“Lu Zhisen, didn’t you say you used to drive a tractor in the neighbouring production team, and you drove it very well? Why did you crash into the wall now?” Lu Dazhou said angrily, “We finally got the tractor approved for our team, and you want to damage it? So when we go to deliver the public grain in a few days, are you going to carry it on your shoulders?”

“It’s not like that.” Lu Zhisen was usually a little tyrant at home. Even his father had never scolded him like this before. He was filled with indignation, but he panicked at the thought that he might have damaged the tractor. He hastily said, “I was just trying to avoid that pit, and I only lightly touched the wall. Who knew it couldn’t withstand even that. It’s not my fault, blame it on the old grain warehouse.”

Lu Dazhou couldn’t be bothered to listen to his explanation and said, “Quick, see if the tractor can still move.”

“Okay.” Lu Zhisen immediately returned to the tractor, but after fiddling for a while, the tractor showed no response at all.

Lu Dazhou watched, his face as dark as the bottom of a pot. At this time, nearby villagers heard the loud noise and came out. He randomly pointed to someone and shouted, “You, quickly go call Lu Che over.”

“Why call that good-for-nothing?” Lu Zhisen immediately objected.

“Not to call him to fix the tractor, do you plan to fix it?” Lu Dazhou shouted directly, leaving Lu Zhisen speechless.

“Quick, see if there’s anyone in the youth dormitory.” Someone in the crowd suddenly suggested.

Only then did Lu Dazhou remember this. He inwardly cursed and then heard Jiang Yao coming out from inside, saying, “I’m the only one in the youth dormitory, and I’m fine.”

“That’s good as long as you’re okay.” Lu Dazhou breathed a sigh of relief and then mobilised everyone to clean up the pieces of wall that had fallen on and around the tractor.

The villagers cherished this tractor very much, so they didn’t slack off now, and they all joined the ‘rescue’ operation.

Jiang Yao also went over to help, and with everyone working together, they quickly cleaned up and then stepped aside to wait.

“Lu Che is here!” Jiang Yao stood in the corner and saw Lu Che walking towards them in a hurry. When he glanced in her direction, it seemed like he paused for a moment, but it was fleeting, and she thought it might have been her imagination.

“Lu Che, take a look quickly.” Lu Dazhou patted his shoulder.

Lu Che nodded and then went to check the front of the tractor. He brought his own small toolbox and began to dismantle the outer shell of the engine with wrenches and screwdrivers.

“Hey, don’t dismantle it randomly, what if you break it?” Lu Zhisen scolded.

Lu Dazhou heard this and gritted his teeth, “Shut up, the one who’s breaking the tractor now is you.”

“That’s right. Whenever there’s something wrong with our team’s tools or horn, Lu Che always fixes them. If he can’t fix this tractor, who else in our team can we rely on?”

“If your skills aren’t good, but you still insist on driving the tractor, if Lu Che can’t fix it, you’ll be the culprit of our team.”

Some villagers spoke up for Lu Che, which made Lu Zhisen’s face turn red and then black.

Ignoring everything around him, Lu Che continued to work on the old and dirty tractor.

After about half an hour, the tractor started up again with a rumble, and the villagers breathed a sigh of relief, their faces breaking into smiles.

Lu Dazhou was the same. He patted Lu Che’s shoulder and said, “Kid, I knew you could do it. If you don’t mind, can you drive this tractor back to the grain warehouse for me?”

Lu Che remained calm and shook his head, saying, “I don’t know how to drive it,” and then left with his toolbox.

As Lu Zhisen cautiously drove the tractor back to the grain warehouse, Lu Dazhou’s heart was still in his throat. The wall of the youth dormitory collapsed at random. It was fine that no one was hurt today, but if one night everyone was asleep and the house collapsed, it would be the loss of twelve lives. Even if Lu Dazhou spent his whole life in prison, he wouldn’t be able to come out.

Lu Dazhou couldn’t sit still anymore. He immediately went to the youth dormitory and told everyone, “I’m very sorry that the new youth dormitory hasn’t been built yet, but I really can’t help it. However, after today’s incident, it’s clear that the old grain warehouse can’t be lived in anymore.

“In the next two days, everyone go find villagers to discuss. It’s best to find someone willing to accommodate you. If not, I’ll make arrangements later. In any case, make sure you move out by tomorrow night.

“Furthermore, I know some of you are siblings or have very close relationships, but to avoid burdening the farmers, don’t let two or more people stay with one farming household. Understand?”

“Understood.”

Everyone agreed, and Lu Dazhou went back.

After he left, everyone began to discuss enthusiastically. Jiang Yao sat in the corner, lost in thought.

Although she didn’t have a place to stay, the thought of possibly having her own room in the future made her unable to contain her excitement.

Finally able to move out of this collective dormitory, Jiang Yao decided that she must find a single room to stay in. To avoid trouble, she couldn’t stay with the troublesome families, nor with those with too many residents.

To facilitate future sideline businesses, she couldn’t choose households with bustling entrances and constant visitors. It would be best if they were solitary families.
