Su Wan turned and left, ignoring the varied expressions of the two people behind her.
…
In the nanny van, upon hearing the news, Xiao Zheng widened his eyes in disbelief, repeating, “The lead role went to Su Qin?”
“Oh.” Su Wan took out the script and calculated again, suddenly feeling cheerful. “In that case, I can finish filming in just two or three weeks!”
That’s great.
No need to struggle or be bruised up on set—Su Wan was overjoyed.
Seeing her carefree smile, Xiao Zheng felt a sudden sting in his eyes, his voice unconsciously tinged with tears: “You’re the real daughter; why does it have to be this way?”
Seeing him distressed, Su Wan gently reassured him, “Everything that should be will come to be, and what shouldn’t be, should not be forced. If they want it, just give it to them; it’s not anything crucial.”
Not talking about it was better. The more she comforted him, the more depressed he felt, making him feel worse than if he were the one wronged.
Xiao Zheng angrily said, “The production has already started. Aren’t they afraid of being criticized for doing this?”
“There must be a legitimate reason for it. For example, I could say I got injured on set and can’t continue, so I have to suggest Su Qin take on the lead role.”
“With my bad reputation, giving it to her makes everyone happy, right?”
Xiao Zheng felt a pang in his heart, unable to say anything.
Though Su Wan could be willful, she had never done anything to actively hurt others. Why did everyone prefer that fake and insincere Su Qin?
Could it be that they were all blind?
“Sis, if you’re unhappy tonight, I’ll drink with you until tomorrow. Who cares about filming? It’s all nonsense!” he said passionately.
Su Wan firmly declined, “I never stay up late. I want to go home and sleep.”
Xiao Zheng: “…”
He figured that soon enough, that pair of cheap father and daughter would start showing off.
Su Wan lowered her head and sent a message to her mother.
“Mom, I’m not playing the lead anymore. Filming doesn’t require this much money. Can we withdraw the investment?”
She didn’t care how they thought; she only felt pity for the mother who truly cared about her original daughter.
Money did not mean much to her, but spending it on Su Qin was completely unnecessary.
…
That night, the news of “Su Wan being replaced as the lead in ‘City of Colors’” surged to the top of trending topics.
Both parties’ studios released statements, saying that Su Wan had been injured while performing stunts and, given the action-heavy role, she could not continue filming. After discussion, they decided to swap roles with Su Qin to avoid delaying the production.
This decision would not affect the filming schedule.
As soon as the news broke, everyone was in an uproar.
Fans who had previously complained that Su Wan would ruin a good production were thrilled, celebrating wildly overnight.
Director Meng and the male lead, Wen Chen, remained silent on social media, not sharing or commenting, which led to a rise in some discordant remarks.
“How could Su Wan willingly step down to the second female lead? No way! I just started shipping her looks…”
“Even the director and male lead haven’t said anything; I’m not picking a side just yet.”
“I can testify as a background worker on set that Su Wan is very dedicated. She filmed from morning to night yesterday; it doesn’t seem like she’s injured to the point of being unable to move!”
“Word on the street is that someone has withdrawn their investment in this production.”
“Honestly, I’m suddenly looking forward to her playing the lead. What a pity…”
“Same here, the trailer looks quite good…”
The entire internet was imagining whether Su Wan was crying under the covers all night.
What no one expected was that the person involved was lying in bed, sleeping soundly and carefree.
“Click.”
The door opened, and Li Yang returned home draped in the night, standing in the hallway to change clothes.
He wasn’t sure if it was just his impression, but Aunt Wang’s attitude seemed noticeably colder today. There was no smile like usual; she just stood nearby and asked if he wanted to eat.
Li Yang frowned slightly.
He walked down the corridor, which felt eerily quiet. Today, having returned home early, he clearly knew someone was likely going crazy at this hour, yet he still came back with a sense of inexplicable emotion.
Perhaps he just wanted to see if she had been crushed by the anger she had been pretending to brush off for days.
“Where is Su Wan?”
Li Yang’s gaze swept through the corridor, landing on the tightly closed bedroom door.
Aunt Wang quickly stepped forward, politely blocking his way, intentionally preventing him from approaching.
“Madam is in a bad mood today and went to rest early; it’s better not to wake her.”
Her tone carried a hint of barely concealed resentment.
Clearly, she was complaining that everyone was bullying Su Wan.
Li Yang’s lips pressed together, his feelings unexplainably complicated.
