Chapter 12: Is Your Child Above Suspicion?
They never would have imagined that the little demon’s host would be a dragon whelp, and the offspring of a powerful black dragon at that.
Attempting to eliminate the little demon discreetly is no longer realistic; the situation has become complicated.
Dong Mian endured the sharp pain in his body and rubbed his arm: “If you don’t want the situation to become irreparable… how about we sit down and talk calmly? What do you say?”
“…”
The man looked utterly unwilling, but Dong Mian had him by the short hairs. At that moment, the boundless black illusion faded away, returning to the original hospital room.
Although it was a complete mess, with the bed and stools scattered everywhere.
Dong Mian was concerned about Yin Tian’s wound; after all, he had taken the blow for him, and he didn’t want to owe the great demon any favors.
Now that he could see clearly, the wound was indeed very deep.
It had already soaked a large patch of his clothes, looking bloody and gruesome, a sight he couldn’t bear to look at.
Dong Mian frowned: “…Your wound, is it alright?”
For Yin Tian, this kind of injury wasn’t considered serious.
It was a bit painful, and he couldn’t recover instantly, but two or three days would be enough, and not even a scar would be left behind.
“It’s nothing, don’t worry about me, the bleeding will stop in a little while.”
“…”
Since Dong Mian rarely showed concern, Yin Tian certainly wouldn’t miss the opportunity to play the victim.
He had to seize it tightly and make the most of it.
Sure enough, as soon as he said that in a roundabout way, Dong Mian’s frown deepened.
Yin Tian was secretly pleased, but he still had to put on an act.
“These external injuries are nothing, they just look scary… How about you, are you alright? Did you get hurt just now?”
“I’m fine.”
Dong Mian shook his head; this kind of pain would dissipate over time.
“Don’t force yourself, you don’t look too good. Sit down first.”
Yin Tian used his good arm to pull Dong Mian over, forcing him to sit down.
“Don’t rush out like that in the future. What if you get hurt?”
Sitting down made him feel better. Dong Mian paused before saying, “…Don’t worry, I know my limits. I wouldn’t joke with my own life.”
“…”
The man couldn’t join their conversation and was forced to listen.
The unwillingness on his face gradually gave way to impatience and speechlessness.
Finally finding an opening to interject, the man crossed his arms: “…Are you two a couple?”
They were being so sickeningly lovey-dovey.
Dong Mian quickly wanted to deny it, but he couldn’t keep up with Yin Tian’s speed of admission.
“You can tell? You’ve got a good eye for it.”
“…”
Dong Mian closed his eyes in despair.
He could only comfort himself, ‘never mind… never mind, never mind’. Anyway, the fewer people who knew their actual situation, the better. It would be too troublesome to explain.
The man suppressed his disgust: “It’s hard not to tell. Anyone could see it.”
What was this little injury to a beast?
Did they have to be so sickeningly lovey-dovey?
Dong Mian: “…”
He was even more despondent.
The man didn’t want to give them a chance to continue being “lovey-dovey,” so he followed up after speaking: “Since you suggested talking calmly, let’s talk.”
“Why don’t we start by talking about your so-called mission?”
This was precisely what Dong Mian wanted; he also wanted to change the subject swiftly.
“A little demon broke through the Celestial Realm’s imprisonment and seal and escaped to the mortal world. We’re here to eliminate him.”
Dong Mian looked at the man: “The reason we’re here is because the little demon has possessed your child.”
Upon hearing this, the man loudly denied it: “Impossible! Absolutely impossible!”
“What little demon! If there were such a thing, how would it dare to hang around under my nose? I would never let such a thing possess my child!”
“Don’t get agitated. Getting agitated won’t help,” Yin Tian interjected. “The little demon’s greatest skill is being able to hide his aura completely. No one but me can find where he is.”
The man raised an eyebrow: “Why is it that only you can find him?”
“…”
That would be a long story.
The little demon wasn’t originally much of a demon. It was just a wisp of chaotic energy drifting through the heavens and earth, with weak power, feeding on the various negative emotions of young children.
However, the negative emotions of young children were generally weak, mostly consisting of naughtiness and mischief, so the little demon’s spiritual power was never extreme. Other than occasionally pulling pranks, it didn’t have any other abilities.
Until thousands of years ago, the little demon accidentally drifted to the abyss where Yin Tian resided and got lost inside, unable to get out.
Unable to absorb energy, the little demon quickly became extremely weak, forced to wait for death to arrive.
But at that moment, a drunken Yin Tian passed by. In a moment of drunken impulse, he rescued the little demon and infused it with a large amount of spiritual power.
This not only revived the little demon but also raised its spiritual power to an unprecedented level.
The little demon was truly born from that moment on.
After successfully leaving the abyss, the little demon began to cause trouble everywhere. Relying on its ability to hide its aura, it possessed one young child after another. The first to suffer was the Celestial Realm, which was thrown into chaos and filled with miasma.
To capture the little demon, the Celestial Realm spent a great deal of effort, originally intending to seal it indefinitely until its spiritual power was exhausted and it died naturally.
Who knew that the little demon would forcibly break through the seal?
Since it had become a fugitive of the Celestial Realm, its only fate was to be executed on the spot.
And the destructive power of a little demon that could throw the Celestial Realm into chaos was immeasurable in the mortal world.
To prevent tragedy from happening, the Celestial Realm had no choice but to release Yin Tian and reach a freedom agreement with him, hoping that he could find the little demon’s whereabouts.
“So, in the end, you’re the culprit, you beast. If you hadn’t messed around, this little demon wouldn’t even exist.”
After hearing the whole story, the man pointed the finger directly at Yin Tian.
“If there is such a little demon possessing my child, you can prepare to go to hell with the little demon.”
“…”
Afraid that Yin Tian would go berserk again, Dong Mian quickly stood up, blocking the man’s view.
“Please be more respectful. He is now under the Celestial Realm’s supervision. The Celestial Realm will decide how to deal with him later.”
The man snorted coldly, spread his hands, and his attitude toward Dong Mian wasn’t much better: “I almost forgot you’re a couple. Of course, you’re going to side with him.”
“…”
Dong Mian suddenly felt that being split in half earlier would have been better; at least he wouldn’t have to be misunderstood and insulted like this.
“…Now that you know the whole story, please cooperate with our mission.”
Dong Mian took a deep breath to calm down before he could continue speaking.
“If the little demon is possessing your child, the consequences will be unimaginable.”
Compared to ordinary human children, absorbing the spiritual power of divine beast whelps would allow the little demon to recover faster.
Not to mention how much damage this would cause to the divine beast whelp. Once the little demon recovered and could control the divine beast whelp, the destructive power would be greater than the sum of its parts. It would be even more challenging to capture it then.
But the man didn’t intend to cooperate: “Besides the beast’s intuition, is there any other evidence?”
He asked: “Why are you so sure that the little demon is possessing my child?”
Yin Tian was already getting impatient: “Because the little demon can only possess young children, understand? He can’t possess adults.”
“What I mean is, what about your child? Is he above suspicion?”
“…”
“According to you, there was more than one child in the room at the time. Why are you so sure that the little demon is in my child?”
This was an angle that neither Dong Mian nor Yin Tian had considered.
Logically speaking, it couldn’t be ruled out—but the subject was Dongri—was that even possible? How could that be possible?
“Between a human child and a dragon whelp, the little demon would choose the dragon whelp. That’s a conclusion we can draw directly.”
Yin Tian said, “Besides, our child is just a weakling, scrawny, useless, and malnourished. Why would an injured little demon target him?”
“That’s hard to say. There are no absolutes,” the man replied. “And if that’s the case, my child is also a weak little dragon, with weak spiritual power and prone to illness. There’s no need for the little demon to choose him, right?”
“…”
“…”
The two children met in the hospital, and they were both indeed in poor health, so they couldn’t refute that.
“And how can you prove that your judgment is correct? If it is possessing a child, how do you plan to eliminate the little demon?”
Yin Tian replied: “My incantation can force the little demon to leave its host. We’ll know if we try it.”
The man asked vigilantly: “Will it harm the child?”
“…”
After all, it was the great demon’s incantation, and it was an incantation to force the little demon to show itself, so it would inevitably cause some harm.
In addition to the effect of directly harming the little demon, it could also allow the possessed young child to experience the ultimate pain of a living hell.
But to protect world peace, Yin Tian decided to omit some unimportant details.
“It will cause some harm, but don’t worry, your weak dragon kid can handle it.”
The man narrowed his eyes, clearly full of suspicion: “…Is that so? In that case, let your child try it first.”
…What a vicious test!
Yin Tian couldn’t show it too obviously: “My child is just a useless human. Any incantation will harm him. It would be too much to use this on him, right?”
“No matter what he is, since he was also in the hospital room at the time, his suspicion cannot be ruled out.”
“If you want me to cooperate with your mission, then start with your child. That’s the fairest thing to do, right?”
“Do you know what it means to be possessed by a little demon?” Yin Tian had to change his approach. “Before the little demon voluntarily leaves, it will constantly absorb the child’s spiritual power until his spiritual power is exhausted. Do you want to see your child become like that?”
“Don’t try to provoke me with that. I won’t let that happen.”
The man replied confidently: “Even if there is a little demon possessing him, I won’t let my child’s spiritual power be exhausted.”
“Enough. I don’t have time to dawdle with you. The little demon can sense my aura. If he knows I’m nearby, he’ll run away soon. Can you bear the consequences?”
When fighting the man, Yin Tian harbored a genuine killing intent, especially since he was injured and bleeding. This scent couldn’t be concealed.
If the little demon were truly nearby, it would flee overnight, regardless of how badly injured it was.
“What does that have to do with me? It’s not my mission to hunt down the little demon.”
The man insisted to the end: “In short, I only have one thing to say. If you want to cast an incantation on my child, you must first use this trick to clear your own child’s suspicion. Otherwise, it’s out of the question.”
