Chapter 28: Shen Man Is Your Daughter?
The old man looked significantly older overnight.
“What about them—”
“She doesn’t want to.” Qu Muqing said in a low voice.
“But—”
“Brother, it’s her child. Why is she so biased toward Shen Man?” Qu Wanwan mocked.
Qu Muqing rubbed her head, comforting her: “Wanwan, one less person to love you means you have the entire Fu family.”
Qu Wanwan turned her gaze to Gu Lan, who was busy in the kitchen, her eyes filled with happiness.
“Brother, I’m lucky to have married Fu Ciyu.”
“Mm, I know. In the entire capital, only Ciyu can take care of you properly.” Qu Muqing agreed.
“You’re the same—” Qu Wanwan looked up at him, speaking earnestly.
“Ha, when did you become so good with words?”
“In my heart, my brother will always be the best—”
“Good.”
At lunch, the entire restaurant was filled with people.
“Today is a good day. Come, let’s toast.” Gu Lan said happily.
“Come, everyone raise your glasses.” The old master also raised his glass.
“Grandpa, drink less, you’re getting old. Take care of your health.” Fu Ciyan disapproved of the old man drinking.
The old master shot him a glance: “Shut your mouth and don’t ruin my fun.”
“Alright, enjoy yourself.”
Everyone raised their glasses, the crisp sound of glasses clinking together was particularly pleasant.
Qu Wanwan looked at the table filled with her favorite dishes, delighted. After ten days of eating vegetarian, she wanted to eat meat.
Fu Ciyu noticed the sparkle in her eyes and understood she was craving food, so he piled her favorite dishes into her bowl one by one.
Seeing her bowl filled to the brim, Qu Wanwan quickly stopped him: “That’s enough, enough, I can’t eat it all—”
“Greedy cat, eat up.”
Qu Cheng’an felt gratified. He knew he had chosen the right person for his daughter. Despite the bumps along the way, it was finally a rewarding outcome.
Lu Yu and Shen Man had been released.
They were blindfolded and taken away from the Shadow headquarters.
Qing Ming carelessly threw them down at the Lu family’s building.
Once he confirmed there was no movement, Lu Yu finally removed the blindfold from his face.
Shen Man touched her face and took off her blindfold as well.
Before she could react, Lu Yu fiercely grabbed her by the neck.
Shen Man struggled to breathe, desperately trying to break free but couldn’t.
“Let—”
“Let me go—”
“Do you know you almost ruined my plan?” Lu Yu’s eyes turned cold as he spoke.
When Shen Man thought she was about to die at Lu Yu’s hands, he suddenly released her.
“Cough, cough—”
“Are you crazy—”
Lu Yu looked at the scratches on her face, a hint of disdain flashing in his eyes.
“Shen Man, you betrayed Lu Nanzhi. Do you think she will let you off?”
“Lu Yu, what do you mean?”
“Literally, Shen Man. We’re done here.”
“What? Lu Yu, now that something has happened, you want to cut ties with me?” Shen Man looked at him coldly.
Lu Yu’s expression darkened: “This mess was caused by you. Do I need to spell it out?”
“What did I do?”
“You failed to drug Qu Wanwan and ended up getting yourself drugged. I wasted a night on you, and you’re still not satisfied; you even slept with the hotel staff!”
Lu Yu’s face turned red with anger as he pointed at Shen Man.
Shen Man turned pale, her voice trembling: “You know?”
“Disgusting!”
At that moment, Shen Man felt like a plague, causing Lu Yu to flee in a panic.
As she watched Lu Yu hurriedly leave, a wave of disappointment surged in her heart.
She returned to her residence in despair, only to find Jiang Jingzhi there.
She frowned: “What are you doing here?”
Jiang Jingzhi seemed to have just cried, her eyes still red.
Upon seeing Shen Man’s face, she exclaimed: “What happened to your face?”
“Don’t mind me. Why are you here?”
Jiang Jingzhi choked out: “Manman, they know—”
Shen Man froze: “Know what?”
“They know you are my daughter—”
“How could they find out? Ah! Tell me! Did you do something to make them suspicious?”
Shen Man shouted in agitation.
Jiang Jingzhi shook her head vigorously: “I don’t know—”
“I didn’t do anything—”
“If you didn’t do anything, why would they suspect you?”
“I—”
“Do you know I’ve lived a life worse than death just to one day take down the Qu family?”
“But you tell me, if they’ve discovered my identity, how am I supposed to get close to Qu Wanwan? Huh?”
Jiang Jingzhi’s eyes widened in disbelief: “You want—”
“You want to go after the Qu family?”
“Why not? Why should I have to live as an illegitimate daughter? Why should I not know who my father is?”
“Why did you have to be with another man and give birth to me?”
Every word from Shen Man was like a knife stabbing into Jiang Jingzhi’s heart.
Suddenly, she raised her hand—
“Slap!”
The crisp sound instantly silenced the entire living room.
Shen Man covered her face, glaring fiercely at Jiang Jingzhi: “You hit me?”
“Shen Man! How can you say such things?”
“How? Do you have any shame? If you did, you wouldn’t have acted so shamelessly.”
Jiang Jingzhi’s face changed dramatically. Her beloved daughter was saying things that humiliated her.
She had given her all the love, even feeling indebted to Wanwan, and in return, she got labeled as shameless—
“I’ve grown up without a father, and even my mother is someone else’s. I have to pretend not to know and call her ‘Aunt’—”
“I was bullied at school, and no one stood up for me—”
“Now that I’m working, I have no background—”
“Even in love, I have to hide it—”
“Do you deserve to be a mother?”
Jiang Jingzhi scolded: “Shen Man! You don’t know anything!”
“What do I know? That I’m an unwanted child?”
“Or that I’m a child of disgrace?”
“Your father—”
Jiang Jingzhi hesitated, remembering the promise she made to that man—to never reveal his identity under any circumstances.
“Get out!”
Shen Man pointed to the door, her voice cold.
Jiang Jingzhi was taken aback, seemingly not expecting Shen Man to tell her to leave.
“Shen Man, don’t provoke Wanwan again. You can’t win against her; she has the Fu family behind her.”
Upon hearing this, Shen Man’s expression darkened: “Yes, she has the Fu family behind her, while I have no one.”
“But—”
“I just want to bring them down!”
“Are you crazy?”
“Yes, I’m crazy. So don’t come to provoke me again.”
Seeing that the two couldn’t come to an understanding, Jiang Jingzhi decided to leave first.
Shen Man’s words left her feeling uneasy. Alone, she wanted to take down the Qu family, but it was impossible unless someone helped her.
Who could it be—
For three consecutive days, Jiang Mujin visited Muya Village to see Huo Ziyan and her daughter.
However, on the day he arrived, he saw four little ruffians blocking their way.
“Oh, you still have a child?”
“Which wild man’s is it?”
“I see you’re unwanted. Why not come with me?”
“Get lost!” Huo Ziyan coldly said, protecting Yuyu in her arms.
“Hah, don’t refuse hospitality and instead get punished!”
“Is that so? I want to see who dares to punish them!”
A voice as cold as ice came from behind the four of them, causing them to shudder.
