“Xiaojie (young lady” or “miss)) Qu, are you really Xiaojie Qu?”
“Qingye, are you out of your mind?!”
Qu Wanwan couldn’t be bothered with him. She ran up to Fu Ciyu, gave him a quick peck on the lips, and then darted away.
Qingye’s eyes widened in disbelief. The word burst from his mouth: “Heavens!”
Fu Ciyu’s pupils contracted sharply. The tightly furrowed brows gradually relaxed, and the icy shell around his heart began to ripple.
Qu Wanwan was so focused on escaping that she forgot how she was supposed to get back.
Damn it! How was she supposed to go back now? Running back at this point would be absolutely humiliating!
“Xiaojie Qu.”
Qu Wanwan turned around and saw Qingye. She grinned and said, “Uh… give me a ride back, would you?”
“Of course, Xiaojie Qu.”
Dusk had already blurred the horizon, and the sky, once ablaze with the glow of sunset, had gradually faded into a dull monotone.
All of a sudden, Qu Wanwan remembered something. She shot up from the back seat, accidentally hitting her head on the roof of the car.
“Ouch!”
Qingye slammed on the brakes and stopped the vehicle immediately.
Turning his head around, he asked with concern, “Xiaojie Qu, are you alright?”
Qu Wanwan shook her head, her tone tinged with urgency. “Call Gu Yichen and tell him Fu Ciyu is injured. Ask him to come take a look and help bandage it.”
She had been so caught up arguing with him earlier that she completely forgot to check his wound.
Only now did Qingye understand why Xiaojie Qu had reacted so emotionally.
Master’s wound had only been given a quick treatment—they hadn’t informed Young Master Gu at all.
He immediately took out his phone and dialed Gu Yichen’s number. The call connected quickly, though there was some background noise on the other end.
“Qingye, what’s up? That little brat’s acting up again?”
Before Qingye could respond, he quickly covered the receiver. Qu Wanwan, on the other hand, looked completely unfazed. She stretched out her hand, and Qingye understood at once.
He handed her the phone, silently offering a prayer for Gu Yichen.
The voice on the other end kept rambling, while Qingye turned to stare out the car window.
“I’m telling you, Ciyu should just find someone obedient and sensible. Why’s he so determined to hang himself on this one tree?”
Not hearing any reaction, Gu Yichen called out, “Qingye? Qingye! Are you listening?”
Qingye glanced at Qu Wanwan, then quickly responded, “Yes, yes, I’m listening.”
“Oh, good. That little liar Qu Wanwan—tricking Ciyu once wasn’t enough, now she’s dragging the rest of us into it too. If it weren’t for the fact that she’s Mubai’s sister, I would’ve cursed her out long ago.”
“Who exactly were you planning to curse?” Qu Wanwan said coldly.
Bang!
What just fell to the floor??
Qingye leaned in toward the phone, just about to speak, when he heard, “Yichen? Yichen, are you alright?”
“What the—! Why are you lying on the ground?”
“Yichen? Did you fall?”
“Let me take a look—what happened here?”
“Hahahahaha! Gu Yichen, you actually faceplanted? Hahaha!”
Hearing the chaos from the other end, Qingye was on the verge of exploding. He wanted to laugh but didn’t dare.
Qu Wanwan glanced at him. “If you want to laugh, just laugh. Don’t hold it in and suffocate.”
“Pfft—hahahahahaha…” Qingye let it out. Xiaojie Qu really was Young Master Gu’s natural nemesis.
Qu Wanwan twitched the corner of her mouth. Was it really that funny?
She spoke slowly into the phone, “You can shut up now.”
Sure enough, the other end fell instantly silent. Then Gu Yichen sighed and muttered, “Alright, Ancestor. Go ahead.”
Qingye immediately turned his head to the side and let out a low chuckle.
Only then did Qu Wanwan speak. “Come to Yuyuan and bandage Ciyu’s wound.”
“You hurt him again? Qu Wanwan, do you even have a heart? What’s so damn great about Lu Yu that you keep hurting Ciyu over and over again?”
In the end, Gu Yichen couldn’t hold back and yelled at Qu Wanwan.
But the moment he finished, he realized there wasn’t a single sound coming from the other end—and now he didn’t even dare hang up.
After a long silence, Qu Wanwan’s voice finally drifted through, calm and slow. “That’s right. I don’t have a heart. I’ve hurt him time and time again. But not anymore. From now on, I’ll only love him well.”
“You—”
“Ten minutes. Be at Yuyuan.”
Gu Yichen still wanted to say more, but Qu Wanwan hung up without waiting.
“Let’s go.”
Qingye started the car and headed for the Qu Residence.
After dropping her off, Qingye was about to leave when Qu Wanwan suddenly called out.
“Qingye.”
“Xiaojie Qu,” Qingye stopped in his tracks.
“Qingyun likes Fu Ciyu—I can understand that. Handsome men always inspire fantasies. But…”
Her tone paused before she continued, “He’s mine. I won’t allow anyone to covet him.”
Qingye froze, visibly startled. His expression turned serious. “Please rest assured, Xiaojie Qu. As a subordinate, I will only do what’s within my duty—never overstep.”
Qu Wanwan tilted her head slightly, looking into the distance. Her voice was soft.
“Pass a message to Fu Ciyu for me.”
“Alright.”
“When the forest is deep, one sees deer;
When the sea is blue, one sees whales;
And when the dream ends, I see you.”
After speaking, Qu Wanwan turned and walked into the Qu Residence, leaving a stunned Qingye standing there.
By the time he snapped out of it, Qu Wanwan was already gone without a trace.
He silently repeated those words to himself, then turned to report back.
Qu Residence, Main Hall
It seemed an uninvited guest had arrived.
“Wanwan?”
Qu Wanwan’s gaze turned cold. “You really think this is your own home, don’t you? Still here this late?”
“Wanwan, is that any way to talk? Manman came to see me.”
Qu Wanwan’s mother, Jiang Jingzhi, shot her a reproachful glare.
What Qu Wanwan had always wondered was—why, in every lifetime, did Jiang Jingzhi never seem to like her?
A thought occurred to her, and a faint smile curved her lips. She sat down beside Jiang Jingzhi and clung to her arm in a spoiled, affectionate manner.
“Mom, Shen Man’s mother has already told me so many times. She never goes home, so she asked me to be a little fierce with her to drive her back.”
Jiang Jingzhi was momentarily stunned—when had her daughter ever been this affectionate with her?
Qu Wanwan glanced at the two women, catching the flicker of surprise on one face and embarrassment on the other. A sneer tugged at the corner of her lips.
In her past life, Shen Man had spun endless lies about her in front of Jiang Jingzhi, painting her in the worst light and leading to her mother’s deep disappointment. Shen Man had even gone so far as to become Jiang Jingzhi’s sworn goddaughter, earning the freedom to come and go from the Qu Residence at will, pushing Qu Wanwan to the sidelines.
But this time around, she would make sure things played out differently—she’d like to see who would end up being pushed aside.
Jiang Jingzhi couldn’t help but ask, “Manman, has it been a long time since you last went home?”
Shen Man offered a sheepish smile. “Auntie, I just went back the day before yesterday.”
Qu Wanwan’s brow furrowed in mock confusion. “That’s strange. Aunt Zhou said you haven’t been home in a week.”
Inwardly, Shen Man cursed Qu Wanwan for being such a meddling fool. What business was it of hers when she went home?
“Mom, you can’t keep monopolizing Shen Man like this. She still has her own parents—what would her mother think of you keeping her here all the time?”
Qu Wanwan suddenly raised her voice, making sure it carried through the room.
Jiang Jingzhi’s expression shifted instantly. Her face hardened. “What nonsense are you spouting now?”
“I’m not spouting nonsense.”
“Why are you back? Did you have another fight with Ciyu?”
“Oh, he went out, and I got bored, so I came home,” Qu Wanwan replied casually, popping a grape from the table into her mouth. They weren’t even married yet—why shouldn’t she come back?
“Is that so?” Jiang Jingzhi clearly didn’t believe her.
“Mom, you don’t believe me?”
“After the huge scene you made, you still have the nerve to say that?”
The sudden voice struck Qu Wanwan like a jolt, sending a shiver through her entire body.
