Chapter 6: The Little Demon Subtly Appears
The cruel and unexpected truth was revealed, causing Dongri’s heart to shatter with a crackling sound like winter ice.
Heart shattered.
Sad and despairing.
He felt like he had become the most pitiful and also the most outrageous divine beast cub in the whole world.
He had actually forgotten his good companion who had been with him for so long, and even replaced it, and now he couldn’t even find it again.
He was such a terrible person!
Losing his original Little Penguin made the presence of any number of new Little Penguins meaningless!
Dongri burst into a wail, deeply immersed in self-reproach and guilt over the Little Penguin, and nothing could console him.
How was he supposed to sleep like this?
He definitely wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight.
But after crying for twenty minutes, the little guy was so exhausted that he finally succumbed to fatigue and fell asleep with tears still wet on his face.
Dong Mian and Yin Tian hadn’t anticipated that the situation would turn out this way. The child’s heart and mouth could change so quickly, and now the situation was very awkward.
They had finally become closer during the day and accumulated some goodwill, but now it was likely to plummet.
“What should we do now?” Dong Mian looked at Yin Tian. “Do you have a way to get Riri’s plushie back?”
Although reluctant to admit it, Dong Mian had no way.
He could bring dead trees back to life and make withered trees bear fruit, but he couldn’t conjure up the plushie doll that Dongri wanted out of thin air.
After all, everyone had their own expertise, and this was beyond the scope of the magic he could perform.
Dong Mian had no choice but to ask Yin Tian for help.
He thought Yin Tian would refuse, or at least take advantage of him verbally, but he didn’t expect that this time Yin Tian would take it all on very proactively: “Leave it to me, I have a way.”
Dong Mian couldn’t help but be surprised, and his eyes widened as he stared at Yin Tian.
Yin Tian met his gaze and found it a little funny: “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“I thought…”
The rest didn’t need to be said directly; they both knew what the other was thinking.
Yin Tian gave a soft snort: “Isn’t it you who wants us to have a better relationship? If I can get the plushie back this time, it will definitely be much better, right?”
“Then how are you going to get it back?” Dong Mian said vigilantly. “You can’t sneakily take it back; it’s already someone else’s.”
Dong Mian’s code of justice resurfaced in his mind.
It was something they had already given to someone else to offset the cost; if they sneakily took it back, how would they be any different from thieves?
What kind of immortal would he be then? He might as well hang himself at the South Heaven Gate.
“Don’t worry, I’ll leave fifty yuan there.”
“…”
Although… but something still seemed off.
“I’ll copy a replica and leave it there; would that be okay?”
After all, he was a great demon that had existed since ancient times, and he could perform far more magic than Dong Mian.
Creating a one-to-one replica was not a problem for Yin Tian at all; using it on such a small plushie was a waste of spiritual power.
“…Okay, let’s do that then.”
It was already the most appropriate and perfect solution.
So Yin Tian went out alone and drove to the mall they had visited during the day.
It would be best if the plushie were still there.
Even if it wasn’t, as long as there was still Dongri’s scent on it, Yin Tian could find its whereabouts.
It was just that his luck wasn’t very good at night.
At this time, the roads were inexplicably congested.
It was hard to say what kind of evening rush hour it was, but Yin Tian’s car was stopping and starting, and it took ten minutes to get through two traffic lights.
He could have gotten there faster on his own, but Dong Mian wouldn’t let him use magic indiscriminately in the human world, so he was forced to drive there.
The wait was frustrating.
Especially for a great demon who didn’t have much patience to begin with.
He was stuck at another long red light, so Yin Tian lowered the car window and lit a cigarette.
But just as the cold wind poured into the car through the gap, a strange and unpleasant aura also drifted in.
Although it was very faint, Yin Tian instantly recognized that this was the little demon they were looking for.
Having been in the human world for so long, and having searched everywhere specifically before without finding it, the little demon appeared on its own tonight, and even stopped concealing its scent.
How strange.
For Yin Tian to be able to smell the scent so directly, it meant that the little demon was not far from him.
But the faintness of the scent meant that the little demon was currently weak, most likely in a state of serious injury.
This was not difficult to understand.
Previously, the little demon had forcibly broken through the seal of the Celestial Realm and escaped to the human world after being heavily besieged and hunted there. It must have suffered a significant loss of vitality and needed to recover properly first.
Before it fully recovered, the little demon would hide all of its aura and parasitize itself on a young child.
The best choice would be a divine beast cub with spiritual power, as absorbing the spiritual power of these little divine beasts would enable the little demon to recover more quickly.
But this was the human world, and there were no divine beast cubs at all, so the little demon would probably target those strong and healthy human children, sucking their life force.
One after another, until it fully recovered.
Its rare appearance tonight was probably because it had almost completely drained some unlucky child and was preparing to move on to the next one?
Yin Tian wasn’t prepared to verify whether his guess was correct, nor did he intend to go forward to track down the little demon’s specific whereabouts.
He was driving, and the little immortal had told him not to cause chaos in the human world, so of course he couldn’t act recklessly.
Moreover, as far as he was concerned, the longer the process of finding the little demon dragged on, the better; otherwise, he wouldn’t lose the opportunity to spend time with the little immortal day and night.
As for whether some human child was having bad luck tonight—
This wasn’t a cause-and-effect relationship that he could intervene in.
Anyway, it wasn’t his doing; if anyone had to be blamed, it should be the little demon.
After all, he had a critical mission to find a plushie for his nominal human son.
…
Dongri had a very uncomfortable sleep.
Falling asleep with sad emotions, he couldn’t be happy even in his dreams.
He felt as though he was having a chaotic and strange dream, as if he were in the eye of a storm, with his body constantly being sucked away by the monsters inside, and all his efforts to escape were in vain.
His chest was hot and painful, like being repeatedly roasted by a large fire, and then hammered on an iron plate.
Until he gradually regained his perception of the outside world, he realized that it was probably almost dawn, and he finally escaped from the nightmare.
But the next second after regaining his senses, he immediately remembered the Little Penguin he had abandoned.
So endless sadness swept over him again.
Even after sleeping for a night, it hadn’t been relieved in the slightest.
He didn’t want to face the reality of losing the Little Penguin.
But the time to open his eyes had come; no matter how unwilling he was, the little guy still had to open his eyes.
He had cried for too long before going to bed, and his eyes were a little sore and swollen when he woke up.
He subconsciously reached out to rub his eyes, but when his body moved, he found that his head also hurt a little.
Nothing felt comfortable.
“Ugh…”
Dongri murmured softly as he rubbed his eyes and sat up.
His small head and chest were bearing the weight of emotions that he shouldn’t have to bear at his age.
Until he lowered his little hand and fully opened his eyes, he saw a scene that could be called a miracle—
The lost Little Penguin plushie was placed on his pillow!
The Little Penguin had returned while he was sleeping!
The Little Penguin had come back on its own!
“Little Penguin! It’s my Little Penguin!”
Dongri couldn’t believe it and exclaimed in surprise immediately. No words could describe his overwhelming joy at this moment.
“Little Penguin is back! He’s back!”
If the nightmare hadn’t still been affecting his emotions, and his eyes and head hadn’t been feeling genuinely uncomfortable, the little guy would have suspected that last night’s accident was just a nightmare, and that the Little Penguin had never left him at all.
He quickly reached out and hugged the Little Penguin.
He snuggled it in his arms, wriggling around, with an expression of utmost affection, and then rubbed his little face against it.
The words he spoke were also very cheesy, repeatedly expressing his longing and regret.
“Little Penguin, this is so great! I missed you so much!”
“I will never… never be separated from you again!”
Dong Mian and Yin Tian were watching from the side.
Both of them possessed strong willpower and endurance, yet the scene still had an impact on them.
Their hearts suddenly became soft.
Dong Mian said with relief, “It’s great, Baobao. Your Little Penguin is back.”
He had waited for more than two hours to witness this scene with his own eyes.
He was glad the result matched his imagination; the little guy was truly happy.
Only then did Dongri realize that his Papa and Daddy were by his side.
The return of the Little Penguin had made him too happy, and he hadn’t noticed the other things around him.
“It was Daddy who helped you find it.”
Dong Mian was also working hard to improve the relationship between the great demon and the little guy.
No matter how many personal emotions he had, he had to say good things about Yin Tian at the moment.
“Daddy worked very hard to find the Little Penguin. Baobao, you have to thank Daddy.”
“…”
Yin Tian’s expression didn’t change when he heard this.
He put on a nonchalant look, as if this kind of small matter wasn’t worth mentioning.
In reality, he hadn’t yet recovered from yesterday’s emotional breakdown and also wanted to know what the little guy’s reaction would be.
He didn’t expect to become very close to him because of this, but at least he wouldn’t be afraid of him anymore, right?
At least he could let him hug him, right? At least he could call him Daddy, right?
Of course, Yin Tian didn’t care about these things at all; he just felt that it would be nice to have this level of progress.
Yin Tian remained silent, just staring at the little guy.
After hearing that it was Yin Tian who had helped him get it back, the smile on the little guy’s face gradually disappeared, and his expression began to become serious.
It wasn’t that he felt disappointed about this.
Instead, he was serious and thoughtfully considering how to express his gratitude.
Because he wasn’t too surprised by this fact, he had always felt that Daddy was quite good to him.
It was just that he looked a little fierce, spoke a little fiercely, and usually acted a little fiercely.
Yes, that was all.
“Ugh, ugh… I…”
Dongri blinked his big eyes and uttered the opening words with some difficulty.
Dong Mian also quickly reminded Yin Tian telepathically.
Dong Mian: [Can your expression be a little friendlier? Are you trying to scare the child with that look?]
But perhaps it was because his emotions had fluctuated too much just now, or for some other reason, after saying just a few words, Dongri suddenly felt a violent stabbing pain surge in his chest.
At the same time, his breathing began to become difficult, and he couldn’t speak.
He subconsciously opened his mouth to gasp for air, but a never-before-experienced fishy sweetness rose in his throat.
The next second, a large amount of blood spurted out of his mouth and nostrils.
The little guy choked on his blood, his breathing became even more difficult, he wanted to cough but couldn’t get any air out, he was almost suffocating, and his face instantly turned pale.
“Baobao!”
“Baobao, what’s wrong with you?!”
