Chapter 14 : Rescue

Hearing the sound of someone searching downstairs, Yun Siying quickly pulled the man into the room, wiped the blood off the floor, sprayed some perfume to cover the smell of blood, and erased the traces on the window before finally breathing a sigh of relief.

She had just finished putting on her clothes when the search team reached her door. They knocked and shouted, “Open the door! A suspicious person has broken into the guesthouse. For everyone’s safety, please open the door and cooperate with our search.”

“Wait, wait a minute,” Yun Siying replied, her voice a little frightened. Those outside could hear her panicked footsteps. As soon as she opened the door, they rushed in, scanning every corner of the room. They opened the wardrobe, pulled aside the curtains to check outside, and even looked under the bed. After searching thoroughly and finding nothing, they exited the room and said, “There’s no suspicious person here. Thank you for your cooperation, comrade. You can rest easy.”

“Comrades, thank you for your hard work,” she said with a smile, watching them leave. She then closed the door and entered the space. Looking at the man, his chest was soaked with blood. She gently unbuttoned his clothes to check the wound. He had been shot in the chest, and using her mental power to examine him, she discovered the bullet had narrowly missed his heart, only three centimeters away.

She considered herself lucky. This man was not meant to die, and now that he had encountered her, she would save him to the end. She knocked him out with drugs, used her mental power to extract the bullet, and applied her wood-based healing ability to stabilize him.

Then she sprinkled hemostatic and anti-inflammatory powder on the wound, wrapped it with gauze, and wiped his face clean. He had a tall, upright figure, and the green military uniform made him stand out even more broad shoulders, a slim waist, long legs, perfect proportions, as if made for the uniform. With sword-like eyebrows, starry eyes, a high nose bridge, and slightly pursed thin lips, his features revealed a subtle determination.

This soldier was truly handsome. She admired his looks for a while, then added a bit of sleeping powder to make sure he wouldn’t wake up inside the space.

After that, she went to bed. At dawn, she re-entered the space to check on him and confirmed he had no fever and was still unconscious. She then left the space and walked around the guesthouse to ensure no one was tailing her.

She had breakfast at a state-run restaurant and then went to an abandoned courtyard in the west side of the city. She found a relatively clean spot, laid down fresh straw, brought the man out, and sat nearby waiting for him to wake up.

Bored from waiting, she pulled out the novel she hadn’t finished reading the night before, sat cross-legged on the straw, and resumed reading. Sometimes she frowned, sometimes the corners of her mouth curled, and at times her eyes turned red, her expressions constantly shifting with the story.

As soon as Nangong Ruoyi opened his eyes, they were sharp and alert. But when he saw the cute little girl from the compound, he was surprised. She had grown up and was still so beautiful but seemed to have become quite bold.

Yun Siying sensed the moment he woke up. She put the book into her messenger bag, looked at him, and said, “Comrade, you’re awake.”

“Where am I?” He wasn’t sure if Yun Siying recognized him, but he clearly remembered that he had broken into a guesthouse to rendezvous with his comrades last night. His injuries had been too severe, and he lost consciousness after climbing into the room.

“This is an abandoned courtyard in Jinyuan. You climbed into my room last night and almost scared me to death. Just remember that I’m your savior. Considering you’re a soldier, I’ll charge you less,” Yun Siying said.

“Comrade, have you seen my officer’s ID?” Nangong Ruoyi asked with a smile.

“Of course I did. Who would dare to save someone without first confirming their identity? What if the person you saved was a bad guy? Wouldn’t that bring trouble to both the country and yourself?” Yun Siying rolled her eyes and said.

“You’ve thought it through carefully, but I don’t have any money on me right now. When I recover from my injury, I’ll send you the payment when I go home, okay?” Nangong Ruoyi didn’t expect her to be so short on money. Wasn’t she always well-favored at home?

“Not bad, pretty good. Here are some antipyretics, anti-inflammatory medicine, and powder for wounds. There are instructions on how to use them,” Yun Siying handed him three more packets of medicine she had prepared for going to the countryside. Then she scratched her head, took out a lunch box from behind, and said, “This is the porridge I bought for you.”

Nangong Ruoyi sat up slowly and took the lunch box. He was really hungry. His eyes swept over Yun Siying’s beautiful face, and his gaze softened. “Thank you, I’m really a little hungry.”

He knew that this girl was engaged to Shen Subai in the compound. The two grew up together as childhood sweethearts, and she especially liked Shen Subai. He hadn’t been back to the military compound for many years and didn’t expect her to have grown so graceful and beautiful.

After Nangong Ruoyi finished eating, Yun Siying stood up and said to him, “Since you’re awake, I should be going.” She took her lunch box and put it in her military green messenger bag.

“Comrade, you haven’t told me your name or address yet, so I can pay you for mailing,” Nangong Ruoyi said, watching Yun Siying as she was about to leave, wanting to see if she would give him her information.

“Forget it. If we meet again in the future, I’ll ask for your reward then.” After saying that, she walked out of the yard, opened the door, stepped outside with one foot, then turned back to look at Nangong Ruoyi and said, “Remember to close the door when you leave.”

Then she turned her head, took a second step, turned around, and closed the door. Nangong Ruoyi’s view was blocked inside the door. He picked up the medicine on the haystack and smiled silently.

He didn’t expect this girl to be so capable. She had actually managed to help him escape those pursuers safely and even removed the bullet from his body. It seemed she had grown a lot in the past few years. He guessed how dangerous the location of his gunshot wound was.

This girl was good in every way, but her eyesight was poor. Why did she like Shen Subai, a boy who hadn’t accomplished anything? Such a pity. No, why was that girl living alone in the guesthouse? Did something happen to the Shu family?

After Yun Siying left, she went straight to the supply and marketing cooperative and bought two cans of malted milk, four pounds of cakes, and a sewing machine. After leaving, she walked to a secluded spot and put the sewing machine into a space in an empty alley. Looking at her watch, it was already ten o’clock in the morning. She had to go to the military compound to thank Aunt Jiang and Aunt Li, who had taken her to the health center that day.

Watching the occasional bicycles and buses pass by on the street, she resigned herself to her fate, went to the bus stop, and took the bus to the military compound. When she arrived in front of Jiang Xianmin’s house, she knocked on the door, and soon the door opened.

Jiang Xianmin looked at Yun Siying standing in front of her house holding a cloth bag and was a little surprised, so she greeted, “Siying is here, come in and sit down.”
