Ultimate Natural Disaster: Starting Over from Zero and Hoarding Millions in Supplies! Chapter 22

Chapter 22: Underwater Supermarket—0 Yuan Shopping (Part 2)

The warehouse Summer Xiaoman was in was relatively large. The main entrance was a double door, wide enough for four people to swim through at once.

At that moment, she was crouched above the center of the double doors.

After about five minutes, both doors were suddenly kicked open. A person swam in from the center and, without hesitation, fired a spear gun upwards at Summer Xiaoman.

But she had anticipated this. Just as the doors were kicked open, she had already pulled out a pile of heavy goods and shelves from her storage space.

The moment the attacker turned and fired, all they saw was a wall of shelves. The spear was completely blocked.

By the time they realized and tried to retreat, the shelves had already sealed off the way out, trapping them entirely.

Summer Xiaoman turned on her dive light and peered through the gaps between the shelves to locate the three intruders. Then she pulled out a long stick, tied a dagger to the end, and began stabbing at them through the gaps.

Only when she confirmed that they were dead beyond doubt did she put the shelves away and begin looting.

Their diving gear was intact. Though second-hand, it was still valuable—especially the spear gun, an effective underwater weapon. No way she’d let that go to waste.

She also acquired a fishing net, the same one those guys had used to gather supplies. It wasn’t big, but it would do.

She continued exploring the supermarket but didn’t find the lockpicker again. Instead, she stumbled upon the pharmacy section and collected a good stash of medicine.

Most of the other supplies were either completely soaked and unusable or just not that useful—for example, cookware and dishes. She already had several spare sets in storage, so there was no need to gather more.

After checking the whole area and finding nothing else worthwhile, she decided to leave.

On her way out, she passed by a few groups of people. Maybe because she wasn’t visibly carrying anything, they ignored her.

When she surfaced, she realized the situation on the water had changed.

The people in the motorized boat looked grim, staring tensely at the water’s surface. Meanwhile, those who had previously been wary of the boat were now moving toward it.

The group in the kayaks appeared to be gradually getting surrounded.

As for the inflatable fishing boat—it had changed owners. Several bodies now floated on the water, and the muddy surface was tinged red.

Wen Jianfeng, who had agreed earlier to stay near the crowd for safety, had distanced himself and now sat calmly alone in a kayak, like a lone fisherman watching everything unfold.

Summer Xiaoman locked onto Wen Jianfeng’s position and dove back into the water, swimming in his direction.

Splash—

As she surfaced, the first thing she saw was Wen Jianfeng’s knife.

Before she could react, the knife was retracted.

“Xiaoman?! Sorry, I thought someone was attacking. My bad, my bad,” Wen Jianfeng said apologetically, reaching out to pull her aboard.

Summer Xiaoman removed her diving gear. “Coach Wen, didn’t you say it was safer to stay with the crowd? Why are you here alone?”

He helped her stow the gear and began rowing. “Right after you went under, the people in the kayaks got into a fight with those in the motorboat.”

“They said the motorboat crew was being tyrannical, guarding the supermarket entrance and refusing to let others in. The ones on the motorboat had spear guns and were acting all arrogant. The two sides were arguing like crazy.”

“Then, apparently two people from the kayak group went missing. They insisted the motorboat crew killed them. It almost turned into a full-blown fight.”

“But soon after that, the motorboat group also had people go missing. They thought it was the kayakers’ doing. So both sides started fighting.”

Summer Xiaoman: “…”

If she guessed correctly, the two people who had initially followed her must’ve been from the kayak group, and the four she killed later were probably from the motorboat.

“What happened next? Why’d they stop fighting?” she asked.

Wen Jianfeng pointed to the inflatable fishing boat. “Someone tried to play both sides—but didn’t expect to be ambushed themselves.”

Apparently, a third group on the rubber boat had hoped to benefit from the two sides fighting and steal the motorboat. But they got killed instead, and someone else snatched their opportunity.

Everyone else figured that both the motorboat and kayak groups had suffered losses and thought they had a chance to steal one of the boats. So they started approaching, preparing to ambush.

Realizing this, the two main groups paused their fight—knowing continuing would only benefit the onlookers.

“Did anything happen to you underwater? Are you okay?” Wen Jianfeng asked.

Summer Xiaoman shook her head. “I’m fine. I stashed a batch of supplies.”

She pointed toward a quieter area nearby. “Over there. Let’s go quietly and pick them up. Once we’ve got them, we leave.”

Wen Jianfeng looked surprised. “I thought you came back empty-handed.”

So many people had gone underwater to scavenge, some even with malicious intent. He was already impressed she came back unharmed—he didn’t expect her to have hidden supplies too.

They quietly paddled to the spot. Summer Xiaoman handed Wen Jianfeng four climbing ropes with carabiners, then dove back into the water. She retrieved the fishing net stuffed with goods and clipped it to the ropes.

When she surfaced, she had Wen Jianfeng try pulling the load up.

He tugged—and almost fell out of the kayak. “Just how much did you get?! It’s so heavy!”

Summer Xiaoman frowned. “Too much, maybe. Open the backup kayak and inflatable mattresses. If we combine them, we should be able to carry everything.”

Wen Jianfeng glanced at the nearby crowd. “No, it’ll attract too much attention.”

After thinking for a moment, Summer Xiaoman dove back into the water. Soon, she surfaced with a spear gun.

“If anyone tries to steal the goods, use this.”

Wen Jianfeng’s eyes widened. “W-Where did you get that?!”

“Don’t worry about it. It works.” Summer Xiaoman climbed back into the kayak and pulled several inflatable mattresses and a folded kayak from her bag.

From a distance, some people noticed them stacking the mattresses to form a floating platform. Then they set up another kayak to secure the platform between the two boats.

Some sharp-eyed folks immediately realized they must’ve found supplies. Otherwise, why go through all that trouble?

Meanwhile, Summer Xiaoman dove again.

The fishing net was too full for Wen Jianfeng to lift, so she had to reduce the load and bring it up in batches.

Watching the piles of goods, people nearby began to get ideas.

Wen Jianfeng noticed a raft drawing closer but didn’t shout or try to drive them off. He just kept focused on pulling up supplies.

When the lead raft was only five meters away, Wen Jianfeng suddenly let go of the rope, pulled a knife from his waist, and threw it straight at the man on the raft…
