Chapter 7: Still Not Careful Enough, Not Sneaky Enough!
Damn it!
How could that guy run so fast?
And he got smart too, heading straight for the forest!
If she wasn’t worried about missing and accidentally shooting him dead — leaving no one to guide her and no translator —
Jiang Yu really wanted to blow that ex-husband guy away like a rabbit.
Fortunately!
Just as she was about to collapse from exhaustion, the ex-husband finally got tired.
Looking around nervously, he relaxed and leaned against a tree to sit down.
Jiang Yu wanted to rest too, catch her breath.
But just as she was about to squat down, she noticed her invisibility was about to run out.
Damn it!
Had she really been running that long?
No wonder her legs were about to go numb…
To avoid unnecessary trouble,
Being cautious, Jiang Yu dragged her exhausted body behind the ex-husband.
She controlled her strength carefully and slapped him hard to knock him out.
Then she pulled out some pig-tie rope from her space, quickly tied him to the tree with three swift wraps.
Only then did she stagger over to lean against another tree to rest.
…
“Hey! Is anyone there? Help! Wah~ don’t come closer, my meat tastes terrible…”
Jiang Yu, who somehow fell asleep leaning against the tree, was woken up by the ex-husband’s screaming.
Upon opening her eyes, she saw a big striped tiger drooling and steadily advancing toward him.
The tiger’s gaze occasionally flicked toward her.
Frightened, Jiang Yu instantly turned invisible, and a grenade appeared in her hand.
Damn it!
If she hadn’t been cautious earlier and picked a tree at least 20-30 meters behind the ex-husband,
She probably would’ve died or been badly injured today.
Ah!
Looks like she still wasn’t careful enough!
She had even made a little wooden hut but didn’t take it out to use.
If that tiger came from behind her, she probably wouldn’t even know how she died.
The more she thought about it, the more terrified she got.
Without hesitation, Jiang Yu was about to throw the grenade at the tiger’s head.
Unexpectedly, the tiger suddenly roared loudly, glared fiercely in her direction, then quickly disappeared into the forest.
Uh…
What the heck?
She was already prepared to force herself to make a real tiger fur coat…
Oh well!
If it ran away, then it ran away!
She still had important things to do!
Gathering her thoughts, after quickly knocking out the ex-husband again, Jiang Yu climbed up the tallest nearby tree.
After confirming the direction, she dragged the ex-husband—still tied up—out of the forest.
She had seen that they had been running along the foothills, through the forest.
The main road wasn’t far.
After just over ten minutes, they were out of the woods.
After checking left and right that no one was on the road, Jiang Yu hurriedly took out the Japanese military vehicle from her space.
At this point, she didn’t care about being exposed; getting there quickly was more important.
After all, the Japanese were about to attack Jurong, and the current state of the Chinese army was probably short on everything.
If she could get her stored guns, ammo, and food to them,
Even if it didn’t help much, killing a few more Japanese soldiers would be a plus.
Maybe more of their own people would survive…
“Alright! Since you’re awake, quickly give me directions. I want to go to the Japanese military base in Jurong.”
As the vehicle started, Jiang Yu noticed the ex-husband sitting in the passenger seat had woken up without her realizing.
“Ah? Okay! Uh… keep driving straight along this road for about 20 kilometers.
Then turn into a small path, go forward six more kilometers into Niu’er Village.
It’s not far from the Imperial… I mean Japanese military base…”
Hearing the voice next to her, although somewhat prepared, Liang Mengzhuang (the ex-husband) was almost scared to death.
After a moment of hesitation, Liang Mengwen cautiously told Jiang Yu everything he knew, leaving no detail out.
Actually, before they even left the forest, Liang Mengwen had been repeatedly bumped and scraped, which woke him up from unconsciousness.
But he was too scared to make a sound and stayed quiet.
He had too many wild guesses about Jiang Yu — gods, ghosts, all sorts of things flashing through his mind.
He never expected that she captured him simply to lead the way.
So what kind of “immortal” was she exactly?
Not only did she need someone to guide her, but she could also drive a car?
He himself had studied abroad but still didn’t know how to drive!
While cautiously giving directions, he kept sneaking glances at the steering wheel next to him.
Suddenly, Liang Mengwen realized: he recognized this car! It was that Japanese military vehicle they called the “imperial…” one.
Wait a minute!
So that night, what happened to his family — was it caused by this person sitting right next to him?
Why? Did she have a grudge against his family?
That could very well be…
In an instant, Liang Mengwen felt he understood everything.
Of course, he preferred to remain ignorant of the darker truths so he could delude himself that as long as he guided Jiang Yu, maybe he still had a chance to live.
But even knowing he was doomed, he did not have any thought of resistance.
After all, aside from the supernatural stuff, he had other reasons in his mind…
Jiang Yu didn’t care about all that. She just cursed and put all her focus into driving.
No other choice!
Though she had a driver’s license and thought her skills were decent,
the road was just terrible.
Several times, she felt like her head was about to hit the car roof.
It took her over three hours to drive twenty kilometers.
By the time she got out, her legs felt numb and like they didn’t belong to her.
Jiang Yu didn’t rush to continue.
As soon as she got out, she knocked the struggling Liang Mengwen unconscious with a slap.
Her invisibility was about to expire again.
Though eager to get to the Japanese military base,
safety came first!
These past two days had made her cautious—being visible felt like being naked, with no sense of security.
Besides, after a full day of work, she was so hungry her stomach barely registered the hunger anymore.
Another tough battle was coming.
She had to be fully prepared…
Just then,
Jiang Yu took out her little wooden hut from space and happily ate some soup-soaked rice inside.
Suddenly—
“Boom—”
A thunderous explosion sounded over several hills away.
She was so startled her hand trembled and spilled the rice on the ground.
What was going on?
Was the fighting starting?
But it was nearly dark!
She vaguely remembered the book mentioning that the Japanese didn’t like fighting at night.
So… could it be someone was launching a sneak attack on the Japanese base?
A sneak attack!!
Then what was she waiting for?
She had to hurry and see if she could help…
No, scratch that!
Helping was one thing, but bullets showed no mercy on the battlefield.
She couldn’t just recklessly throw her life away here.
That would be a total waste of the skills she had right now…
Her mind heating up, then quickly cooling down,
Jiang Yu silently scooped up another bowl of rice and, amidst the distant artillery and rapid gunfire, quickly ate her fill.
Then she packed up the wooden hut and military vehicle, grabbed Liang Mengwen, and started heading toward the direction of the sounds.
