“I’d like to see how you, Su Xiaoqing, manage after the divorce, going against both families’ wishes. Without support and without the company, how will you survive?”
The Su and Su families had been close for generations, with Su Xiaoqing handling most of the company’s responsibilities due to Su Ming’s mismanagement. Now that she was seeking a divorce, the company would inevitably fall into his hands, and he would be free to block her name, making it impossible for her to continue her life here.
Su Ming had already planned his way out.
He called out to Li Yang twice, but Li Yang didn’t follow, instead standing still and saying, “Uncle Su, you go ahead and be with Su Qin. I’ll have a word with Auntie and come down afterward.”
Su Ming snorted, assuming Li Yang wanted to avoid offending either side and had a few kind words to say. He didn’t want to linger another moment and went downstairs immediately.
The two of them were left alone, staring at each other.
Su Xiaoqing stood at the door, blocking the small window and Li Yang’s view.
After a moment of silence, Su Xiaoqing spoke first, her tone cold: “Are you happy now?”
Li Yang’s voice was hoarse. “I didn’t expect it to turn out this way.”
“No matter what, it’s over between you two.” She waved her hand weakly. “You should leave as well. I won’t let you see her again. From now on, she’ll be far removed from your world.”
“Isn’t that what you wanted?”
Li Yang was speechless. Was this really what he had wanted?
Then why did he feel no joy?
Su Xiaoqing continued, “You’re no longer her husband. Her actions are no longer your concern. Li Yang, I know I’ve wronged you before, but over these years, you’ve taken your revenge on Wanwan. She’s endured pain she didn’t deserve.”
“She’s let go of you now, and she won’t come looking for you again.”
With every word, Li Yang’s heart sank deeper, as if each step was cutting off all ties and possibilities.
From now on, they would be like two crossing lines—near but infinitely distant, never to intersect again.
“You’ll never be Wanwan’s husband again. You may be someone to anyone else, but never to her.”
With these final words, Su Xiaoqing gave him a cold look and closed the door to the hospital room.
“…”
Staring at the closed door, Li Yang suddenly felt a wave of sadness, even though he himself found it inexplicable.
It was as if he had just realized he had made a grave mistake, a choice he couldn’t take back, and now he could only watch helplessly as reality diverged from his intentions.
He wanted to explain himself, but his pride wouldn’t allow it. He stood there, expressionless, in silence for a long time, until finally, he turned and left.
But for some reason, ever since signing the divorce papers, a dull ache had throbbed in his heart, like a drop of hot oil splashing on his finger—scalding, burning, and unsettling.
And from now on, every time he raised his hand, he would see the scar left by that hot oil, a mark that would never fade.
Li Yang faced it coldly.
Or rather, he forced himself to ignore the discomfort.
It was simply a feeling of unfamiliar loss. In a few days, he would completely forget the name Su Wan.
Staring at the two signatures on the divorce agreement, he pursed his lips and told himself this.
…
When Su Wan woke up, a day had already passed.
Su Xiaoqing was half-leaning on the bedside, and, startled, she choked back a sob as she called her name excitedly.
“Wanwan, Wanwan, you’re awake!”
“Mm…”
“You silly child!” Su Xiaoqing couldn’t hold back her tears any longer. “Was it worth it for them?”
Su Wan rubbed her chest, feeling a lingering fear. She had almost thought she’d failed her mission and would have to leave this world. She looked up at the weary Su Xiaoqing, a gentle smile on her lips, her gaze soft and clear.
“Don’t worry, I’ll live well.”
