Wasteland Apocalypse Supermarket Management Guide
Wasteland Apocalypse Supermarket Management Guide | Chapter 7: A Life-Saving Debt

Having just lifted her head from the planning document; Wen Yu was startled.

At the doorway lay a young man wearing goggles, the lenses fogged up so his face was unclear. After pushing the door open, he collapsed onto the floor, unable to get up.

The young man carried on his back another man, whose body was stained with fresh blood. Wrapped in a thick radiation suit that hid his age, large patches of blood seeped through the suit, staining the ground in front of the convenience store red.

As soon as the convenience store door opened, warm air surged inside, and Wen Yu hurried forward to attend to the customers.

“What happened? Come inside quickly.”

Two teammates followed closely behind, dressed similarly but looking younger and with narrower shoulders—likely two girls.

They weakly helped lift the two men from the ground, their eyes pleading as they looked at Wen Yu for assistance.

“Sister, the captain is injured. Could you sell us some medicine… just one box will do.”

The base price of basic medicine was one hundred silver coins. One of the team members bit her lip upon seeing the price and produced seventeen silver coins from her pocket, placing them on the table.

Wen Yu did not glance at the silver coins. Judging by the man’s injuries, she knew there was no time to waste. She looked down and quickly found bandages and disinfectant on the control panel, then turned to get the medicine.

“This… I don’t know if it’s enough. If not, we can find something else to pawn. Please, just save the captain first.”

A jade pendant struck the counter, producing a clear, crisp sound. The young teammate reached deep into her pocket and gently slid a translucent jade pendant forward.

“Qingyuan! Why did you take that out? Put it away! I’ll go back and gather the money right now!”

The young man with goggles struggled to get up and stop her but was too weak to stand.

As Wen Yu returned with the bandages and basic medicine, the young girl’s lips were nearly bleeding from biting down so hard. She turned her head away from the youth, her voice strained and laden with suppressed pain.

“They’re already dead. What use is holding onto this?”

“Saving the captain’s life is worth far more than this jade pendant.”

Wen Yu patted the young girl on the shoulder, handed the medicine to Qingyuan, and gently returned the jade pendant.

“All right, all right. Saving lives is the priority. The convenience store accepts all kinds of items for recycling; you can repay it later.”

Qingyuan looked up, her eyes showing evident surprise. Merchants in the marketplace were the most cunning type, and over the years, they had been deceived countless times, so she no longer expected help.

She nodded deeply, her eyes full of gratitude.

The basic medicine sold in the convenience store was highly effective, capable of restoring up to 50 health points when converted into game terms.

Upon applying the medicine, the three observed in amazement as the captain’s wounds began to heal.

They watched the injury intently, not blinking, as the puncture caused by the fang gradually formed pink tissue, which slowly grew skin. The middle-aged man lying on the ground breathed more steadily.

“The effect of this medicine…”

“Is surprisingly good.”

“It’s way better than the medicine we exchanged for at the marketplace!”

“Indeed, even the best medicine at the market would take several days to heal such wounds. This is only three minutes, and the captain’s complexion has already improved!”

Wen Yu approached and glanced at the captain. The effect of the basic medicine was evident. When his helmet was first removed, his face showed no color; although still pale, he now appeared alive.

The three were still quite young. Seeing the captain recover somewhat and begin to regain consciousness, their tension eased and their spirits lifted.

“Sister, how many silver coins in total?”

“Yes, yes, we will repay you as soon as possible.”

“My name is Zhang Yuan, and these two are Qingyuan and Qingmiao. Don’t worry, we will make sure to repay you fully!”

The three were all quite young. Zhang Yuan appeared barely of legal age, while Qingyuan and Qingmiao were only fifteen and twins.

“Basic medicine costs 100 silver coins, bandages 20 silver coins, and disinfectant 30 silver coins.”

“But there’s no rush. You can bring the payment when you have gathered the full amount.”

“By the way, the convenience store is free from radiation, so you can rest here for now. Just make sure to leave before nightfall.”

Hearing that the store was safe, the three removed parts of their protective gear without hesitation.

Wen Yu had a good impression of these polite young people and kindly offered some advice.

“The convenience store can process mutated creatures you defeat or food you collect, although the prices are slightly lower than at the market. If you need, you can come here to exchange.”

The three expressed great delight and began planning to bring back the mutated wild hare they had just defeated for exchange.

✧✧✧

This is our team captain, Wang Chaoyun. He is a very kind person. If he had not rescued us, we would have lost our lives long ago.

Yes, indeed. Our captain is not only kind but also exceptionally skilled in combat. Just now, we managed to kill a mutated wild hare.

Don’t even mention it. If it weren’t for that damned hare, the captain wouldn’t have been injured.

When Wang Chaoyun regained consciousness, the voices of his teammates chattering nearby filled his ears.

What is going on? Wasn’t he injured? Could it be that he has actually been brought back to the central base?

He opened his eyes, and soft white light streamed down from a round ceiling lamp.

This place… was unfamiliar. It was not the medical clinic of the central base. Propping himself up, he scanned the surroundings. Due to excessive blood loss, his vision was somewhat blurred, but he vaguely made out three familiar figures gathered around a young woman.

On the other side was a tall shelf filled with colorful goods, somewhat like a convenience store from before the apocalypse.

Wang Chaoyun lay back down.

It must be a dream.

The wasteland apocalypse had lasted for forty years; convenience stores no longer existed. He thought to himself that he was probably, no, definitely dead.

“Captain!”

“Captain! You’re awake!”

The three members who noticed he was conscious immediately rushed over and helped Wang Chaoyun sit on a stool by the eating area.

“Ugh…” The wound still ached, but his confusion about the situation far outweighed the pain.

So it’s not a dream?

As Wang Chaoyun’s eyesight gradually returned, he looked at the young woman smiling gently as she approached, his mind racing rapidly.

Information overload, temporarily shutting down.

“What is this place? Where am I?”

He heard himself ask.

“Captain, we discovered a convenience store in the desert. The owner here gave us medicine and saved your life!”

“But we still owe the owner 133 silver coins… However, Captain, don’t worry, the owner said we can repay with mutated meat!”

Desert, convenience store, medicine… he had heard all these words before, but in the wasteland apocalypse, they seemed utterly unbelievable.

After checking his wound by lifting his clothes, he gradually accepted the reality. At that moment, everything in the convenience store looked different.

“Hello, I am the owner here, Wen Yu.”

The young woman seemed gentle and harmless, but who could be so simple as to run a convenience store in a place like this?

Wang Chaoyun didn’t dare underestimate her. He stood up and bowed politely in greeting.

“I am Wang Chaoyun. Before the apocalypse, I ran a martial arts school at the central base.”

He noticed some unprocessed meat from mutated creatures in the food section and roughly understood what the store sold.

“I can’t repay you for saving my life. Besides hunting, I don’t have many other skills… From now on, we’ll provide the ingredients you need for the convenience store.”

Wen Yu shook her head, refusing gently but firmly.

“It was these children who saved you; I am merely the store owner.”

“But when you bring in game, you can give it to the store first. I’ll pay you the normal recovery price.”

After a short while, Wang Chaoyun’s wounds fully healed. Not knowing how to repay the kindness, he silently resolved to bring more game here in the future.

As the day was still young, the four set out to retrieve the carcass of the mutated wild hare they had killed earlier, while Wen Yu continued working on her plan.

✧✧✧

There were no advertisements or social media promotions, not to mention typical marketing tactics such as price reductions or buy-one-get-one-free offers.

The Oasis Convenience Store, stranded in this desolate desert, couldn’t even find any customers.

The Central Base was too far away, and the store couldn’t operate without staff for now, so Wen Yu had no way to go there and promote it.

Biting the end of her pen, she sat at the counter, staring blankly at a sheet of paper.

“It is unsustainable to rely solely on these few scattered customers for business…”

However, the desert was inherently filled with strange things. For most people, seeing unidentified objects from a distance naturally triggered an instinct to avoid the area.

And who could blame them? Even the locals didn’t know what was inside this convenience store, and you couldn’t make out the contents through the glass from afar.

“Don’t know… can’t see clearly…”

Then, an idea struck.

Wen Yu’s eyes brightened, and she quickly jotted down some notes.

“If they don’t know what’s inside, then I’ll just draw it on a flyer!”

Without hesitation, she began designing a flyer layout in her mind. At the center, she drew a set featuring a hamburger, fries, and a soft drink, accompanied by large red characters stating:

Oasis Convenience Store Grand Opening Promotion: Hamburger Set Only 29 Silver Coins.

Promotion valid for seven days, limited to the first twenty orders, first come, first served.

Prior to transmigration, Wen Yu had worked at a graphic design company, so creating such a simple poster was effortless for her.

With a few strokes, she rendered a burger rich in fillings vividly on paper; with additional lines, she depicted fries and a frosted soft drink, which under the blazing sun appeared particularly enticing.

The back side of the flyer was divided into small sections, each illustrating an item available in the convenience store, with prices clearly marked below.

“There really aren’t that many items in this store…”

Tilting her head, Wen Yu browsed through the control panel and selected some of her favorite snacks and daily necessities.

There were all sorts of snacks—some she’d tried, others she hadn’t. Chips, snow cakes, gummies, chicken wings, and a whole variety of differently packaged items—she chose them all.

For daily goods, aside from the essentials, she specifically picked a few types of sanitary pads in different sizes and price ranges.

After so many years in the wasteland apocalypse, who knew how girls had gotten by.

Regarding cigarettes, the store’s most popular product, she decisively rejected them by marking a large X over it.

No thanks.

Secondhand smoke was the most annoying thing in the world.

Once she finished drawing, Wen Yu looked proudly at the colorful flyers. She carefully noted the store’s location in relation to the Central Base and wrote it neatly in the center of the flyer.

“Perfect!”

The printer worked quickly, and in no time, a hundred copies were ready. Wen Yu stacked the flyers to one side, planning to hire the squad from earlier to help distribute them.
