50. The Little Glutton Spirit and Yan Nanshan
This time, the research institute didn’t disappoint. The improved detection device they sent actually had some effect.
The personnel from the Violation Handling Department ran all over the city with the detection device. Every now and then, news would come in saying that they had spotted Uriel. It was like a city-wide relay race.
Uriel was chased from one end of the city to the other. He would hide his presence for a moment, then circle back and run again. It was unclear whether it was the personnel from the Violation Handling Department chasing the demon or the demon treating them like dogs on a leash.
Clearly, Zhong Lishu didn’t have complete confidence in the products from the research institute. He secretly contacted the Little Glutton Spirit and asked for their assistance.
As an ancient monster who had experienced countless cycles of reincarnation, the Bai Ze, the Little Glutton Spirit, had a deep understanding of life and didn’t care about matters outside of his own interests.
Just like when Song De had asked Bai Ze to treat Yan Ling, Bai Ze didn’t care about the complicated matters involving the Vampire Clan and the Center. As long as it didn’t interfere with his work at the hospital, he would casually treat them. Even if it wasn’t necessary, he would still put up a show. He never asked any more questions.
Regarding the matter with the demon, Bai Ze had already done his part by informing Zhong Lishu that he had encountered the demon before. Now, if they wanted his help, even Zhong Lishu would have to put in some effort.
“I hate dealing with the Zhong family’s people the most!” A little girl wearing Lolita clothing pulled the fringe shawl that slipped from her shoulder and took the small umbrella from the bodyguard’s hand, walking angrily towards the villa.
It was Qiu Rong who opened the door for her.
As a Little Glutton Spirit who had traversed through multiple lifetimes, her current strength was not as great as before, so she needed to have a rough idea of the demon’s whereabouts before finding someone.
At this moment, Uriel had disappeared again, and everyone was waiting for news from the Violation Handling Department.
Instead of going home, Bai Ze sent Zhong Lishu, the sickly young man who had flirted with her, back home and decided to visit Yan Ling instead.
Yan Ling and her little boyfriend were still flipping through ancient books in the old mansion.
Rong Xiaoxin composed herself and transformed back into an elegant lady.
She entered the room, lifted the hem of her skirt, and performed a medieval lady’s courtesy towards Yan Ling, who was sitting in the living room. Unfortunately, Vincent was currently working at New Moon Media, so there was no one to indulge her peculiar taste.
“Your Highness, can’t you cooperate a little?” Rong Xiaoxin’s anger flared up again. She pulled out a lace fan from her waist and opened it, fanning herself to cool down. The two strands of hair near her temples were blown upwards by the fan.
Rong Xiaoxin’s bodyguard, wearing a pair of black sunglasses, stood outside the door, looking serious and showing no intention of following her inside. Qiu Rong closed the door and returned to the living room. Seeing the deadlock between the two, he took the initiative to make a knight’s gesture, placing his left hand on his chest and returning the gesture to Rong Xiaoxin.
Rong Xiaoxin opened her fan with joy, took two steps forward, and looked up and down at Qiu Rong. “Oh dear, you must be the leader of the Wolf Clan. You truly are handsome and elegant, no wonder you made our Prince suffer. Well done, young man.”
Qiu Rong: “…”
He hadn’t fully processed it yet. “What do you mean by ‘made the Prince suffer’?”
Rong Xiaoxin tapped him with her fan. “The blood carriage incident! The Prince was robbed of a batch of blood by your Wolf Clan. He’s so hungry that his Sharingan is about to pop out.”
Qiu Rong: “…”
He turned around and saw Yan Ling giving him a cool glance.
Rong Xiaoxin continued to mutter about witnessing a rare occasion of Yan Ling being speechless and wanting to give Qiu Rong a big red envelope.
Qiu Rong quickly invited the lady to sit on the sofa.
However, the lady looked around and asked, “Do you have a cat at home? There are so many cat toys. Where’s the cat?”
Qiu Rong: “…”
He couldn’t tell if Rong Xiaoxin was doing it on purpose or not, but she hit the nail on the head.
“We used to have one, but not anymore,” Qiu Rong cautiously replied.
“Oh…” Rong Xiaoxin sighed with regret. “I thought I could pet a kitty.”
She sighed again. “Vincent isn’t here either, so I can’t have afternoon tea.”
“You won’t starve if you miss one meal,” Yan Ling said coldly.
Feeling uneasy, Qiu Rong stood up. “I’ll make some desserts. Let me prepare.”
Qiu Rong hurried into the kitchen, taking a deep breath.
He was caught off guard by bringing up old matters.
No wonder Zhong Lishu always had a meaningful expression when mentioning the Glutton Spirit. Although the Glutton Spirit wasn’t young anymore, it still had a mischievous and playful demeanor, like a little girl.
In the living room, the two of them exchanged a few sarcastic remarks, and then the conversation shifted to Uriel and the matter of supplying blood to the Vampire Clan. Qiu Rong overheard a couple of sentences and, seeing that they didn’t seem inclined to fight, he closed the door with relief and started peeling an apple.
Yan Ling glanced at the kitchen and asked Rong Xiaoxin, “Is Jiang still at the company?”
Chairman Jiang is the president of the Rong Sheng Group and Rong Xiaoxin’s lawful husband.
Rong Xiaoxin nodded, “Yes, do you need something from him?”
“No,” Yan Ling said, “I’m just curious and wanted to ask you.”
Rong Xiaoxin wondered, “What could you possibly want to ask me?”
Ignoring Rong Xiaoxin’s sarcastic tone, Yan Ling said straightforwardly, “Chairman Jiang can live for at most a hundred years.”
Rong Xiaoxin looked even more puzzled, “Yes, that’s true.”
Yan Ling continued, “After a hundred years, he will be gone, what about you?”
“I will continue to eat well, drink well, and enjoy life,” Rong Xiaoxin turned her head thoughtfully to look at the closed kitchen door, “Are you worried about him?”
“He wants to become a vampire,” Yan Ling didn’t say much, but Rong Xiaoxin understood what he meant.
“He’s afraid you’ll be lonely, so he wants to accompany you?”
Yan Ling nodded.
Rong Xiaoxin was confused, “Isn’t that a good thing?”
Yan Ling said, “What if he regrets it later?”
“Regrets what? Regrets being with you? Then he can find a new life. If he feels he has lived for too long, he can find a place to rest in peace,” Rong Xiaoxin knew what Yan Ling wanted to say, and she said, “You’re afraid that the feelings you have now will become chains in the future.”
Yan Ling thought about it and felt that it was indeed the case.
Rong Xiaoxin smiled and said, “In my opinion, you’re just overthinking.”
“It’s not even a hundred years yet, why worry about things so far ahead?” Rong Xiaoxin pointed at Yan Ling with her fan from a distance, “What’s important is not the ending, but the process. Whether it starts or ends, it’s all up to fate. Don’t miss the genuine feelings of the present just because you fear the uncertain future.”
“Learn to enjoy life, little bat.”
Yan Ling: “…”
Sure, she made her point, but why call him a little bat?
The sweet aroma of apples drifted from the direction of the kitchen, the smell of sugar melting and coating the apples, and Rong Xiaoxin leaned against the back of the sofa, “Is he making caramelized apples?”
Yan Ling got up and said, “You stay here, I’ll help.”
Rong Xiaoxin sneered, “Can you even cook? Don’t tell me you’re going to poison me!”
Qu Rong was indeed sautéing apples, but not for caramelized apples. He was preparing an apple pie.
Seeing Yan Ling enter, he smiled and said, “Here to help?”
Yan Ling replied with a sound of acknowledgment and walked over to his side, glancing at the golden apples in the pan, “She said you’ll cook if she asks?”
Qu Rong’s lips curled up, and he leaned over to steal a kiss from Yan Ling, saying, “Made it for you. I was planning to make it in the afternoon. The dough is already kneaded. Can you get it from the refrigerator for me?”
“That works,” Yan Ling nodded in satisfaction.
After the sautéed apple filling cooled down and the dough was pressed into the mold, Qu Rong fed Yan Ling the excess apple filling with a spoon. It was so sweet that the Crown Prince wrinkled his face, and Qu Rong commented that he looked like a little kitten.
As a result, he got a smack.
The oven operated for twenty minutes, and the aroma of the apple pie quickly filled the whole house.
There were no European-style teacups at home, so they had to use tea bowls as a substitute. Apple pie with green tea seemed a bit mismatched, but the little gourmet, Qiu Rong, was quite pleased with today’s afternoon tea. The green tea served as a good balance to the sweetness of the apple pie.
“Well, with this afternoon tea, I don’t feel like I’ve been shortchanged.”
Desserts bring joy to people’s moods. Rong Xiaoxin satisfactorily put down her fork and asked Yan Ling, “Still no news?”
Yan Ling glanced at his phone and shook his head.
Rong Xiaoxin sighed, “Can that stalker-like demon, really get the job done? Don’t let me make this trip for nothing.”
After lousy bird and rat, Uriel had gained another unflattering nickname.
With the sun setting and the sky growing darker, Uriel, who had been hiding for a while, truly seemed like a creature that couldn’t stand the light, starting to move in the darkness of the night.
The person monitoring Uriel’s movements quickly reported to Yan Ling.
Rong Xiaoxin stretched lazily and got up in a sluggish manner.
The black-clad bodyguards outside the villa were squatting next to the Maybach, eating boxed meals. When they saw Rong Xiaoxin coming out, they all stood up.
They even wiped their mouths.
Rong Xiaoxin: “…”
She had forgotten.
Indeed, she didn’t expect it would take this long.
Seeing Qu Rong nod, Rong Xiaoxin said, “You all can go inside and eat, take a rest for a while. We should be able to leave soon.”
The three of them arrived in the deserted backyard of the villa. Rong Xiaoxin stood in an open space, facing the direction where Uriel was lurking.
A faint glow appeared on her forehead, and Rong Xiaoxin slowly closed her eyes. An ancient totem extended from under her feet and connected with something unseen.
Yan Ling was staring at the continuously incoming messages on his phone, his brows slightly furrowed.
Uriel had started urban parkour again and was gradually approaching their direction.
A faint light enveloped Rong Xiaoxin as she formed a few hand seals. Qu Rong noticed that Rong Xiaoxin’s expression suddenly changed.
“Something’s not right.” Rong Xiaoxin suddenly opened her eyes. “What date is it today?”
“August 11th, lunar calendar… the 14th day of the seventh month,” Qu Rong replied.
“The Ghost Gate is about to open.” The locations in the replies on her phone were getting closer. Rong Xiaoxin said, “There is a Ghost Gate nearby.”
Qu Rong seemed to have a hunch.
In Yannan Mountain.
“At Yannan Mountain.”
The place where the Gu family encountered Uriel fifteen years ago.
The author has something to say:
Halfway through writing, I suddenly realized that she’s wearing a little dress and standing on a magic array, isn’t she!!
Next second, Little Glutton Spirit: Oh, the key hiding dark power (bushi)
