Still, she gently chided, “Don’t say that. She’s my sister. Keep your mouth shut—there are crew members everywhere.”
“Don’t worry about me.”
The assistant joked as she opened the car door and stepped out under an umbrella, only to see groups of staff happily holding hot drinks and snacks, in stark contrast to the usual gloomy atmosphere.
Sensing something was off, she frowned and said to Su Qin, “Why does today feel…”
“You’re finally here! Everyone’s waiting to start shooting!” A familiar crew member happily approached with milk tea. “Hurry to makeup—the rain’s about to stop, and we’ve got outdoor scenes soon!”
Su Qin’s perpetually calm expression finally cracked a little.
“What do you mean?”
“Su Wan came really early today and brought everyone milk tea, along with tons of snacks and treats. We’re so lucky! I saved some for you in the makeup room too, Sister Qin. After you’ve had some, you can get to work.”
So, the staff they had passed earlier were all holding the food and drinks that Su Wan had bought.
Assistant Cheng saw Su Qin’s displeased expression and immediately shot the staff member a glare. “You’re so easily pleased just because you got some free food? How petty.”
“Xiao Cheng!”
Su Qin gave a warning, quickly calming herself, and told her assistant to go to the makeup room to start getting ready.
As the two walked away, they didn’t notice that the smiling staff members had instantly spat in disgust, their faces full of disdain.
“Petty? Aren’t they the ones using bottled water to win people over? Now that they can’t outdo her, they’re pretending to be noble!”
…
Under the umbrella, Assistant Cheng cautiously asked while avoiding the busy crew, “Qin Qin, what about the bottled water and bread we brought today…?”
Recalling the brightly colored packaging the others had been carrying, the bottled water they brought now seemed insignificant.
Su Qin’s face remained emotionless, her long nails digging into the skin between her fingers, the sharp pain helping her suppress the rising anger inside.
“Don’t bother handing it out. Everyone’s already full, so they won’t have an appetite.”
She paused for a moment and added, “Go check out the set. I’ll head over once I’m done with makeup.”
Assistant Cheng caught her meaning right away. “Got it!”
In the makeup room, a few makeup artists and stylists were gathered in a circle, happily chatting over their milk tea. When Su Qin walked in, they scrambled to sweep the pile of snacks off the table and into bags.
“Sister Qin is here!”
“Let’s start your makeup quickly, the director’s been urging us to hurry.”
Normally, when Su Qin arrived early, she would be showered with compliments, but today, there were only hurried exchanges as everyone rushed to finish their tasks.
Su Qin had the face of a classical beauty, her features delicate yet carrying an air of pride, like a plum blossom standing strong in the cold—impossible to ignore.
She quietly focused on her script, simply waiting for Su Wan to embarrass herself later.
What good did it do to arrive early?
What difference did bringing food make?
Director Meng was famous for his strictness in training new actors. If he liked someone, and they worked well together, they were sure to shine. The key was whether he liked them, and whether the actor was willing to cooperate.
She had encouraged her father to get Director Meng involved for this very reason.
Someone like Su Wan—stupid and short-tempered—would blow up after just a couple of scenes.
It wouldn’t be surprising if, by the end of the day, the gossip about Su Wan storming off after fighting with the director would hit the trending topics, completely ruining her reputation.
Thinking of this, Su Qin closed her eyes slightly and gently said, “Make the lip color a little lighter.”
She might need to step in as an example during the scene rehearsals.
Author’s note:
Su Qin: “I don’t think it’s possible.”
Su Wan: “I think it’s possible. It’s definitely possible.”
