Farming in the Beast World, Leading the Whole Tribe to Prosperity | Chapter 25: Double-Skin Milk

The double-skin milk in the pot had been steaming for a while, filling the air with a tempting smell that seemed to say, “Come and eat me!”

After adding honeycomb and thoroughly mixing the egg whites, the milky aroma not only became sweet but also gained an extra layer of smoothness. Just the scent alone felt like a soothing massage for the nose.

And that was nothing compared to the mouthwatering sensation—the kind that made swallowing even the simplest food feel like a challenge.

While Wen Ze and Zhuo Mu managed to stay composed, little Yin He could not contain his excitement. His heart seemed to have flown straight into the pot. Every now and then, he would glance over, eagerly reporting to Wen Ze, “Brother, the water is boiling now!”

“Hmm,” Wen Ze curled his lips into a smile. “Just wait a little longer; it is not fully cooked yet.”

“Oh, okay.” Yin He blinked expectantly and asked, “Should I save some room in my stomach?”

Wen Ze chuckled, “No need, I only made a few bowls—it’s just enough to serve as a dessert after the meal.”

Yin He took another sniff, marveling with fascination, “It smells so good…”

Breakfast time felt longer than usual, but the thought of double-skin milk made the wait worthwhile.

Finally, when Wen Ze announced, “It’s about ready. I’ll bring it out,” Yin He let out an excited “Woo!” and sprang to his feet. “Brother, why don’t I do it? So you don’t burn yourself! My paw pads are thicker!”

This time, Wen Ze did not refuse. “Alright, you do it.”

Carefully, Yin He carried out several bowls and placed them on the edge of the stove.

Wen Ze pinched the leaves on top and gently lifted them off—

The milk had set into a pale yellow mousse-like texture. Since Wen Ze did not strain it, the surface was not entirely smooth, but it gave the milk skin a very distinct and textured appearance.

The rich aroma of milk and sweetness wafted through the air with the rising steam.

Yin He, seeing such a dish for the first time, exclaimed in awe, “Wow! Brother, this looks so beautiful!”

Wen Ze instructed him, “Go grab a few clean wooden spoons. There is just one final step left before it is ready to eat.”

Yin He replied eagerly, “Got it!”

He turned around to fetch the spoon, while Wen Ze went into the cave and brought out a small basin of berries.

These were ones he had gathered earlier. They looked somewhat like raspberries but were purplish-red in color, larger in size, and more sour in taste.

After ripening in the cave for two days, the berries had developed a richer color. In addition to their strong fruity aroma, they now carried a faint hint of wine fragrance.

Zhuo Mu took the initiative to come over and joined him in sorting the things in the basket and washing the fruits.

Wen Ze thought to himself, “If I pick too much fruit and cannot finish eating it, maybe I can try making some fruit wine with the ones that do not taste as good.”

But then he realized he did not have any yeast and was not sure if fermentation alone would work.

“Wouldn’t want to ruin the fruit if it does not turn out well,” he thought.

Aside from fruits, grains and milk could also be used to make alcohol. Grains were out of the question since he did not have any.

As for milk… he had no idea where to start.

While thinking it over, his hands did not stop moving. After carefully washing the deep purple berries, he used a spoon to carefully place the glistening, water-beaded berries in the center of the double-skin milk as a decoration.

The deep purple berries complemented the pale-yellow dessert beautifully. Their distinct and wonderful aromas blended, making the dish as pleasing to the eyes as to the nose.

Wen Ze admired his creation, clapped his hands in satisfaction, and said with a smile, “Let’s eat!”

Yin He had been waiting for those words. Excited, he picked up one of the bowls.

Suddenly he hesitated, he doesn’t know where to start with his spoon.

“Brother, this looks so beautiful… I almost don’t want to eat it.”

Wen Ze laughed heartily. “What’s there to hesitate about? We’ve got a cow now—there will always be more milk to enjoy.”

Hearing that, Yin He finally scooped up a spoonful and brought it to his mouth with careful attention.

Wen Ze noticed Zhuo Mu had not moved and asked, “Why aren’t you eating?”

Zhuo Mu replied, “You two enjoy it. I’ll pass.”

“No, you can’t refuse.” Wen Ze stopped him, placing a bowl directly into his hands. “Not only did you help milk the cows, but the honeycomb was also exchanged for sulfur soap. You played a big part in this, so you should eat it.”

Zhuo Mu quietly looked at him for a few seconds. He couldn’t argue with him, so he just smiled a little and picked up the bowl.

Wen Ze was the last to eat. As for the taste, having been spoiled by modern “science and enhanced flavors,” it did not amaze him as much as he had imagined.

The texture was not particularly smooth either.

But its strength lay in its pure and authentic flavor. The rich, natural taste filled his mouth, and as he lightly chewed, the silky texture of the double-skin milk flowed down his throat. The refreshing breeze from the grass outside brushed against his face, making him feel as though he were momentarily floating on soft clouds, with the sweet and tangy berries scattered like tiny islands around him.

What made it truly special was the effort it took to create something so easily available in modern times.

Food infused with sweat and a sense of accomplishment—how could it not taste amazing? This was a flavor he knew he would never forget for the rest of his life.

He and Zhuo Mu took their time, savoring each bite, while Yin He ate much faster. Before long, his entire bowl was emptied.

“This is so fragrant and sweet… especially the honeycomb inside. It’s just too delicious,” Yin He said, his voice trembling as if he might cry. “Brother, my favorite food now is definitely this double-skin milk.”

Wen Ze felt the happiness that the sweet treat brought him and could not help but laugh. He reached out to ruffle Yin He’s fluffy hair.

“This time, I traded some sulfur soap with the people in the tribe for the honeycomb. If you like it, I will make it for you again. But, you know,” Wen Ze teased, “when I made the stir-fried meat with scallions and fried mushrooms before, you also said those were your favorites. And later…”

Yin He automatically filled in the unfinished sentence in his mind: “Then I got tired of it.”

His face turned red, and he held the empty bowl. “I won’t get tired of this! I’ll never get tired of it in my whole life!”

Wen Ze burst out laughing. “Hahaha!”

Zhuo Mu, listening to the conversation between the two brothers, smiled even more deeply.

There were two bowls of double-skin milk left, and neither he nor Wen Ze ate them—they saved them all for Yin He.

As Wen Ze cleaned up the dishes, he noticed that Zhuo Mu hadn’t left yet and asked, “Aren’t you going hunting today?”

Zhuo Mu gave him a meaningful look. “Hmm, I have other plans.”

Wen Ze didn’t think much of it and brought up another matter.

“I promised the people in the tribe that I’d make another batch of sulfur soap. Could you point me in the direction of a hot spring? I want to go find some sulfur ore.”

“When are you planning to go?”

“I need to work on clearing some land in the morning. If all goes well… this afternoon?”

“Then I’ll take you there. The path is tricky, and it’s easy to get lost.”

Wen Ze’s eyes lit up. “That’s perfect! Oh, that reminds me, I also wanted to take some time to gather saltwater and collect some seashells.”

“Are we running low on salt?”

“No, we still have enough. I just want to try adding some to the soap. The soap we’re making now, even when it solidifies, feels a bit too soft—it lacks a good texture. But you don’t need to take me for that; I already know where the salt sea is.”

“We’ll see,” Zhuo Mu replied.

The beast world also has oceans and islands, and there are said to be beastman tribes living on those places.

The Southern Mountain Tribe is located in the mountains, with freshwater sources in their territory, and the real ocean is far from them.

But there is a stream with a very high salt content near their tribe. The salt everyone uses comes from the evaporation of that water, and that’s why they call it the “Salt Sea.”

Wen Ze suspects there might be a salt mine underneath.

He plans to bring some tools and dig deeper into the stream. Who knows? He might just uncover some natural saltwater.

Salt water has so many uses. If he can find some, at the very least, he will not have to go through the hassle of filtering wood ash every time he makes soap.

And if he manages to find some beans later, he might even make some tofu to enjoy…

Thinking about the taste of tofu, he worked even harder.

After tidying up the house and making sure the calf was securely tied, he strapped on a basket and waved to Zhuo Mu. “I’m going to clear the land with Yin He now!”

To his surprise, Zhuo Mu walked over and said, “I’ll go with you.”

“Huh?” Wen Ze froze for a moment.

“You’re going to clear the land, right? Let’s go.”

“You want to help? Are you sure it won’t delay your own tasks??”

“No. I was planning to clear some land as well,” Zhuo Mu said calmly. “Most of the pottery is almost unusable, so I need to fire a new batch.”

“Oh, I see,” Wen Ze understood immediately. “You’re right, a lot of them have cracks.”

“Also…” A rare trace of awkwardness appeared on Zhuo Mu’s usually composed face. “When it comes to clearing land, I may not be much help. I hope you don’t mind.”

Wen Ze immediately said, “It’s great that you can help, why would I mind?”

The house was located about a thousand meters from Zhuo Mu’s cave, so they arrived after just a short walk. Neither Zhuo Mu nor Yin He had transformed into their beast form.

As soon as they arrived, a group of black, white, and gray bears came running toward them, each carrying their half-beastman partners.

These big bears were generally over seven meters tall, and some were so tall that when they stood up, they reached over ten meters. When they ran, the ground seemed to shake, making the scene quite impressive.

Wen Ze couldn’t help but wonder if the solid ground in the tribe was something they had created by walking on it.

Wait a minute, Wen Ze looked toward the back of the group and slowly widened his eyes.

These weren’t the two-meter “little bears” like Yin He, but real baby bears that were about a meter tall, with round heads and round backs. Their eyes were clear and lively, and when they ran, their soft little bodies wobbled cutely.

The little black bears and white bears were already cute enough, but there was even a black-and-white panda cub!

Wen Ze’s attention was immediately drawn to it. The soft little ears, the short tail, and the way those tiny bear ears moved with each step completely melted his heart!

If it weren’t for the presence of the cub’s father, he would have rushed up to hug it and give it a big squeeze!

When they were about 100 meters away, the adult beastmen shifted into their human forms.

Wen Ze spotted some familiar faces like Wu Ye, Ji Sha, and Bai Xia, as well as some he did not know well—such as the tall, strong man with black hair and gray eyes walking alongside Li Shui.

A cute little panda cub was currently tugging on the man’s pant leg, trying to climb onto his back.

Yin He’s close friends from the tribe also came over to join in the fun.

Bai Ling walked at the front, waving enthusiastically at Wen Ze. “Wen Ze, we’re here to help you clear the land!”

With so many people showing up, Wen Ze was both a bit overwhelmed and pleasantly surprised.

“I really didn’t expect you all to come,” he said shyly. “Did I mess up your hunting and gathering plans?”

Bai Ling came up to him, slinging an arm over his shoulder. “It’s no big deal if we go a little later. Besides, hunting and gathering every day gets so boring! Clearing the land is way more exciting. And it’s not just me—my father is curious about the house you’re building too, right?”

The last two words were directed at Sang Hui, as Bai Ling turned his head to ask him.

The gentle and refined young man gave Wen Ze a slight smile. “Yes, ever since you asked the tribe for red clay, I’ve been curious about how you plan to use it. Can you share?”

Wen Ze also smiled back. “There’s nothing to hide about it.”
