Farming in the Beast World, Leading the Whole Tribe to Prosperity
Farming in the Beast World, Leading the Whole Tribe to Prosperity | Chapter 26: Someone’s Coming

Unlike activities like weaving on a frame or making soap, which can be done behind closed doors, he needs to build a very large house because of how big Yin He’s beast form will be when he grows up.

Because of this, it was clear he couldn’t keep it a secret from others, so he decided to show it openly instead.

Once his house was complete, if someone from the tribe wanted to learn, it would save him the effort of teaching everything from scratch.

Just as he finished speaking, a group of beastmen and half-beastmen quickly gathered around, clearly just as curious as Sang Hui.

One of them asked, “Do we first shape the soil into the form of a house and then fire it, like making pottery?”

Someone quickly disagreed. “That’s impossible! It would crack during firing, and even if it didn’t, it’d be too fragile to be useful.”

“Then how do you make it? I just cannot figure it out.”

Wen Ze gave a faint smile and asked everyone, “Do you know what ‘bricks’ are?”

Many shook their heads in confusion and said, “We don’t have any idea.”

Sang Hui replied, “I’ve heard of something called stone bricks. They’re basically stones that are more regularly shaped, and some tribes use them for building houses.”

Wen Ze nodded at Sang Hui. “What I want to use is made from red clay soil. It is called mud bricks.”

He gestured with his hands and explained, “Red clay is sticky, right? After digging it up, you soak it in water overnight and stomp on it repeatedly to make it stickier. After that, you mix in some dry straw to make it stronger, and then you shape it into rectangular blocks.”

While speaking, he grabbed a wooden stick and drew a rectangular shape on the ground with a few quick strokes.

“Make them this size, let them dry, and they’ll be ready to use. Stack the dried clay bricks one by one, and you can build a wall.”

Everyone listened intently and was stunned by what they heard.

“Beast God, is that even possible? Just drying the bricks in the sun works?”

“It sounds simple, but will the wall be strong when it’s built?” someone asked.

After a moment of silence, Zhuo Mu spoke up, “The processed red clay is tough enough and should do fine against wind and rain.”

Wen Ze also added, “This is the wisdom that I learned from our ancestors. It’s not just ‘good enough’—it’s definitely reliable.”

“If properly maintained, rammed earth houses can last for a whole generation.”

The beastmen who were present thought over Zhuo Mu’s words and felt they made a lot of sense.

After all, they were incredibly strong, and there were few structures that could withstand their full force. Then again, it was not like they would charge around recklessly inside their homes…

“So, the houses are still made of earth? How is that different from living in a cave?” Wu Ye asked skeptically.

Bai Xia nodded in agreement. “Making clay bricks might be easier than it sounds, but it is still not as simple as digging a cave. Personally, I do not feel like putting in that much effort.”

Wen Ze did not bother to explain further. Words could only go so far—it would be better to let them see the results for themselves once the house was built.

“Red clay is used like this anyway. It is getting late, so let us start,” he said.

“Alright!” Everyone responded enthusiastically.

Wen Ze pointed out the plot of land he had chosen and said, “We need to clear the tall grass and remove the big stones. There are also two trees that need to be cut down. The ground does not have to be leveled since we will be digging the foundation later.”

Before anyone could ask what a “foundation” was, Wen Ze turned to Zhuo Mu, “Can you help me assign tasks to everyone?”

As a seasoned warrior of the tribe, Zhuo Mu does not talk much, but he is great at leading teams.

Zhuo Mu nodded. “Okay.”

With his help, the group was soon divided, with the adults and teenagers taking on the work.

The young ones, who were too small to take part, quickly crowded around Wen Ze and Zhuo Mu.

Although they had not yet learned to change into their beast forms, they were already able to talk. In their soft, childish voices, they all spoke at once, asking, “Uncle Zhuo Mu, what about us?”

“I want to help Brother Wen Ze too!”

Suddenly, one of them paused and sniffed the air. “Huh? What’s that smell? It’s so nice!”

A few little bears immediately turned their attention toward the source, and they moved in a bit closer, sniffing at the smell coming from the two.

Their short noses twitched, and Jia Yi, the panda cub from the Li Shui family, suddenly lit up and called out, “It smells like beast milk!”

The other little ones noticed it too and refused to fall behind. “And honey!”

“I smell fruit too!”

“It smells amazing!”

The little bears started shouting excitedly, their mouths watering in anticipation.

They were not demanding to eat anything, but they stared at him with wide, eager eyes and used their soft, fluffy paw pads to tug at his pant legs. Their innocent gestures were impossible to resist.

Wen Ze could not help but laugh helplessly, but at the same time, he could not help feeling a bit guilty for keeping the good things to himself.

Li Shui and his partner quickly walked over and pulled Jia Yi away.

“Remember what I told you on the way here? You are not supposed to bother the adults while they work,” Li Shui said with a serious expression to Jia Yi.

The little panda cub lowered its head, its ears drooping along with it and he let out a soft, bear-like whimper.

Wen Ze’s guilt deepened instantly, and he tried to comfort Jia Yi. “There’s still some milk left from this morning. Once the work is done, I’ll make something delicious for all of you.”

Li Shui froze for a second, then quickly refused. “No, no, we cannot let him get used to being so greedy.”

The other adults echoed the sentiment, pulling their own cubs close to their sides.

However, Jia Yi’s excitement was obvious; his little bear eyes were practically sparkling as he stared at Wen Ze.

Li Shui must have bathed him with sulfur soap earlier because he looked exceptionally clean now, and paired with his innocent, eager expression, he looked absolutely adorable.

Alright then! When he gets back to the cave, he’ll take out all the milk and make something for everyone to eat.

“Jia Yi.” A deep and serious male voice called out. The little panda cub instantly trembled and quickly ducked behind Li Shui to hide.

“Father,” the cub called obediently.

Wen Ze looked up, and Li Shui took the initiative to introduce him, “This is my partner, Qin Shan.”

He nodded slightly to show that he understood.

Yin He had a great friend named Qin Shu, who happened to be Qin Shan’s younger brother.

The two brothers are both beastmen and look very similar. Qin Shan has deep, well-defined features and a serious expression. Since he rarely smiles, the young ones in the tribe find him even scarier than the cold Zhuo Mu.

After educating the younger ones, the adults threw themselves into their work with great enthusiasm, and Wen Ze joined in as well.

He was a wolf half-beastman, but his claws were not sharp enough for the tasks at hand. Thankfully, he had prepared plenty of tools in advance.

Meanwhile, the other half-beastmen each contributed in their own way— some were pulling weeds, and others were clearing stones.

The ones doing the most effort were the beastmen. They turn into their beast forms, dig at the ground with their claws and easily turn soil over.

Only then did Wen Ze realize what Zhuo Mu meant when he said, “I cannot help much.”

Zhuo Mu’s beast form was a pure white giant python. Since he doesn’t have claws, he’s not really good at things like digging the ground.

With the dust flying in the air, Wen Ze quietly laughed to himself, “It’s quite strange, there’s actually something he’s not good at.”

But his laughter did not last long.

That was when he saw Zhuo Mu walking toward a tree. The tree was not old or particularly large, but it was still about as wide as a beastman’s waist.

Zhuo Mu glanced at it indifferently, then stretched out his arms and wrapped them around the tree trunk.

With his long legs planted firmly on the ground, he pushed off with a heavy force. His entire body tensed—waist, arms, and abs all working together.

What Wen Ze heard next was a terrifying series of creaks. Then the ground around the tree began to shake violently.

With a final burst of strength, Zhuo Mu clenched his teeth, his sharp jaw tightened and then he let out a muffled grunt—

Crack! Snap! Crash!

Countless roots were forcibly ripped apart as Zhuo Mu wrenched the tree out of the ground with his bare hands! Dirt flew everywhere as the massive tree was uprooted.

Wen Ze watched in shock as Zhuo Mu casually tossed the tree aside and flexed his wrists as if he had just finished a light warm-up.

Wait a second—how is him uprooting a massive tree easier than me pulling out a weed?

What terrifying strength!

“Whoa, Zhuo Mu, that’s incredible! You’re so strong!” Bai Xia exclaimed, noticing the commotion. “Perfect timing, there’s another tree over here. Why don’t you pull it out too?”

Wu Ye suddenly teased him, “Bai Xia, you’re clearly closer to the tree.”

Bai Xia opened his bear paw. “I don’t have as much strength as Zhuo Mu when I’m in human form.”

Wu Ye raised an eyebrow. “…But you’re not in human form right now, are you?”

The ten-meter-tall bear hesitated. Surely even a bear his size could pull out a tree, right?

Bai Xia shot Wu Ye a sideways bear glare. “I haven’t finished digging up this land yet.”

Ji Sha suddenly spoke bluntly. “Maybe he’s embarrassed because he remembers how, a few years ago during the warrior trials, Zhuo Mu pinned his human form to the ground and beat him.”

Bai Xia froze for a moment, then roared, “Who’s embarrassed? It’s just pulling out a tree! I’ll do it right now!”

Completely oblivious to the growing tension, Ji Sha added, “Are you going to do it in human form?”

Through gritted teeth, Bai Xia snarled, “…Human form it is!”

Sang Hui sighed helplessly, pinching the bridge of his nose before shooting Ji Sha a sharp look. “Focus on your own work.”

Ji Sha, being a bit slow, just said, “Oh, okay.”

Bai Xia had already made his declaration, so he walked towards the tree with a series of loud steps. He was stopped by Wu Ye, and the two large bears were arguing about something.

Meanwhile, Zhuo Mu walked past them, not sparing a single glance in their direction. He approached the next tree, wrapped his arms around it, and with a forceful tug—CRACK! Another tree was uprooted.

Bai Xia looked like he was about to collapse. “I already told you I would pull it out!”

Wen Ze had witnessed the entire scene. He squatted down on the ground and laughed so hard that his shoulders shake.

At that moment, he finally understood why everyone liked working together. It was honestly hilarious and so much fun.

The beastmen were incredibly strong, the half-beastmen were patient and meticulous, and the little ones occasionally made things more difficult…

What he originally expected to take half a month to finish was completed in less than half a morning.

Not only did they clear Wen Ze’s plot of land, but they also cleared an additional area to be used for stacking and firing pottery, a necessity for families like Zhuo Mu’s, which lacked the appropriate tools.

“Since we are already at this point,” Bai Ling glanced at the sky and asked for Sang Hui’s opinion, “why don’t we all make some pottery together?”

Sang Hui considered it for a moment. “Sure, let your father go collect some firewood.”

Making pottery requires digging up clay to shape the pieces, a delicate task best suited for the skilled hands of the half-beastmen.

Before Wen Ze could say anything, everyone naturally divided the tasks among themselves.

The yellow clay they used for firing arrived in a wet, sticky pile. A group of half-beastmen sat around the clay, talking and making pottery.

Wen Ze’s pottery skills were clumsy at best. While others had already crafted three neatly shaped pots, he had only managed one, and it turned out so poorly it embarrassed him.

Thinking of his two “family treasured pots,” he asked, “Did we exchange some pottery pieces from the Rainbow Sun Tribe before?”

Bai Ling nodded. “Yes, they have kilns, so their pottery is much more durable. But they are so arrogant. They don’t want any other supplies except for our red clay. It takes enough red clay for twenty pieces of pottery to exchange for one finished piece! It’s really outrageous.”

Wen Ze nodded. That ratio was indeed outrageous.

Li Shui sighed. “If only our tribe had a kiln.”

Bai Ling replied, “Don’t even think about it. The Rainbow Sun Tribe would never reveal how to build a kiln. It’s because of their pottery that they’ve become the strongest tribe in the area.”

Just then, a beastman called out their names as he ran over, “Zhuo Mu! Wu Ye! Sang Hui! The Rainbow Sun Tribe is here! The leader wants you to go over! Oh, and Wen Ze, you should come too!”

Please bear with me if I didn’t update right away 😅. I was either buried in work 💼… or buried in rereading the book 📖. (P.S. Most of the time I’m rereading it 🤭—so you know just how good the story is! 🌟)
