Chapter 89 : Taking Out the Bullet
Yun Siying clearly saw how alert and defensive the two men in the cave were. As she approached the entrance, she called out, “Nangong Ruochen, Han Yuecheng, are you in there?”
When the two heard her familiar voice, their tense bodies immediately relaxed. Nangong Ruochen quickly appeared at the cave entrance. Seeing the person he had been thinking about, a mix of joy, fear, and relief surged in his heart.
“Siying, why are you here?”
“I was worried you two might get eaten by wild animals, so I came. Don’t worry, I’ve already given the message to Chen Banghua,” Yun Siying replied, noticing the smell of blood and glancing at Nangong’s thigh, which had been crudely treated.
“Siying, this mountain is dangerous. You shouldn’t have come up here at this time. We have weapons, so you don’t need to worry,” Nangong Ruochen said. Although he was happy that she cared about him, he didn’t want her to take risks especially with enemy spies possibly still in the area. If she ran into them, the consequences would be unimaginable.
“Nangong’s right. This mountain isn’t safe. Didn’t you hear the gunfire today? If something like that happens again, you have to put your safety first. If something happened to you because of us, we’d never forgive ourselves,” Han Yuecheng added worriedly.
“I can take care of myself. Let’s go back into the cave. I’ll remove the bullets for you both,” Yun Siying replied.
The two looked at each other and then led Yun Siying back into the cave. The firewood inside crackled softly, casting a dim but warm light throughout the cave.
Yun Siying took out a military dagger, a pair of scissors, a bottle of white liquor, white cotton cloth, and a bag of silver needles from her backpack. The silver needles were something she had picked up for free in her previous life. Once she had everything ready, she said to Nangong Ruochen, “Come here, I’ll take the bullet out first.”
Nangong Ruochen was touched to see she had come so well-prepared. Glancing at his wounded thigh, he blushed slightly, feeling a bit awkward about the position he had to lie in. But he didn’t hesitate, he trusted her inexplicably and lay down on the hay without protest.
Yun Siying inspected the wound, then used the scissors to cut away a large section of his pants, exposing the injury. She gave him a few injections in the thigh, disinfected the area with the liquor, then used the dagger to extract the bullet. She applied hemostatic and anti-inflammatory powder, then wrapped it up with the cotton strips. Her movements were steady, clean, and skilled.
Han Yuecheng, who had been worried, was stunned. He hadn’t known Siying knew medical skills and was so good at them.
“Okay, your turn, Han Yuecheng,” Yun Siying said.
“Siying, I didn’t expect you to know medicine,” Han Yuecheng said with relief as he sat down obediently.
Yun Siying repeated the procedure, efficiently removing Han Yuecheng’s bullet, treating and dressing the wound. She handed each of them a pill and a water bottle. “Trust me, take this medicine.”
The two took the pills with water without hesitation. Han Yuecheng asked, surprised, “Siying, you only gave me a few injections, I didn’t feel any pain when the bullet came out. But now that the numbing effect is wearing off, it really hurts. I didn’t expect you to be this good at medicine!”
“I’m self-taught,” Yun Siying said with a smile. “I used to practice on animals.”
Han Yuecheng and Nangong Ruochen were both astonished. They’d become her “test subjects” without even knowing it. Still, her medical skills were clearly better than some hospital doctors, she didn’t even need anesthetic to remove bullets!
Yun Siying washed her hands with water from the kettle and pulled out some steamed buns and beef sauce. “Time to eat.”
She broke open a bun, scooped two spoonfuls of beef sauce onto it, and took a bite. It tasted great. ‘If only the steamed buns were warm,’ she thought, it would taste even better.
The two had eaten steamed buns before, but when they smelled the aroma of the meat sauce, they couldn’t help but eat a few more.
“You two should rest. I’ll keep watch tonight so I can monitor you in case you develop a fever,” Yun Siying said, standing up as she looked at the two injured men.
“Siying, thank you for your hard work. You’re truly my savior. From now on, you’re my real sister,” Han Yuecheng said sincerely.
“Rest well and regain your strength. You’ll need it to leave the mountain tomorrow,” Yun Siying replied.
“Siying, thank you for everything.” Nangong Ruochen handed his pistol to Yun Siying. He was also worried that someone might find their hiding spot.
“You should get some rest too,” Yun Siying said as she took the pistol and began cultivating her supernatural abilities. At the same time, she kept her mental senses alert monitoring the two men as well as the movements within a two-kilometer radius outside the cave.
An hour later, she felt a weight on her shoulder. She turned her head to see Nangong Ruochen resting his head there. Under the glow of the firelight, his cold and handsome face appeared gentler than it had during the day. He looked so peaceful.
Yun Siying raised her hand, then put it back down. ‘Considering he’s injured and unconscious, I’ll let him be for now,’ she thought. Then she continued to cultivate her powers. In the depths of the mountains, the wood-element energy was much denser, and she was able to absorb more of it than ever before.
Nangong Ruochen hadn’t actually fallen asleep at first, he had just wanted to test Yun Siying’s reaction and tolerance toward him. He pretended to sleep and leaned on her shoulder. When he felt her raise her hand, he was a bit disappointed. But when she gently let it fall without pushing him away, he was overjoyed.
Just leaning against her made him feel warm and relaxed. Without realizing it, he really did fall asleep.
At around one o’clock in the morning, Yun Siying sensed eleven people entering her psychic detection range. Although they were dressed in plain clothes, their posture and bearing clearly marked them as soldiers. Among them was someone she recognized, Chen Banghua. It seemed he had found reinforcements.
As the group neared the cave, Yun Siying knew they had followed the markings she and the others had left. She reached out and gently nudged Nangong Ruochen awake. The moment he opened his eyes, they were as sharp as a hawk’s. But when he saw Yun Siying, they instantly softened.
Before he could speak, Yun Siying said, “Chen Banghua and his men are almost at the entrance.”
Then she stood up, walked toward the entrance of the cave, and hid behind a rock. “Who’s there?” she called out.
Chen Banghua, surprised to hear her familiar voice, quickly calmed down and replied, “Siying, are you in there?”
Yun Siying recognized the voice and stepped out from the cave. “It’s me. Are you here looking for Nangong and the others?”
“Yes. But why did you come up the mountain alone? That was really brave of you. Did you run into any danger?” Chen Banghua asked with concern. He had come to regard Yun Siying as a friend.
“I’m fine. Nangong and Han Yuecheng are in the cave,” Yun Siying said.
Then, a magnetic voice spoke up. “My savior, I didn’t expect to meet you again.”
Yun Siying turned to look and saw a man who bore a striking resemblance to Nangong Ruochen. She was a little surprised. “It’s you.”
“Little Siying, what’s the matter? You still haven’t remembered who I am?” Nangong Ruoyi’s eyes lit up as he saw her.
Hearing his brother’s voice, Nangong Ruochen walked out of the cave, beaming. For some reason, he felt like his thigh injury had improved significantly it might’ve been an illusion, but it brought him hope.
