Farming in the Beast World, Leading the Whole Tribe to Prosperity
Farming in the Beast World, Leading the Whole Tribe to Prosperity | Chapter 65: The Finished Product

Wen Ze was somewhat familiar with Yu Qiao from the Feathered Fierce Tribe, the half-beastman who had discovered the potatoes. He looked at him and asked, “Yu Qiao, can all the half-beastmen from your tribe change their hands into bird claws?”

Yu Qiao straightened up slightly and answered seriously, “Most of us can. There are also two who aren’t bird-type half-beastmen, but they can still form claws.”

Wen Ze nodded. “Are the bird-type half-beastmen’s claws sharp?”

Yu Qiao shook his head. “No, they’re not.”

Wen Ze continued, “Among those who can form bird claws, whose are the sharpest and most agile?”

Yu Qiao thought for a moment. “For sharpness, it should be Chang Chuan.” He even glanced at the others from his tribe as he spoke.

The others nodded in agreement. “Yes, it’s Chang Chuan. He takes after his golden eagle father.”

Chang Chuan was the same half-beastman who had just taken off his shoes to show his support for Wen Ze. At that moment, his bright, clear eyes blinked in confusion, not quite understanding the situation.

Yu Qiao added, “If we’re talking about agility, that would probably be me? I can grow white bird claws. Wen Ze, why do you ask?”

Wen Ze smiled mysteriously. “I might need your help with something. Does anyone have extra wooden strips or sticks?”

A half-beastman raised his hand. “I have some.”

Wen Ze took a thick wooden stick, about the width of an arm, and walked over to Chang Chuan. “Try cutting this with your claws.”

Chang Chuan nodded. “Alright.”

Without changing his expression, he signaled for Wen Ze to step back. Then, with a light swipe of his claws—

A silver flash cut through the air. Crack! The wooden stick was sliced cleanly in half!

Wen Ze’s eyes lit up. He almost wanted to praise him outright—What a great pair of claws!

As expected from a golden eagle!

The half-beastmen in his tribe who could grow claws could also carve wood, but their claws weren’t as sharp as Chang Chuan’s.

Take his own wolf claws, for example—they were better suited for digging holes than for carving…

Wen Ze examined the clean cut on the wooden stick and clicked his tongue in amazement. “Not bad. Really impressive.”

Then, he turned to Yu Qiao. “Now, use your claws to carve out a round piece about the size of my thumb from this cut.”

Without hesitation, Yu Qiao took the stick and got to work.

His claws were incredibly agile, sending wood shavings flying.

Within seconds, he had carved out a perfect round piece exactly as Wen Ze had asked.

With this speed and precision, he could definitely handle crafting small parts!

Wen Ze was thrilled. “Great! Chang Chuan, Yu Qiao, you two stay by my side later and help me carve wood.”

The two exchanged a glance, overjoyed, and agreed without hesitation.

The others couldn’t help but feel envious.

They wanted to stick close to Wen Ze too and learn directly from him!

Meanwhile, Chi Yu and the others had already returned with the pottery. Hearing Wen Ze’s words, Chi Yu quickly asked, “Wen Ze, what about us?”

Wen Ze reassured them, “Don’t worry. You and Huo Lan have tasks too. Since you brought metal tools, some parts will need to be made by you.”

Chi Yu instantly relaxed and nodded enthusiastically. “Got it! We’ll follow your lead!”

“The rest of the people…” Wen Ze quickly glanced around and said, “Some will stay here to weave, and the rest will come with me to gather wood.”

“Oh right, Zhuo Mu!” Wen Ze called out.

The man had just returned from hunting and was handling the meat.

He turned his head. “I’m here.”

“Can you check on Sang Hui and Wu Ye in the tribe and see what they’re up to? Ask them to come over. If they’re busy, send someone else instead.”

Zhuo Mu didn’t hesitate. He put down the meat in his hands and stood up. “I’ll go now.”

“Alright, we’ll wait for you all to get back before starting.”

Last time, when Wen Ze designed new clothing styles and made a spinning wheel in the Rainbow Sun Tribe, the South Mountain Tribe had been talking about it for a while.

Now that he was improving the weaving frame again in his own tribe, of course, he had to bring them in.

While waiting, Wen Ze specifically spoke with Bai Han and Chi Yu, letting them know that the meat sausages, smoked meat, and meatballs he had promised their tribe would take another two days to prepare.

They didn’t mind—improving the weaving frame was more important.

About ten minutes later, Zhuo Mu returned with Sang Hui and Wu Ye.

Along with them came some familiar faces, including Bai Xia.

Sang Hui asked Wen Ze, “Zhuo Mu told me you’re improving the weaving frame?”

Wen Ze nodded. “That’s right.”

Sang Hui said, “Just tell us what we can do to help. I even brought Bai Ling along—he can change his hands into peacock claws, and they’re quite sharp.”

Bai Ling eagerly poked his head out and waved at Wen Ze.

“Don’t worry, there are plenty of things to do. Everyone can help. Now that we’re all here, let’s go gather some wood.”

Everyone responded enthusiastically, “Okay!”

With the experience of making the spinning wheel, they now knew exactly what kind of wood to look for.

With so many hands helping, it didn’t take long to gather a huge pile of wood.

Wen Ze directed the beastmen to move the wood while Huo Lan, Chang Chuan, and a few other half-beastmen shaped the pieces according to his instructions.

When it came to assembling the connecting structure, Yu Qiao stepped in.

With a few quick movements of his claws, he carved and adjusted the pieces so they fit together perfectly.

It was far more efficient than their previous method of repeatedly trimming with metal knives!

The first thing Wen Ze built was a large frame, similar to a bed.

It was about three meters long. Considering that half-beastmen generally had long arms, he made it 1.2 meters wide.

Pointing at the length, Sang Hui asked, “Will we really be able to weave fabric this wide?”

“No,” Wen Ze shook his head and pointed at the shorter side. “People will sit here. If everything goes well, the fabric will only be a little shorter than this.”

Sang Hui was surprised. “That’s still pretty wide!”

Wen Ze nodded.

Right now, the fabric they wove with the weaving frame was about half a meter wide. If they switched to this improved frame, they could weave fabric up to a meter wide.

Bai Ling couldn’t wait and asked, “What’s next?”

“Now we’ll try assembling the parts,” Wen Ze said.

This part required careful adjustments.

He glanced at the sky. The sun was already setting.

Turning to Bai Han and the others from different tribes, he asked, “Are you in a hurry to head back?”

It was a rare opportunity, so everyone shook their heads and sincerely said, “No rush. We don’t mind staying overnight. We can sleep anywhere.”

“With so many of us here, and the beastmen around, traveling at night wouldn’t be a problem anyway.”

Wen Ze understood. “Alright, then let’s push through a bit longer. Li Shui, can you prepare something simple for everyone to eat?”

Li Shui nodded. “Sure, I’ll steam some roots and roast some meat.”

Bai Han and the others immediately offered to exchange supplies for the food.

Since no one was leaving, Wen Ze gave some quick instructions before getting back to work.

Dinner was simple, and no one was picky.

Using the principles of the weaving frame, Wen Ze had everyone help make several components, such as the thread beam for holding the threads and the horizontal bar for lifting the warp.

Once he secured these parts to the frame, either with the wooden connecting structure or hemp ropes, he started noticing some issues.

For example…

“Look, when you lift the thread by hand, isn’t it a bit inconvenient? You have to keep bending over.”

Sitting at the front of the weaving frame, Wen Ze tried lifting the threads himself.

Before anyone else could react, Zhuo Mu, who had been watching him closely, immediately understood.

“You’re right. If we have to keep bending over like this, it’ll be even more tiring than using the backstrap weaving frame.”

Wen Ze muttered, “Since that’s the case… let’s make a foot pedal! That way, we can use our feet to pull the threads!”

Zhuo Mu nodded. “Good idea.”

The others imagined it for a moment and agreed, “Yes! That’ll make things much easier for our hands!”

Wen Ze got up and paced back and forth a few times, discussing with everyone how to add the pedal.

Since making parts was quick now, no one was afraid of making mistakes. They threw out all sorts of suggestions.

Although Wen Ze rejected most of them outright, their enthusiasm didn’t die down at all.

The first two pedal they made didn’t work well, but Wen Ze quickly learned from the experience. By the third attempt, the pedal finally looked decent.

At this stage, the weaving frame had taken shape, and they could start weaving fabric.

When Wen Ze asked everyone to hold the shaky wooden frame steady, he skillfully coordinated his hands and feet, weaving a small yet uneven strip of cloth. The entire group erupted in cheers.

“This means it’s working, right? If we reinforce the frame a bit, it should be good to go!”

“We won’t need to use the backstrap weaving frame anymore—we can use this one instead!”

“This is way better than before!”

“Beast God above, this is really impressive!”

The excited voices were so loud that Wen Ze covered his ears and joked, “Take it easy! Don’t shake our cave apart—we still need to sleep here tonight!”

Everyone burst into laughter.

“Alright,” Wen Ze clapped his hands, “We’ve made it this far, so the rest will be easier to adjust. It’s getting late, so let’s call it a day. You can either head back to your own tribes or stay over in our tribe.”

Sang Hui stepped forward and said, “Our tribe has ten empty caves that can be used for shelter. If you’re staying overnight, follow me.”

Since the weaving frame wasn’t finished yet, no one wanted to waste time going back and forth.

But with Chi Yu and Huo Lan included, that meant four different tribes were now competing for these ten caves.

To avoid disturbing Wen Ze, everyone followed Sang Hui for a while before they started arguing heatedly over who would get to stay.

In the end, several tribe leaders decided to head back since they had matters to handle in their own tribes.

The Beastmen from the Feathered Fierce Tribe, who could grow wings to fly and travel faster, followed Luan Xun back to their tribe.

They weren’t worried at all about being left behind when Wen Ze started working the next day.

After all, Chang Chuan and Yu Qiao were the main forces behind making the parts!

They didn’t say it out loud, but deep down, they were incredibly proud.

As they flew back, the group cheered excitedly. “Chang Chuan, Yu Qiao, you two really stood out today!”

“Even Wen Ze praised your claws! Haha!”

“Forget about the other tribes; even we were envious of you.”

Even Luan Xun joined in, saying, “Chang Chuan, Yu Qiao, make sure you learn well from Wen Ze! When we go back, we’ll be relying on you to build our weaving frame!”

Chang Chuan and Yu Qiao had never experienced this kind of attention before and were caught off guard by all the praise.

Take Yu Qiao, for example—everyone knew he was good with his hands, but there were plenty of skilled half-beastmen in the tribe, so he was never considered particularly special.

And Chang Chuan? He was even less likely to stand out. He was carefree by nature, and every time he went out gathering, he’d always bring back less than the others. The idea of people looking up to him like this was unheard of.

Yet today, he had actually outshone even the more “outstanding” Beastmen in such an important task as building the frame!

How could he not be happy? How could he not be beaming?

Yu Qiao could still be a little shy and modest, but Chang Chuan couldn’t help but burst with excitement! He even flapped his wings and did two loops in the air!

But he got too carried away and lost his balance, he suddenly dropped quite a bit!

Luckily, he had been flying high enough. He flailed around in a panic and barely managed to steady himself—otherwise, he would’ve crashed straight into the ground!

“Phew…” He let out a long breath, still feeling shaken. “That scared me to death.”

His companions laughed and scolded him, “How can you even say that! We’re the ones who got scared! You half-beastmen can’t fully change like us beastmen, yet you still dare to spin around with just those wings? You’re way too bold!”

Chang Chuan stuck out his tongue guiltily. “My bad, my bad. I won’t do it again.”

“You better not!”

Meanwhile, over at the South Mountain Tribe, the ten caves were divided among the half-beastmen who had stayed behind.

After settling them in, Sang Hui turned and went back to Zhuo Mu’s cave.

Wen Ze had already taken a bath. His black hair was still half-dry and slightly messy as he sat inside the straw shelter, absentmindedly rubbing his chin while staring at the unfinished weaving frame.

It wasn’t until Sang Hui spoke that he snapped out of his thoughts.

“Uncle, is everyone settled?” Wen Ze asked.

“Yeah. I came to talk to you about the pottery kiln.”

“Go ahead.”

“The pottery we’ve been firing is really popular. We need to fire a few more batches, which means we also need to make more charcoal.”

Wen Ze nodded. “Got it. Tomorrow, after I make some improvements to the weaving frame, I’ll gather the others to burn some charcoal.”

But to his surprise, Sang Hui shook his head. “Before that, let’s fire the bricks you wanted first.”

Wen Ze was stunned. “But making pottery is a big deal for the whole tribe. It doesn’t feel right to delay it just to build my house…”

“There’s nothing wrong with it. Without you, we wouldn’t even have our own kiln, let alone be able to fire charcoal or colored pottery. Firing bricks for you first isn’t just my decision—it’s what the whole tribe wants.”

Zhuo Mu also walked over; his deep eyes fixed on Wen Ze. “I agree with Sang Hui. Tomorrow, you can stay here and work on improving the weaving frame. I’ll take the others to reinforce the pottery kiln.”

Right now, the kiln was built for firing pottery, but Zhuo Mu planned to change it so it could fire bricks as well.

The adjustment wouldn’t be difficult. Back when they first fired pottery, they had already ended up with some brick-like pieces.

Sang Hui added, “Ji Sha is going hunting in the morning. In the afternoon, I’ll have him come over and help you.”

Wen Ze said, “Then I’ll stop by in the afternoon too, just to check on how it’s coming along.”

Zhuo Mu agreed. “Sounds good. If everything works out, we’ll start gathering firewood tomorrow. Do we need charcoal for firing bricks too?”

Seeing how serious he was—like he’d go gather charcoal without hesitation if needed—Wen Ze, with his black hair and dark eyes, smiled. “No, just firewood will do.”

At his smile, Zhuo Mu’s gaze softened slightly, and he let out a quiet “hmm” to acknowledge.

Sang Hui glanced between the two of them thoughtfully.

With the brick-firing settled, they moved on to discussing dyes.

Wen Ze said, “Let’s wait until the other tribes have left. In the meantime, the half-beastmen going out to gather can collect more flowers with rich colors.”

Sang Hui nodded. “Alright.”

***

The next morning, Wen Ze got up early.

He washed up, fed the cows, milked them, checked the fields, and made breakfast. By the time he was done with everything, the morning light had already broken through the cool mist.

After breakfast, Wen Ze sipped on some yogurt and said to Zhuo Mu, “The tree bark soaking in the pond should be ready soon. Can you remind me later? We need to fish them out and boil them.”

Zhuo Mu nodded. “Got it.”

Yin He eagerly volunteered, “Brother, how do you cook them? Want me to do it?”

Wen Ze chuckled. “No rush. It’s not that urgent, and this is my first time doing it, so I’m not even sure about all the steps yet. There are a lot of people at home today, so no one will have time to watch over you. Just head to the tribe later and play with Qin Shu and the others.”

Yin He nodded excitedly. “Okay! Oh, right—Brother, the Yangyang grass in the fields are almost overgrown. When are we going to harvest and eat it?”

Wen Ze sighed. “After we get through this busy period.”

Yin He responded with an “Oh,” then glanced around with his bright black-and-white eyes, clearly thinking about something.

Sure enough, not long after breakfast, several people from the tribe arrived.

Wen Ze had the strong Beastmen help move the half-finished weaving frame to an open space. Then, as the crowd gathered around him, he said, “I thought about a few improvements last night.”

Wu Ye blinked in surprise. “I thought we just needed to reinforce it, and it’d be good to go. You can still improve it further?”

The others agreed, “Yes, it already seems pretty useful as it is.”

Wen Ze smiled, “Of course it can be improved. For example, the slope is too flat right now. If it were tilted like this,” he gestured with his hand, “I think it would be easier to step on the pedals and pass the shuttle through.”

He was considering it based on his past life’s experience, and the others, who clearly didn’t have this experience, just listened in amazement.

“Also, the cloth I wove yesterday isn’t as smooth as the ones made with the weaving frame we used before, so I thought of making a rectangular thread brush to help straighten the fibers.”

“Oh, and another idea—what if we fix the spinning wheel to the side of the weaving frame? That way, you could spin thread and weave at the same time!”

“Of course, these are just my ideas. Whether they work or not, we’ll have to test them and see.”

At first, everyone looked surprised, but now their expressions had turned into confusion. Someone hesitated before asking,

“Maybe your weaving wasn’t smooth because you’re still getting used to it. How about letting other half-beastmen try it instead?”

“Thread brush, what’s that? I can’t even imagine it.”

“The spinning wheel is so small, but the weaving frame is so big. Can they really be connected? How would that even work?”

If Wen Ze had to explain everything one by one, they’d probably be talking until nightfall without getting any actual work done.

So, he simply clapped his hands and said, “Alright, let’s figure it out as we work! Seeing it in action will make it much easier to understand.”

After all, creating it is the best way to test if it will work.

By now, listening to Wen Ze had practically become second nature for everyone.

No matter what he wanted to do, they believed he could make it work!

Without wasting any time, Wen Ze assigned tasks to the confused crowd.

Tilting the weaving frame was the easy part—just propping up one side would do the trick.

Connecting the spinning wheel and the weaving frame together makes things much simpler, with the “hemp thread” serving as the link between them.

As for the thread brush, Wen Ze gave a brief description, and Yu Qiao immediately understood.

It was made of a wooden board, about the same length as the frame and roughly half an arm wide, with finely spaced vertical slits carved in the middle.

If a metal knife had been used to carve it, controlling the force would have been difficult, and the gaps would have been uneven in width.

But using his claws was a different story. Every stroke he made had just the right amount of force, and the slits turned out perfectly even.

After spending the entire day yesterday working under everyone’s watchful eyes, Yu Qiao no longer felt nervous today.

Before long, he finished a somewhat rough but perfectly usable thread brush and handed it to Wen Ze.

Wen Ze called Bai Ling over and had him sit in front to weave a section of fabric without using the thread brush.

Bai Ling put in his full attention and effort, but as he wove, the crease between his brows tightened.

When Wen Ze finally asked, “Alright, how does it feel to weave on this?”

Bai Ling hesitated for a moment, then said in confusion, “I’m not sure if it’s because I’m not used to this weaving frame, but it doesn’t feel as convenient as the previous one we had. Especially with these hemp threads, I have to keep untangling them, or they’ll knot.”

“The fabric is wider, but it takes more time. I… I feel like the previous weaving frame is still better…”

He said the last part hesitantly, worried that Wen Ze would be disappointed or that the others would scold him for being ungrateful.

Fortunately, Wen Ze remained calm, and the others only looked surprised as they asked, “That can’t be right. The weaving frame should be easier to use than a backstrap weaving frame.”

Wen Ze raised a hand. “Alright, let’s have the others from different tribes try it too. Everyone, share your thoughts.”

Several half-beastmen took turns testing it, and surprisingly, they all came to the same conclusion as Bai Ling.

As everyone’s expressions grew serious, Wen Ze remained unfazed. He calmly stepped forward and used his black-silver knife to remove the threads from the front, then carefully re-threaded them through the thread brush.

This process was tedious and required patience.

Luckily, after all this time, patience was something he had plenty of.

Once he was done securing the threads again. He said to Bai Ling and the others, “Try again.”

They didn’t understand what had changed, but they trusted Wen Ze and obediently sat back down to weave.

The moment they started, they immediately noticed something different!

Bai Ling’s eyes widened in shock as he exclaimed, “The thread is so smooth! It’s perfectly even! I don’t need to worry about straightening it anymore!”

As he spoke, his hands and feet kept moving, weaving nonstop.

The wooden sticks moved up and down, and with a flick of the thread brush, the shuttle in his hand slid back and forth. The threads on the weaving frame quickly turned into a neatly woven section of fabric!

Compared to earlier, the weaving speed had increased several times over!

Not to mention, the fabric it weaves is smooth, beautiful, and much wider than what a backstrap weaving frame can produce!

And the best part? They can stay seated on the frame without having to constantly keep their legs and waist tense just to keep the threads straight!

“This is really impressive! And it’s easy to use!” Bai Ling’s eyes sparkled with excitement, and he couldn’t bring himself to stop. “Just adding one more part made such a huge difference!”

He had already lost count of how many times he’d marveled at Wen Ze’s brilliance.

Seriously, how could he be this smart?!

He must be blessed by the Beast God!

Absolutely incredible—so impressive!

Seeing this, the others were itching to try too.

“Bai Ling, let me have a turn!”

“Isn’t it my turn now?”

“Bai Ling, don’t overwork yourself. Let me take over.”

But Bai Ling wasn’t satisfied and refused to leave. “I’m fine! I can weave for three days and nights without a problem!”

The others gritted their teeth and tried to pull him away, but he hugs the frame like he was glued to it, yelling, “I’m not leaving! I’m not leaving!”

Wen Ze noticed that despite Bai Ling swaying around so much, the fabric still came out smooth and even. He felt a huge sense of relief.

Their improved weaving frame was a success!

Unfortunately, before he could fully enjoy the moment, the already somewhat fragile frame suddenly collapsed with a loud crash—thanks to everyone’s enthusiasm!

Wen Ze: “…”

Everyone: “…”

An awkward silence filled the air.
