Wasteland Apocalypse Supermarket Management Guide
Wasteland Apocalypse Supermarket Management Guide | Chapter 15: Grand Opening and Special Promotions

After a slight dizziness, Wen Yu stood firmly at the main entrance.

The original glass doors were now decorated with some sparkling ornaments, and when the wind blew or the door moved, the little bells would ring with a clear, crisp sound.

She stood by the door and had just taken a step inside when a prompt sounded.

“Welcome to Oasis Supermarket~”

The garbage-cleaning robot, Xiao Xin, rolled out from the corner, cheerfully spinning around toward her.

“Upgrade complete! Upgrade complete!”

Wen Yu looked down and noticed Xiao Xin had been upgraded too—its mechanical arms were longer than before, and the cleaning functions now included disinfection and drying.

Now, even more challenging deep cleaning tasks were no problem.

Following Xiao Xin’s direction, she looked up to see the supermarket fully stocked. Various goods were divided into different sections, each marked by a large sign displaying the section name, product types, and current quantities.

The first thing she saw was the discounted goods area, which was mostly empty—store owners needed to select quantities and discount prices themselves.

Wen Yu picked several common daily items for the discount list: purified water, sandwiches, fried pork cutlets, basic medicines. To celebrate the upgraded grand opening, everything was offered at 30% off.

Further inside, on the left was the fruits and vegetables section, and on the right was the prepared foods area.

The fruit and vegetable section had common fruits arranged on one layer: oranges, watermelons, dragon fruit, all washed, cut, and packed.

Bright red strawberries were neatly placed in clear plastic boxes, each strawberry held in its own specially shaped compartment. A whole box cost just 30 silver coins.

Feeling tempted, Wen Yu took a box and started eating while walking. She picked up a strawberry, and its aroma immediately filled the air.

Taking a bite, the fresh red flesh appeared, and the unique sweetness mixed perfectly with the slight tartness of the juice, making it hard to stop eating.

Below the fruits were the vegetables: tender bok choy so fresh you could squeeze out water, thin, curved chili peppers, cucumbers topped with small, soft yellow flowers, and prickly spines that stung the hand—everything clearly very fresh.

Her eyes scanned the area, and Wen Yu nodded in satisfaction. Spending 3,000 silver coins here was worth it; the produce was basically what she used to see in small supermarkets before, saving a lot of trouble.

Opposite the produce section was the prepared foods area. There, no real food was visible, so it didn’t emit the strange mixed smells typical of cooked food.

The system integrated all meals into a touchscreen display. After selecting a dish and paying, customers could place their order. The kitchen was separated at the back, preventing any cooking smells from spreading.

“Automatic cooking, automatic cooking, where are you?”

Currently, the screen only displayed dishes that had already been made, such as fried pork chops, iced cola, hamburgers, and fried mushrooms. Humming a tune, Wen Yu made her way into the kitchen area.

Inside the kitchen hung another screen that showed customer orders. In the lower right corner of the screen was a line of small text:

[After making ten portions of each type of food, proficiency is reached. Once proficient, adding ingredients will instantly produce the dish automatically.]

Ten portions—all the foods on the screen had been made at least ten times, which meant Chef Wen was temporarily free.

“This is much more convenient now!”

She examined the kitchen layout and discovered that prepared food could be placed in a warming box. No matter how long it was stored, the food would still be fresh, as if just cooked.

In the future, when experimenting with new snacks, she could make ten portions at once and place them there, ready for customers to order.

After restocking ingredients, Wen Yu left the preparation area and turned down a hallway where a large area was stocked with daily necessities.

The shelves held both modern-day essentials—such as toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, and shampoo and items specific to a wasteland apocalypse: basic medicines, anti-radiation suits, and radiation detectors.

In short, most everyday necessities could be found in this small supermarket, though the variety wasn’t very extensive or comprehensive.

Further inside was a large snack section, divided into two main parts. One side contained canned food, instant noodles, self-heating hotpots, and compressed biscuits. The other side held chips, biscuits, beef jerky, jelly, and milk candies.

At the end were the automatic checkout machines. The main entrance and exit were separate, and people could walk along the shelves to the exit, where the larger automatic checkout machines were located on both sides.

The shelves were fully stocked, and Wen Yu felt delighted.

A supermarket this large felt completely different in the game world than in real life.

She recalled her childhood at the orphanage. Although life wasn’t too miserable then, it was always lacking.

For a young child like her, the farthest place she could venture was a small supermarket at the orphanage’s entrance. Each month, the child who performed the best would be taken there by the director as a reward to choose a few snacks.

As a child, Wen Yu was obedient and quiet. She rarely cried or caused trouble and had, on several occasions, been the child awarded the most red stars for good behavior.

The small supermarket was not large, and the snack selection was limited, but to young Wen Yu, it was the most luxurious place in the world.

She vowed to open her own supermarket one day.

After becoming an adult, busy work pushed that dream to the back of her mind, replaced only by running a business simulation games on her phone.

She never expected that in this otherworldly timeline—a dangerous, wasteland world—she would finally fulfill her childhood dream.

The supermarket was spacious enough to hold fifty people comfortably. Given the recent customer flow, Wen Yu estimated there would be no need to queue.

If an emergency arose, customers could exit through the back door, which was secured by a heavy fireproof rolling shutter. Although protected by the system, fire extinguishers remained indispensable.

Beyond the back door was a fenced area with a roof that sheltered against wind, rain, and radiation, but it could not maintain a constant temperature.

Wen Yu considered setting up two shelters here for Hongye and Tianbing, gradually turning the space into a dedicated pet zone.

Next to the back door was a hidden staircase accessible only to Wen Yu. She climbed up and found the entire floor was a resting area.

The original room layout was preserved, but the bathroom had been expanded to twice its original size and upgraded with separate wet and dry zones. A walk-in closet and guest room had also been added to the rest space.

The closet was minimalist in design, featuring a wooden ceiling, soft warm-white lighting, a simple standing wardrobe, and a full-length mirror placed nearby.

“But I don’t really have many clothes…”

Wen Yu wondered, staring at the empty wardrobe. In the mirror, she wore the simple casual shirt and jeans she had on when she crossed over—a typical office worker’s outfit.

The system responded considerately, projecting a miniature version of Wen Yu in front of the mirror wearing different outfits.

[New feature: Miracle YuYu.]

[Each time you tame an A-grade or higher mutated creature, you unlock a new outfit. Please explore on your own.]

The system was quite flexible, adding more gameplay to the originally plain supermarket management game.

Enthusiastically, Wen Yu browsed through the virtual outfits, which ranged from gentle and graceful styles to elegant and noble, as well as youthful and adorable designs.

Hanfu, suits, dresses—everything one could imagine was available.

She unlocked a set of greyish-purple Hanfu with a modernized horse-face skirt—elegant and poised, yet practical enough for daily movement.

“I’ll wear this in the supermarket! Hmm, and there’s another set…”

She picked out an inconspicuous three-in-one tactical jacket from a pile of pretty dresses.

The jacket was dull gray and would be unnoticeable in the crowd.

“This one’s for going outside.”

Once the supermarket could operate independently, she wanted to explore the outside world. Wearing something flashy would be inconvenient.

Having chosen both outfits, Wen Yu touched the horse-face skirt hanging in the wardrobe happily and returned to her bedroom.

Shopkeeper Wen was highly satisfied with the supermarket’s transformation. It was destined to be a wonderful night.

Inside the central base.

Another group of shoppers had returned home, bringing with them a wide variety of fresh goods. Those who had not yet ventured out could no longer remain idle; they began peeking out from their homes, inquiring about news regarding the store.

One person had thrown away the flyer thinking it was fake but just happened to meet a neighbor returning from shopping and realized the change.

“Old Zhao, you just came back from outside?”

The hurried passerby paused and raised the bag of flour in his arms.

“Yes! Look at this—a bag of flour I just bought from that Oasis Convenience Store outside the base. It’s enough to feed a family of three for several days!”

“Oh wow, that’s really good! That store looks reliable, huh?”

Old Zhao slapped his thigh and stopped rushing, sitting down to chat with a familiar face.

“Let me tell you, that flyer wasn’t exaggerating at all. If anything, it understated things. The products in the store are not only plentiful but also high-quality!”

“We’ve been neighbors for years; I’ll tell you a secret.”

“All the goods in the supermarket have zero radiation. I heard eating there can reduce mutation levels!”

The listener’s eyes lit up with envy, mentally resolving to visit the store the very next day.

“With such a well-stocked place, the owner must be quite formidable. Is it true, what they say—that he’s tall, strong, and has a full beard?”

Hearing this, Old Zhao’s expression suddenly changed.

He had a keen instinct for judging people, which had helped him survive in the wasteland. The owner seemed gentle, but gave off a dangerous vibe. Such a strong person probably disliked gossip behind their back.

Thinking of Ma Shan, who got blacklisted, Old Zhao answered more cautiously.

“The owner… is indeed formidable and shows no mercy when dealing with thieves. As for the rest… you’ll have to see for yourself.”

No matter how much the other person pressed, Old Zhao only replied:

“Can’t say, can’t say.”

Such conversations repeated countless times in the central base, and the reputation of the Oasis Convenience Store gradually spread.

On the Morning of the Sixth Day

At the break of dawn, Wen Yu climbed out from under her covers.

Unlike a small convenience store, the supermarket gave off a completely different vibe. Suddenly, Shopkeeper Wen felt a surge of familiar business enthusiasm.

Even though it wasn’t yet time for the store to open, and no customers were waiting outside as before, she glanced at a partially written business plan from the previous day and had a sudden burst of inspiration:

A Grand Opening Promotion!

Today was the first day the Oasis supermarket opened, and Wen Yu decided to make a lottery box herself. Anyone who spent 50 silver coins or more could enter the draw once. The prizes inside were things most needed by the locals, with the smallest prize being a milk candy.

This would surely ignite all consumers’ enthusiasm.
