At this time, Su Wan was happily at home, living like a carefree “slacker,” only responsible for eating and relaxing each day.
Su Xiaoqing’s career was gradually recovering, and thankfully, the entertainment company she had invested in previously was back in business, with several former trusted assistants returning to work under her leadership.
The company wasn’t large, but it was bustling with success.
As Su Xiaoqing put it, working for herself meant all the earnings went to her, and nothing could be more satisfying.
Watching her improve day by day, even more radiant than before, Su Wan felt genuinely happy.
If the original Su Wan could see all this now, she would surely be thrilled.
Since leaving the past behind, life had been filled only with peace and happiness.
“Wanwan, could you help Mom with something?”
Su Wan, peeling an orange while lying on the sofa, looked up, “Sure.”
“Mom wants you to shoot a promotional video for the company.”
Su Xiaoqing’s film company was doing well, but the only big names in her roster were Su Wan, who wasn’t promoting anything, and Wen Chenyue, who was perpetually MIA.
The rest of the actresses were beautiful, but none had caught their big break.
People even said her company was just a place to “house the pretty vase” named Su Wan.
Su Wan smiled.
“Well, how about we use the ‘vase’ theme?”
“Oh? Tell me more!”
This time, the company planned to shoot a promotional video with a female-centered theme called Beauty in a Vase.
The next day, Su Wan arrived at the set in high spirits, only to be greeted by a pair of resentful eyes.
Su Wan: “…”
“Director Meng, long time no see!” she laughed awkwardly.
“If you’d stayed away any longer, I would’ve thought you’d moved to Mars!”
Director Meng grumbled.
Beauty in a Vase would consist of three short stories set in ancient, modern, and contemporary times.
The storyline was simple, and since Xu Wan wanted to avoid more of Director Meng’s nagging, she gave an exceptionally dedicated performance and quickly finished the shoot.
In the video, the ancient beauty is playing with a cat while a maid combs her hair; the beauty in a cheongsam applies her makeup, her profile subtly illuminated; and the contemporary beauty, dressed in ivory silk pajamas, lounges lazily by the bedside, her elegant hand plucking a begonia from the window and placing it in a glass vase.
Each era showcased a different, stunning beauty, making it hard to look away.
Then, all three beauties looked up simultaneously, as if they’d heard something, and their expressions suddenly changed.
The ancient beauty’s eyes welled with tears, on the verge of crying and laughing, with a touch of despair.
The cheongsam beauty gazed toward the door with a calm, resolute acceptance of her fate.
The woman in pajamas gave the camera a half-smile, her fierce gaze piercing the screen, sending chills down viewers’ spines.
With a light push, the vase fell and shattered on the ground, the broken jade echoing like a sudden wake-up call.
The scene ended.
Viewers, cold sweat on their backs, snapped out of their daze and exploded with reactions—many had previously criticized Su Wan’s drama for low standards, but now they were stunned by her powerful acting in this short video!
Without any narration, in different settings, without any co-stars helping her set the tone, she portrayed three distinct emotions:
The wife receiving news of her husband’s death in battle, swallowing her sorrow as the matriarch; the cheongsam beauty calmly awaiting death with a tragic serenity; and the indolent “canary” in silk pajamas, about to face abuse, revealing a dignity that would rather be shattered than degraded.
Su Wan’s acting—absolutely electrifying!
Even more surprising, the final credit listed the actress as “Xu Wan” rather than Su Wan.
This clearly signaled her disassociation from the Xu family.
The stock price of Su Xiaoqing’s company soared that same day. She hadn’t anticipated such a sensational reaction from a promotional video.
From that moment, everyone knew Qingwan Media—named for the mother-daughter duo.
“Graceful as a soft breeze, with eyes full of charm.”
