Zhuo Mu’s lips curved into a faint smile.
Wen Ze also added, “Now that everyone needs fabric, you must have exchanged and used a lot of supplies for this, right? If you need any, just let me know, and I can help you weave it.”
The tribe had promised to give Wen Ze two bundles of fabric, but considering the fabric was in short supply, he did not rush to ask for it.
Now, touching the fabric in his hands, he couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for Zhuo Mu.
Zhuo Mu replied calmly, “It’s not much to me. Since it can be used, shall I leave it to you?”
While Wen Ze was impressed by his “wealth,” he was also a little moved.
It seemed that Zhuo Mu had noticed that he was busy gathering and working every day, which was why he hadn’t asked for help.
Sensing his trust, Wen Ze nodded seriously. “I’ll finish it as quickly as I can and give it to you.”
“No need to hurry.”
He said so, but Wen Ze, who had accepted the stone hoe from him, couldn’t really afford to take it easy.
That very night, he took a clean piece of animal hide and measured Zhuo Mu’s size.
There were no tools available to take measurements at the moment, so he used a bone knife to mark the size he needed on the animal hide.
Worried about making something that wouldn’t fit again, he measured everything very carefully.
Zhuo Mu stood quietly, his red eyes staring ahead, and he cooperated very well throughout the whole process.
Wen Ze compared his own measurements with Zhuo Mu’s and was completely surprised.
Compared to the other half-beastmen in the tribe, he was thinner. However, he had a thin layer of muscle, and his build was well-balanced, which made him quite attractive.
But standing in front of Zhuo Mu, he felt like he didn’t look as good.
With a slim waist and stunning legs, it was as if he had been specially favored by the Creator, every part of him flawless and breathtaking.
Seeing that he hadn’t moved for a moment, Zhuo Mu lowered his head and looked at him. “What’s wrong?”
Wen Ze suddenly came back to his senses. “Ah, nothing, I’ve already measured it. I’ll start making pants for you tomorrow.”
Zhuo Mu nodded. “Okay, thank you.”
True to his word, Wen Ze got to work the next morning after breakfast. While Zhuo Mu went out hunting, Wen Ze started sewing the pants.
It wasn’t even noon, and it was already done.
After making sure everything was fine, he folded the pants neatly and set them aside. He then went outside and found a soft patch of ground. From his space, he pulled out the stone hoe.
Yin He had just come back from collecting firewood. Seeing this, he put down the firewood and asked, “Brother, is this the hoe that Brother Zhuo Mu gave you?”
“Yes, I’m giving it a try.”
Yin He grinned and walked over excitedly. “It should work really well.”
Wen Ze’s eyes lit up with excitement. He rubbed his hands together, grasped the hoe, and swung it down—
“Crack.” The soil was turned over neatly, and a small hole was dug out.
It’s really useful!
He added more force and swung two more times. As long as he didn’t hit any stones, the soil came up easily.
Turning the stone hoe over, he checked where the stone met the wooden handle. It was solid, with no signs of loosening at all.
Yin He exclaimed, “How is this hoe so useful?!”
Wen Ze said happily, “Probably because of the resin.”
Yin He looked surprised. “Resin? I’ve never seen anything that sticks this well.”
“We’ll ask Zhuo Mu when he returns, then we’ll know.”
If he could collect more of this resin, he could make even more useful tools. Building a house would be much easier.
That afternoon, when Zhuo Mu returned from hunting, Wen Ze immediately handed him the pants he’d finished, urging him to try them on.
“See if there’s anything that doesn’t fit, and I’ll make some changes.”
“Then I’ll go take a bath and come back after getting dressed.”
“Okay.”
With the intense summer heat, Wen Ze found collecting firewood for boiling water a hassle. Instead, he chose to go to the stream in the evening to wash.
The large trees provided cover, so no one could see him.
However, perhaps out of consideration for him, Zhuo Mu always chose a farther place to take a bath.
Around half an hour later, Zhuo Mu returned with his hair half-dried and a slight dampness on his skin.
In addition to the short robe Wen Ze had made before, he wore the pants Wen Ze had just finished. The two fabrics were different colors, with the pants being much darker. Since he had a great build, the outfit looked really good on him.
“How is it?” Wen Ze asked eagerly.
Zhuo Mu gave a faint smile. “It fits well. No need to make any changes.”
“That’s good.” Wen Ze let out a sigh of relief and finally asked the question that had been on his mind all day.
“You want to collect this kind of resin?” Zhuo Mu asked after listening to him.
Wen Ze nodded. “Hmm, do you know where I can find it?”
“I do know where to find it, but relying on this kind of resin alone won’t be enough.”
“Huh? Then how did you do it?”
“I added juice from a tree called the Tamarix. After melting the resin in water, the juice from the leaves is poured in and stirred slowly.”
“Tamarix…” Wen Ze frowned. He had an idea of what it looked like, but he didn’t know where it grew.
Zhuo Mu noticed what he was thinking and said, “Since there’s no group hunting tomorrow, I can take you to gather the resin first.”
Wen Ze was pleasantly surprised. “Really? That’s great! Is it far?”
“It’s still within the southern part of the mountain tribe’s territory. We can set up the bags made from the animal hide and return by noon.”
Wen Ze thought for a moment and said, “Then I’ll prepare some food, just in case something unexpected happens. Also, I’ll bring a couple of baskets. We might find other good things!”
Zhuo Mu didn’t disagree. “Okay.”
The next day, Yin He stayed at home to look after the house, and the two of them went out in the morning fog.
Zhuo Mu changed into his beast form in an open area. His huge snake head turned, and his red vertical eyes stared at Wen Ze.
“Climb on.”
After living with Zhuo Mu for a while, Wen Ze was no longer afraid of his beast form but just wanted to avoid him out of instinct.
Although this time, he hid his fear well and, without hesitation, climbed onto his back.
“Don’t you want to sit in front?” the snow-white giant snake asked.
“No need, your back is wide enough.”
Wen Ze took off the basket from his back and placed it by his legs. He quietly thought to himself, “The scales are still cool, like a natural fridge.”
“Let’s go.”
After saying that, Zhuo Mu turned his head and started moving.
Wen Ze once again witnessed his speed. He could quickly climb or swim across grass mats, hills, and even rivers.
If the forest weren’t very long, he could go around it quickly.
If it were long, he would just crash into it. The thick tree trunk, which no person could hold onto, would snap with a sharp ‘crack’ when he passed by, which was really impressive.
The sheer brutal strength alone left Wen Ze in awe.
Trees kept falling on both sides, so he decided to lay flat on the giant snake’s back to avoid being scratched by the branches.
By the time the sun rose completely, Zhuo Mu stopped and said to Wen Ze, “We’re here.”
He slid off the giant snake, who then turned back into his human form.
In front of them was an unfamiliar forest, with thin tree trunks, very tall canopies, and a wide gap between each tree.
But as Wen Ze looked deeper, there were short bushes growing everywhere, blocking the light from the top and sides, making it look really dark.
Even the grass on the ground was unfamiliar to Wen Ze.
“We’re really far from the tribe now, aren’t we?”
“Yes, a little further, and we’ll be in another tribe’s territory,” Zhuo Mu replied.
Wen Ze was shocked. They had actually reached the border of the tribe.
“Let’s go this way.” Zhuo Mu quickly figured out the direction, grabbed the basket from the ground, and started walking ahead.
Wen Ze paused for a second, then quickly caught up, “Zhuo Mu, let me carry it.”
“Don’t worry about it.”
He refused, and Wen Ze couldn’t forcefully take it away, so he just followed him silently.
The two of them moved through the forest for a while when Wen Ze’s ears twitched, and he felt that he had heard some sound.
He listened more closely, but it was gone.
Was it just an illusion?
Ahead, Zhuo Mu stopped and looked into the dark forest, his face growing serious.
Wen Ze’s heart tightened, and he immediately asked, “What’s wrong? Is there any danger?”
Zhuo Mu said, “There might be something over there.”
Turning his head to look over, he added, “It’s not dangerous.”
Wen Ze relaxed and said with a smile, “Right, with a warrior like you here, I don’t have to be afraid even in the wild.”
Zhuo Mu slowly shifted his eyes away and said nothing.
Wen Ze leaned forward and asked curiously, “Should we go check it out later?”
Zhuo Mu nodded. “Sure.”
The two continued forward, and soon, Zhuo Mu led Wen Ze to a tree. After finding a good spot, he took out a bone knife and carefully made a Y-shaped cut on the tree trunk.
Next, he took the animal hide bag from Wen Ze and tied it to the tree trunk, leaving the opening wide.
Then Wen Ze saw the crystal resin flowing slowly and stickily along the path he had just cut, finally dripping into the animal hide bag with a slight “plop” sound.
Wen Ze bent down, his black eyes shining. “Is this it?”
“Mm,” Zhuo Mu replied, “We’ll leave it here for two days, and the bag should be full by then. There are still a few trees left, so let’s make sure to place everything properly.”
Wen Ze readily agreed, “Okay, just tell me where they are, and we’ll set them down separately.”
Once all the bags were in place, Wen Ze excitedly said, “Let’s go, let’s go see what’s over there!”
Zhuo Mu smiled slightly, and this time, it was Wen Ze who led the way.
Wen Ze didn’t know how Zhuo Mu sensed things, but since he was a wolf half-beastman, he relied mainly on his sense of smell and hearing.
Afraid of missing something valuable, Wen Ze also shifted into his beast form and grew out his wolf ears.
Two fluffy, thick, black-and-white ears stood up on top of his head. They twitched from time to time.
Wen Ze didn’t even realize that the fur on the tips of his wolf ears swayed back and forth as they moved.
That cute little fur caught Zhuo Mu’s attention, and he couldn’t help but look at them several times.
Once Wen Ze grew out his beast ears, his hearing was greatly enhanced.
He finally recognized that it was the sound of a wild animal crying in pain.
To figure out where the sound was coming from, they kept stopping and going. Finally, they pushed through a shrub and saw what was ahead.
“Is that a calf?” he exclaimed.
The animal lay on the ground with a sharp tree branch pierced through its leg. It struggled occasionally, and it was clear that it was a young cow.
As an agricultural student, it was impossible that he didn’t even know a calf!
It’s called a “young calf,” but that’s just because its fur hasn’t grown out yet, its head and mouth are all round, and its horns are just tiny little stubs, not because it’s small.
Wen Ze estimated that when it stood up, it would be about 1.5 meters tall.
He was only 1.8 meters tall right now.
The ground around it was extremely muddy, and several trees had fallen. It must have struggled violently and was now exhausted, so it could only cry out.
But none of that was important. What made Wen Ze’s heart race was—
