Chen Nian took three seconds to accept the fact that the teacher had someone else in mind.
There wasn’t really anything to feel down about; who would actually want Shavri to be a private tutor, right? Surely not!
He was more interested in the opportunity to meet a new Alpha.
“Got it,” Chen Nian replied lazily, “Can’t you trust me just a little?”
“I’m just reminding you, it’s not that I don’t trust you.”
As the day went on, Shavri calmed down, and it was as if both of them had forgotten the awkward situation from the night before; neither brought it up again.
“Just focus on your classes. I have some things to take care of today and probably won’t be back until evening. If you want to go out, I’ll take you then.”
Chen Nian responded with a “Okay.” Once Shavri saw there were no other questions, he quickly left the classroom. He had originally been in a hurry but had taken the time to come by.
So, Shavri had spent the whole day yesterday personally selecting a teacher for him?
It was hard not to feel touched that someone cared about his matters so much.
Chen Nian let out a long breath, just as he heard a knock on the classroom door.
He hurriedly sat up straight and adjusted his state of mind. It was all Shavri’s fault for wasting his feelings just now.
After three polite knocks, his real private tutor walked in.
He was a young Alpha, looking to be in his twenties, with black hair and black eyes, and a gentle demeanor. His features weren’t as sharp as Shavri’s; he had a kind of handsome that was non-threatening, subtly charming. At first glance, he might not be stunning, but the longer you looked, the more appealing he became.
He had a scholarly air about him, which was rare among the current beacons, and Chen Nian could tell right away that he must be quite capable as a teacher.
The Alpha stood in front of Chen Nian, bowing respectfully without being overly formal, his voice as gentle as Chen Nian had imagined:
“Your Highness, I am your private tutor, Chu Xun. I will be teaching you in the days to come.”
“Hello, Teacher,” Chen Nian replied obediently, “You don’t have to be so polite.”
“It’s my honor to teach Your Highness,” Chu Xun said warmly.
Yesterday, the Crown Prince had specifically gone to the most prestigious school in Cinnabar to select suitable male Alpha teachers, spending the entire day doing so. In the end, Chu Xun was the last one standing.
After reviewing everything, he figured his advantage was probably just being slightly better than another teacher.
After being selected, Chu Xun learned he would be giving private lessons to the Prince Consort.
Hearing this news left Chu Xun stunned; he didn’t understand why an Omega Prince Consort would need an Alpha teacher when there were many excellent Omega teachers at the school, and even Beta teachers would be more suitable than him.
To be safe, Chu Xun had also subtly asked about it, worried that some inappropriate situation might arise, especially since he was teaching the future Prince Consort.
But the Crown Prince assured him it was fine.
Chu Xun could only suppress his confusion.
With only one night to prepare for the lessons starting the next morning, he was grateful that the Crown Prince had provided him with some information about the Prince Consort to help him prepare as best as he could.
The Prince Consort’s name was Chen Ci, the only son of the hero Marshal Chen Wei. He had been raised in the White Tower for eighteen years, rarely making an appearance, and had now moved to the Royal Palace to continue his studies.
As for his personality, the materials didn’t mention anything, and Chu Xun didn’t dare to ask too much; after all, he was the Prince Consort. He would have to wait until they met in person to figure things out.
“I heard from the Crown Prince that you haven’t decided on a direction for your further studies yet.”
“Yeah, I’ve lived in the White Tower and haven’t had much exposure to the outside world, so I’m not really sure what the various subjects are like.”
Chen Nian’s response was spot on; the ideal state of many subjects was completely different from reality. He wanted to learn a bit more before making a choice, which was perfectly reasonable.
For example, in the computer industry, documentation often took longer to write than the actual programs, and many programmers spent their lives just doing menial tasks for the beacon, which was a supercomputer.
In today’s world, where space was extremely limited, architecture and civil engineering jobs had long been completed by the predecessors who designed and built Cinnabar, leaving graduates unable to find work.
Geology had become a profession filled with disappointment, truly deserving of the title “sewer.” There was simply no land left for them to explore and study!
The only promising fields left were marine science, aerospace, materials metallurgy, and engineering.
However, Chen Nian didn’t have any pressure regarding employment, so he could freely study whatever interested him.
Chu Xun said, “In today’s first class, I’ll introduce you to the current state and content of various subjects, and you can think it over before making a choice.”
The faint sense of disappointment in Chen Nian’s heart vanished without a trace; his teacher was clearly a serious person, and he was curious about what their interactions would be like.
Chu Xun opened a virtual screen and stood in front of Chen Nian, beginning to explain the characteristics of each subject in detail.
After listening for more than ten minutes, Chen Nian started to feel drowsy.
This was the boyfriend candidate that Shavri had carefully selected for him; he absolutely couldn’t fall asleep in the first class!
With that thought in mind, Chen Nian forced himself to stay alert.
He shifted his gaze to Chu Xun’s face; maybe some good looks would help wake up his dull brain.
As Chu Xun continued speaking, he noticed that Chen Nian was staring at him.
After a couple more sentences, he couldn’t help but ask, “Your Highness, is there something on my face?”
“No,” Chen Nian replied with an embarrassed smile, “I rarely see other people, and now that I’ve met my teacher, I just want to remember your appearance more clearly.”
He fidgeted with his fingers, clearly feeling shy about saying such things.
Chu Xun understood; the materials about Chen Ci had mentioned that the Prince Consort had lived in the White Tower since childhood, with strict restrictions on outings. Meeting a stranger must be quite a novelty for him.
Chu Xun smiled gently, putting down the laser pointer he had been using, and walked down from the podium to pull up a chair to sit across from Chen Nian.
“Since that’s the case, why don’t we get to know each other better? Speaking of which, I haven’t introduced myself in detail yet.”
Now that they were closer, Chen Nian realized that Chu Xun had sprayed some kind of cover scent all over; he couldn’t smell any Alpha pheromones, but it must have been a very gentle fragrance.
Chu Xun briefly introduced himself; he was born in the upper farming area of Cinnabar, and his parents were researchers working in the laboratory area. He had received a good education from a young age and, after living up to expectations, was admitted to a top-tier institution, eventually becoming a teacher.
“I still don’t know how well you grasp your knowledge, Your Highness,” Chu Xun said gently. “I originally planned to wait until all the subjects were introduced and do a small test in the second class.”
“I’ve forgotten a lot of the things I learned.”
Chen Nian answered honestly; he couldn’t pretend to be more knowledgeable than he was, or he would be exposed as soon as he was asked: “Even if I learned something in the White Tower, there wasn’t really a place to apply it, so over time, I just gradually forgot.”
“I see,” Chu Xun said, understanding. “Then let’s do a test. If there are any areas you don’t understand, I’ll explain them to you from the beginning, okay?”
“Sure.” Chen Nian agreed verbally but sighed inwardly.
He had graduated from high school a few months ago and hadn’t looked at any books since. Although his memory was quite good, how much could he really remember? Chen Nian hadn’t counted.
Chu Xun pulled up the test paper he had prepared overnight for the Prince Consort, and the virtual screen unfolded in front of Chen Nian. As he looked at the rows of formulas and chemical symbols, he started to feel a headache coming on.
“Teacher, could you sit next to me?”
Facing Chen Nian’s request, Chu Xun hesitated for a moment and asked, “Why?”
Chen Nian felt a bit embarrassed as he said, “When you sit across from me, I feel like someone is watching me, and it’s a bit uncomfortable.”
That made sense. Chu Xun ultimately moved to sit beside Chen Nian, but kept a decent distance; after all, he was the future Prince Consort, and as an Alpha, he had to avoid any misunderstandings.
Chen Nian finally started working on the problems, trying hard to recall the knowledge he had heard in class before. He remembered a bit, at least enough to fill in the blanks, regardless of whether it was right or wrong.
If anyone thought that Chen Nian would settle down and start studying seriously, they were being too naive.
As he was writing, Chen Nian suddenly lost grip of his stylus, which fell onto the desk and quickly rolled off, landing on the floor.
The pen bounced once on the ground and rolled to Chu Xun’s feet.
Just as Chu Xun was about to pick it up, Chen Nian was quicker.
The boy braced himself against the desk and leaned down, reaching out his arm directly toward the stylus that had finally stopped under the chair.
Chen Nian’s fair arm peeked out from his slightly wide sleeves, slipping through the space between Chu Xun’s legs. His long fingers fumbled on the carpet for a moment before finally grasping the stylus and pulling it into his palm.
As Chen Nian was about to straighten up, he had leaned down too far, and his whole body felt like it was folding in half, making it a bit difficult to rise.
Instinctively, he grabbed onto the Alpha’s neatly pressed pants beside him for support, finally managing to get up.
While grabbing Chu Xun’s pants, the boy didn’t quite gauge the strength right and accidentally brushed against the Alpha’s calf. His fingers slid along the contour of the leg through the fabric.
The sudden touch made Chu Xun shiver.
But Chen Nian seemed completely unaware; he lifted his head, his face flushed from the blood rushing back after leaning down.
He smiled at Chu Xun, said nothing, and turned back to continue working on the problems, as if it were just a minor interruption.
In fact, it was indeed just a small incident.
However, Chu Xun caught a faint scent in the air. At the moment Chen Nian lifted his head, the aroma of the pheromones broke free from the constraints of the neck ring, wafting through the air with the rising body temperature.
The floral scent of the evening primrose made Chu Xun momentarily dazed.
He forced himself to steady his mind, resolutely blocking out any inappropriate thoughts.
But the Omega’s pheromones exuded a deadly allure, silently tempting the Alpha.
Chu Xun’s rationality was battling against his instincts, and he didn’t notice the fleeting smile that appeared at the corner of Chen Nian’s lips at that moment.
Without a doubt, Chen Nian had completely different sides to him in front of different people.
In front of Gudes, he was the strong son of the Chen family, enduring many grievances and injustices;
In front of Antonio, he was the Prince Consort, struggling to endure a life of loneliness under his fiancé’s indifference, mustering the courage to seek true love;
In front of Chu Xun, he was a naive and innocent new student, filled with curiosity about the world but unable to explore it himself.
Hmm, this new teacher seems pretty good.
Shavri really was reliable enough.
