Chapter 15 : Weird Grandparents‘
“Okay, Aunt Jiang.” Yun Siying and Jiang Xianmin entered the yard. As soon as the door closed, she handed the bag in her hand to Jiang Xianmin and said, “Aunt Jiang, I came today to thank you and Brother Minghong for your help that day. Otherwise, I might have lost my life.”
“Child, we’ve watched you grow up, so it’s only natural to help you. You can take these to replenish your body. When you get better, you’ll suffer less in the countryside.” Jiang Xianmin pushed the cloth bag back toward Yun Siying, not wanting to accept it.
“This is a small gift from me, far less than the life-saving kindness you showed me. You must accept my little gift. Don’t worry, I earned 1,000 yuan from my work, enough to get by in the countryside.” Yun Siying’s tone was very firm.
“Good child, Aunt Jiang will accept it. Wait, I’ll cook you a bowl of noodles.” Jiang Xianmin saw Yun Siying’s firm attitude and accepted the thank-you gift so she could feel at ease about her going to the countryside.
“No, Aunt Jiang, I’ve already eaten, so I won’t bother you. Aunt Li should still be at home now. I’ll visit her too. I’m heading to the countryside the day after tomorrow,” Yun Siying said with a smile.
“Siying, Aunt Jiang won’t keep you then.” Jiang Xianmin saw the anxiety on her face and smiled, feeling sorry deep inside. This was a child who knew gratitude, what a pity.
Yun Siying left the Jiang family and went to the Li family to give a thank-you gift before walking out of the military compound. Standing in front of the gate, she looked back at the compound, thinking she would never come here again, so she took a last look on behalf of the original owner.
Hungry, she went to the state-owned restaurant and ordered a portion of mapo tofu, a portion of braised pork, and a bowl of rice. Not to mention, the food in this era was green and environmentally friendly, with no additives or growth hormones, pure and delicious in taste.
She breathed in the aroma of the food and began to eat. As the food entered her mouth, she squinted happily and ate with great enjoyment.
“Grandma, I want to eat braised pork. Please make that loser give me the meat,” a chubby boy said, about seven or eight years old standing nearby with an old lady.
When the people around heard the boy’s voice, they quickly moved away and hid their meat and vegetables. It was really unreasonable for the grandparents and grandchildren to hog all the meat.
“Hey, my eldest grandson is really good. Wait, grandma will have that loser give you the braised pork,” the old lady said, glancing at Yun Siying with a pair of droopy triangular eyes.
With that, the grandparents and grandson came to stand on Yun Siying’s left. The old lady put her hands on her hips and raised her chin, saying, “Little comrade, didn’t you hear that my grandson wants to eat meat? Why don’t you get out of the way and let my grandson enjoy it?”
Yun Siying glanced at the grandmothers and grandson and said, “I heard it.”
“If you heard it, then why don’t you get up and move aside quickly? Don’t you see my eldest grandson is hungry?” the old lady said as if it were the most natural thing.
“Tsk, you said he’s your grandson, not mine. How can I, a stranger, be responsible for his food and drink?” Yun Siying said, stuffing another piece of braised pork into her mouth.
“How come you, little comrade, don’t know how to respect the elderly and love the young? You’re just enjoying yourself and eating well all by yourself,” the old lady said angrily.
“Old lady, by your logic, all comrades who eat braised pork are hedonists,” Yun Siying replied slowly.
“Old lady, what nonsense are you talking about? Since your grandson wants braised pork, why don’t you buy it for him? Why make the female comrade give it to you? She has no responsibility or obligation to do so,” said some comrades nearby who wanted to buy braised pork immediately.
The old lady looked at Yun Siying, a young girl, and thought she was too soft-hearted and embarrassed to argue with her. She was sure the girl would give up the braised pork, just like other female comrades had in the past.
The little chubby boy grew impatient and reached out to grab the braised pork in front of Yun Siying. Yun Siying quickly slapped the back of his hand.
“Wooo, grandma, this loser won’t give me meat to eat and even hit me! Grandma, come and beat this loser to death!” The boy’s hand was red and he cried loudly, not forgetting to complain.
“You little brat! How dare you hit my precious grandson? I’ll beat you to death!” The old lady, seeing her precious grandson hurt, glared angrily at Yun Siying and ready to scratched her face with both hands.
Yun Siying quickly turned sideways, grabbed the old lady’s hands with her own white hands, making her unable to move. Her eyes were cold and sharp. “You call me a little loser, so what does that make you, an old loser?”
After saying that, she pushed the old lady with both hands, making her squat on the ground. She stopped looking at the grandmother and grandson and resumed eating her food. If she delayed any longer, the food would get cold and lose its flavor.
“Oh my God! I won’t live anymore! This is bullying an old powerless woman like me and hurting my precious grandson. Where is the justice in the world?” The old lady howled, while the onlookers who knew the truth began to murmur among themselves.
Only Yun Siying remained unaffected, continuing to eat her food. The old lady’s shouting and the boy’s crying did not disturb her.
Some people couldn’t stand it any longer and said, “Little comrade, it’s just a plate of braised pork. Just give it to the child. No one can eat with all this commotion.”
Yun Siying then looked up and glanced at the female comrade who spoke. She then turned her gaze to the chubby boy and said, “Little fat boy, stop crying. This kind auntie wants to treat you to braised pork. Go to her.”
Hearing that he could have meat, the boy immediately stopped crying, ran to the female comrade, and tugged at her clothes. “Auntie, I want to eat meat.”
The old lady, who was still wailing on the ground, also stopped instantly. She realized this female comrade was tough and wouldn’t get anything by causing trouble.
She got up and quickly walked over to the female comrade who had spoken up for them. “Comrade, you’re kind and know how to respect the old and love the young, unlike some people who have no manners at all. We just need one braised pork, one braised fish, and two large bowls of rice!”
“No, when did I say I would treat you to eat meat and dinner?” The female comrade immediately panicked. She had only said a word on their behalf. And she herself couldn’t bear to eat meat!
“Comrade, I heard it, and I heard it clearly. Don’t you think so, old lady, little fat man?” Yun Siying finished the last piece of meat on her plate, smiled at the female comrade, and said.
“Yes, yes, we, the grandmother and grandson, heard it too. Don’t lie to me, an old lady, comrade.” The grandmother and grandson pestered the female comrade, not letting her leave.
Yun Siying quickly stood up and left, not caring about what happened next. She didn’t like people who were overly generous to others, and she thought they deserved to learn their lesson well.
