her to get lost.
Earlier this year, when they heard the local street office was going to force people to the countryside, Lin’s parents panicked.
They didn’t want their precious son to suffer, so they set their sights on Lin Xiaodou.
Originally, the plan was to have Lin Dawei take over Lin Xiaodou’s job and send her to the countryside.
But then a matchmaker brought news—someone was willing to pay 300 yuan in betrothal money to marry Lin Xiaodou.
In that era, 300 yuan was a fortune!
Overjoyed, the parents immediately agreed.
The family in question? A widow with a 30-something mentally challenged son.
The son had already been married twice—one wife he beat to death, the other he crippled and was taken back by her family.
This time, the widow set her sights on Lin Xiaodou because she had finished junior high and had a job at the brick and tile factory.
Otherwise, with her horrifying appearance, no one would want her.
Even though the matchmaker hinted the guy had violent tendencies, Lin’s parents didn’t care.
They were desperate to resolve their son’s situation, and this was the perfect solution.
As for their daughter? A money-draining burden anyway. Marrying her off to a madman was doing her a favor.
The 300 yuan could go towards their son’s wedding.
With that kind of dowry, any girl would be impressed—they’d be begging to marry into the family!
Once Lin Xiaodou was married and pregnant, she’d stay home, and her job would go to Lin Dawei.
With a wife and a job, their son’s future would be secure—a win-win!
Lin’s parents thought their plan was flawless.
But they never expected their usually obedient daughter to rebel.
Not only did she run away and break her leg, now she even dared talk back!
Lin Dawei and their father were stunned, but Wu Guiqin reacted the strongest.
She threw the insole she was sewing onto the sofa and slapped Lin Xiaodou.
“You dare defy me?! Talking back to your brother—do you have a death wish?!”
