Chapter 1: Traveling Back to the Republic of China Era, Starting by Clearing Out My Ex-Husband’s Brother’s House
“‘Beloved by the Warlord,’ Chen Yali, I can’t believe you’re reading something so dumb…”
“What’s dumb about it? You’re the one who only watches those absurd anti-Japanese dramas all day. What do you know about love?”
“Love? She transmigrates to the Republic era and doesn’t fight the Japanese or do something meaningful—instead, she becomes some guy’s concubine? Don’t you think the female lead is both dumb and completely obsessed with romance?”
“What do you know? The book’s historical setting is fictional…”
“Even if it’s fictional, I bet there are still Japanese in it! If it were me, I’d be killing Japanese devils every day and using their heads as drinking snacks…”
“Jiang Yu! I’m eating right now! Can you not be so gory?”
“How could my words be gorier than what those damn Japanese did?”
“You… whatever! I’m not wasting my breath on an ignorant brat like you.”
“Fine, don’t then… ow!”
Stimulated by the voice from Chen Yali’s audiobook, which gave her goosebumps all over, Jiang Yu leaned halfway off her top bunk to reach for the earplugs on the desk below.
Who would’ve thought her balance would suddenly falter—and she’d fall headfirst to the floor, dying on the spot.
When she woke up again, she had already transmigrated into the very novel Chen Yali had been reading, becoming the dumb, love-obsessed female lead she’d been trashing just earlier.
Don’t ask her how she knew!
She had been forced to listen to that stupid novel the entire morning.
Piecing together the story’s plot with the memories of this body, Jiang Yu quickly figured things out.
Right now, it was the very beginning of the book—February 1938—and this body’s never-before-seen husband had finally returned from studying abroad.
Upon seeing her for the first time and disliking her traditional, submissive appearance, he immediately divorced her.
Her birth family? Her parents were already gone, and her only brother had gone off to join the revolution and hadn’t been heard from since.
In despair, this body’s original owner took her own life.
Right after that, the original female lead transmigrated into the body, bringing with her a bottomless storage space and an invisibility superpower.
For reasons unknown, that female lead left again.
Thankfully, the space and invisibility ability remained.
Which ended up benefiting Jiang Yu, who transmigrated afterward.
But!
“Damn it! Why didn’t they say anything about the Japanese situation in the book?!”
Racking her brain to recall the plot, all she could remember was an over-the-top description of how beautiful the female lead was…
How handsome and powerful the male lead was…
And how he instantly fell in love with the FL because of her looks and rebellious personality.
Then came the typical romance melodrama—emotional rollercoasters, intense passion.
Meanwhile, the female lead used her new warlord concubine status to slap her ex-husband’s family in the face.
In the end, the male lead divorced his other women and lived happily ever after with the FL.
What the hell!
It was nothing but dramatic romance, face-slapping and revenge on scumbags—she couldn’t even be bothered to remember a single extra detail.
They made “Republic of China” nothing but a romance backdrop, huh?
“Miss! Housekeeper Cheng is here, says he needs to speak with you.”
“Housekeeper Cheng?” The servant from her ex-husband’s family?
“What does he want? Never mind, just let him wait for me in the drawing room.”
Still getting used to the use of the storage space and invisibility powers, Jiang Yu was trying to figure out her next step.
Then it hit her—in the book, after the ex-husband’s family publicly divorced her for the sake of saving face, they allowed her to take all her dowry with her in front of the whole town.
Now that Housekeeper Cheng had come, it was clearly to lure her back under the guise of a visit…
So they could trick her into quietly bringing her dowry back to the in-laws’ house.
She remembered that in the book, after the FL transmigrated, she tried to reason with her ex-in-laws when they tried this slimy move.
But she seriously underestimated their shamelessness—they not only took her dowry and the rest of her birth family’s assets…
They even knocked her out and sold her to a brothel—where she ended up meeting the male lead for the first time…
Tsk! Where was her brain? Holding a space ability and invisibility, and she still used a weak little body to try reasoning with those people?
If they cared about reason, they wouldn’t have divorced her in the first place—especially when her father had once saved their entire family.
Not to mention, her ex-husband’s overseas studies and the whole family’s livelihood were all thanks to her dowry!
Thinking of this, Jiang Yu quickly went to the front hall, directly told Housekeeper Cheng to send someone to move the items, and then returned to her room to sleep.
She needed to rest well and conserve her energy—because tonight, she was going to empty out her ex-husband’s house.
Heh!
She had already made up her mind: since the history in this novel was unreliable, and the plot couldn’t help her, and since her brain wasn’t cut out for some grand cause to rejuvenate China…
Then the only plan was to clear out her ex-husband’s house tonight and leave this small town to go look for Japanese invaders outside.
She’d use her storage space and invisibility skills to mess with them.
Of course!
If she could kill a few Japanese devils along the way, even better.
She’d treat it as vengeance for her fellow countrymen in this world—and her own world, too.
As for following the original plot? That could go to hell!
Whoever wanted to be some warlord’s concubine could knock themselves out.
As for those angsty, tormented love stories—not a chance!
Even in another world, hunting Japanese soldiers was way more appealing to her…
The more she thought about it, the more excited she got.
Unable to sleep, Jiang Yu simply dismissed her personal maid—who had clearly been bought off by the in-laws—and sent her to go “help” Housekeeper Cheng instead.
Then she locked the door, dropped the mosquito net, and hid in bed, continuing to practice using her storage space and invisibility powers.
Well, what could she say?
Anyone who had read enough novels and watched enough dramas had dreamed of having a personal pocket dimension and all kinds of supernatural powers.
She called it “practice,” but really, she just hadn’t gotten tired of playing around with it yet.
10 PM.
The entire town had quieted down.
After confirming the maid had fallen asleep, Jiang Yu instantly turned invisible and tiptoed out the door.
Guided by faint starlight and the body’s original memory, she quickly reached the gates of her ex-husband’s house.
She pulled a ladder out of her storage space, scaled the wall in a few swift moves, and headed straight for the storeroom according to her earlier plan.
But!
When she got to the storeroom and saw the locked door, it finally hit her—she didn’t have the key.
But that wasn’t a problem.
She’d already discovered earlier that her naturally strong strength from her past life had come with her—and it was now enhanced.
Uh… actually, the enhancement might’ve been a bit too much.
Looking at the iron lock she had just snapped apart with a light tug, Jiang Yu herself was shocked.
That thing was solid iron—easily over a pound or two!
What the hell?!
This was ridiculously OP!
Suddenly recalling those over-the-top anti-Japanese dramas where people ripped enemies apart with their bare hands, Jiang Yu thought… maybe this strength of hers could actually pull that off now.
But this wasn’t the time for that.
Her invisibility skill could only be used for four hours at a time.
After that, it needed a one-hour cooldown before it could be used again.
She had already spent almost half an hour getting here in the dark, and she needed to save time for the return trip.
Which meant—not much time left.
After glancing around and confirming there were no guards patrolling nearby…
Jiang Yu quietly slipped into the storeroom.
She closed the door behind her and pulled a kerosene lantern out of her storage space.
“Whoa! Looks like the only thing they didn’t do was take the doors off their hinges! This is perfect!”
Looking around the storeroom filled with familiar items, Jiang Yu grinned.
Earlier, when she asked Housekeeper Cheng to send people over to move things, it was all part of her plan—to get them to gather all the valuable items in one place.
That way, she could collect them into her storage space much faster.
