Chapter 8: The Three Heavenly Join Forces Against Zhang Yue, The Savior General Defeats the Powerful Enemy
Jade Unicorn Lu Junyi, the Heavenly Gang Star, the second-in-command of Liangshan, is the top horse-mounted warrior. His six-foot steel spear has no equal, he rides a swift steed that soars through the clouds, his talent and martial arts skills are both exceptional, the most powerful person in the Water Margin world.
Great Saber Guan Sheng, the Heavenly Courage Star, ranked fifth on Liangshan, a descendant of the famous general Guan Yu of the Three Kingdoms, the top horse-mounted warrior among the Five Tiger Generals of Liangshan, wielding a Qinglong Yanyue Saber, with the courage of a thousand men.
Little Li Guang, Hua Rong, the Heavenly Hero Star, ranked ninth on Liangshan, the leader of the Eight Gallant Knights of Liangshan, with exceptional archery skills, hitting every target, wielding a silver spear and a bow, his archery skills unmatched throughout the world.
Any one of these three Heavenly Gang Generals of Liangshan would strike fear into the hearts of their opponents. Now, the three Heavenly Gangs have joined forces to attack Zhang Yue. Everyone present, except Zhang Yue, believes that this unknown soldier is already dead.
Even Wu Song, who was watching the battle from the back room, gave up the illusion of fighting back and said dejectedly to Guo Tong, “Miss Guo, Brother Zhang entrusted you to me. Let me, Wu Song, escort you to Tokyo!”
Everyone in the room heard this and felt deeply sorry for Zhang Yue. They turned their heads away, unwilling to watch Zhang Yue die tragically on the spot.
“Clang!”
“Clang!”
Two deafening sounds of weapons clashing rang out, causing thousands of soldiers to drop their weapons and cover their ears tightly. The powerful shockwave sent the soldier formation into disarray, and the intense electric light blinded everyone.
Looking again, Zhang Yue had firmly intercepted the strongest combined attack of Lu Junyi and Guan Sheng. The three of them were fighting together. The two steeds circled around Zhang Yue, and Lu and Guan on horseback attacked Zhang Yue fiercely with their spears and sabers.
In the hands of these two masters of spear and saber, each blow transformed into hundreds and thousands of beams of white light, sweeping towards Zhang Yue like a raging storm. Everyone present couldn’t help but cheer silently.
Zhang Yue smiled, calmly responding. The three of them fought fiercely, and dust swirled in the air.
At this moment, Hua Rong had an arrow nocked, his bow drawn like a full moon, his eyes narrowed into slits, following Zhang Yue’s movements, looking for an opportunity.
Fortunately, Zhang Yue had already seen through everything. While fighting fiercely with Lu and Guan, he deliberately moved, preventing Hua Rong from finding a chance.
Hua Rong stared at Zhang Yue’s figure, his arrow following his movements, but he couldn’t find an opportunity. Large beads of sweat rolled down his forehead, and he began to blink constantly. His hand holding the bow and arrow trembled involuntarily.
Seeing that Zhang Yue was easily handling the combined attack of Lu and Guan, having already fought for more than twenty rounds, he was not losing ground at all, but instead becoming more and more valiant. While blocking and dodging, he even began to counterattack.
On the other hand, Lu and Guan, who were fighting two against one, on horseback against foot, with Hua Rong’s divine arrows assisting them, had the upper hand. But after only twenty rounds, they both felt a sense of retreat.
Zhang Yue keenly seized the opportunity. He slid under Guan Sheng’s powerful and heavy horizontal sweep, slid to the side of Lu Junyi’s horse, and thrust his spear diagonally, aiming for Lu Junyi’s kidneys.
Lu Junyi was caught off guard and hurriedly blocked with his spear, but it was exactly what Zhang Yue wanted. He reversed his spear and struck with all his might, directly knocking the steel spear out of Lu Junyi’s hand.
Zhang Yue could have killed him with a single spear, but he had no intention of taking Lu Junyi’s life. He held back, showing his intentions, wanting to stop the fight. He thrust his spear towards Lu Junyi’s calf, intending to knock him off his horse.
Unexpectedly, Lu Junyi, in order to avenge his previous humiliation, disregarded his leg and grabbed the spearhead with both hands. Zhang Yue was startled and quickly retracted his strength, only piercing Lu Junyi’s calf skin.
But Lu Junyi was holding Zhang Yue’s spear tightly with both hands!
Guan Sheng seized the opportunity, leaped from his horse, raised his saber, and used his ultimate move, the Thunderous Half-Moon Slash, with the force to shatter both man and horse, striking directly at Zhang Yue’s back.
Zhang Yue felt a gust of wind coming from behind him. He thought, “This is bad!” He immediately gathered all his strength with both hands, lifted Lu Junyi, who was holding the spearhead tightly, and threw him out, spear and all.
Then, he rolled to the side.
Almost at the same time, the Qinglong Yanyue Saber, with the weight of the horse and Guan Sheng, slashed down from the sky, brushing past Zhang Yue’s ear, splitting Lu Junyi’s warhorse in two.
Everyone was shocked. If Zhang Yue hadn’t reacted quickly, Guan Sheng’s Thunderous Half-Moon Slash would have split Zhang Yue, Lu Junyi, and the warhorse in two!
Hua Rong finally saw his chance. He raised his hand and shot an arrow at Zhang Yue, who was rolling to the side. Zhang Yue heard the sound of the bowstring and knew that Hua Rong had shot.
Zhang Yue, who was also skilled in archery, judged that Hua Rong was aiming for the moment he rolled and stood up. So, while rolling, he directly slapped the ground with both hands, curled up into a ball, pressed his body against the ground, and then shot up, perfectly dodging the arrow.
Seeing this, Lu Junyi, who had been thrown aside, was unwilling to give up. While Zhang Yue was in the air, unable to use his strength, he used the last of his strength to throw his spear, aiming at Zhang Yue.
Zhang Yue had anticipated this. He did a mid-air somersault, caught the spear, and shouted, “Thank you, Gentleman Lu, for the spear!”
Then, he flew into the air, landing on top of Guan Sheng’s head, and from above, he thrust his spear straight at Guan Sheng’s crown.
Guan Sheng, a man of great skill, was not surprised or afraid. He simply raised his saber with both hands, using the huge blade of the Qinglong Yanyue Saber to protect his head.
With a clang, sparks flew. Zhang Yue’s spear struck the blade of the Qinglong Yanyue Saber. The immense force knocked Guan Sheng’s warhorse over.
Zhang Yue and Guan Sheng, one after the other, fell heavily to the ground. Zhang Yue was afraid that Hua Rong would take the opportunity to shoot again, so he quickly rolled to his feet, leaped ten steps away, and held his spear to protect himself.
Guan Sheng was shocked by the blow, his heart pounding, his internal organs churning. He struggled to get up, sat cross-legged on the ground, closed his eyes slightly, and regulated his breathing. He had clearly lost his fighting strength.
Lu Junyi, seeing that his surprise attack with the spear had failed, but had instead achieved a perfect assist, stumbled and fell to his knees.
Hua Rong also quickly put away his bow and arrow. He knew that he was no match for Zhang Yue and didn’t want to humiliate himself.
Zhang Yue thought to himself, “I wanted to create a flaw and end this fight gracefully, but Lu Junyi insisted on putting me to death. Fortunately, I escaped unharmed. Now, taking their lives would be like taking candy from a baby, effortless.”
Yan Qing was the one who saw the situation clearly. He quickly ran to Lu Junyi’s side, helped him up, and politely thanked Zhang Yue, “Thank you, hero, for your mercy and for saving my master from General Guan’s saber. Today’s incident was our Liangshan’s fault. Please forgive us, hero, and spare our lives!”
Hua Rong also knew that Zhang Yue was fully capable of killing them all based on his performance in the battle. He quickly dismounted and bowed, “It was a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding. Hero, you killed Gao Qiu, saved the people, and acted on behalf of heaven. You share the same ideals as our Liangshan. As the saying goes, ‘We don’t know each other until we fight.’ Hahaha!”
Zhang Yue put away his spear and simply said, “I have long heard of the reputation of Jade Unicorn Lu Junyi, Great Saber Guan Sheng, and Little Li Guang, Hua Rong. Today, I passed through Liangshan and was honored to be graced by the three heroes, sparring with me. I have benefited greatly and am very happy. It’s getting late. Please return, gentlemen. If fate allows, we will meet again!”
Hua Rong and Yan Qing thanked him repeatedly, quickly helped Guan Sheng and Lu Junyi onto their horses, and called for their soldiers to return to the mountain stronghold.
Zhang Yue turned and walked into the inn. As soon as he pushed open the door, Guo Tong ran towards him, threw herself into his arms, and cried like a heartbroken person, “It’s great that you’re alive. I was so worried. I don’t want to go to Tokyo with a big, rough-looking monk!”
“Miss Tong’er, the trip to Tokyo may be delayed for a while.” Zhang Yue said thoughtfully, with a serious expression.
