Chapter 117: Illusion
Mo Wenbin’s heart shattered at those words, each beat a fresh pang of pain.
“Silly girl, I’m your dad,” he said softly, allowing Mo Yuqing to rest her head on his shoulder.
“You’ve been arguing with me for so many years, you’re such a silly girl.”
He didn’t notice he repeated the phrase “silly girl” twice. Perhaps in his heart, no other term fit his daughter better.
Naive, arrogant, and stubborn, how could she be so silly?
Mo Yuqing cried in Mo Wenbin’s arms like a child, just like she did when she was little.
Mo Wenbin’s eyes welled up involuntarily as he watched, feeling time rewind many years.
As parents, they didn’t really want their children to grow up, because growth inevitably meant losing something.
People couldn’t mature without reason. The more childish someone was, the happier they tended to be from childhood to adulthood.
Not to mention that growing up also meant discovering that the world was still not a beautiful place.
Mo Wenbin didn’t know how to comfort her for a moment, so he simply told his own story.
From meeting Mo Yuqing’s mother when they were children, to becoming closer and closer, walking into the hall of marriage, to him pouring all his energy into his career, until finally, Mo Yuqing’s mother filed for divorce.
Because he felt guilty about his previous dedication to his career, he refused custody of Mo Yuqing.
It was ironic that Mo Yuqing’s mother’s initial reason for divorce was that he had to go to a meeting when Mo Yuqing had a high fever. Now, after the divorce, she had poured all her energy into making money, just like him, unable to take care of the family.
Both of them finally understood each other’s thoughts and difficulties at the time.
But it was too late. Regret was the most useless emotion; it only made people torture themselves and couldn’t change anything.
“To others, Dad might seem to have everything.
But I have nothing. Now I have the ability to give you and your mother the best life, but she’s gone, and you’re not here either.
It’s because when I was young, I didn’t know what was most important.
I’m not as open-minded as your Uncle Chen. I should have listened to him back then…”
The father and daughter talked more and more, and they finally understood each other a little.
After a long time, Mo Wenbin felt his mouth dry, but he still muttered, “It’s all Dad’s fault.”
He felt that if he hadn’t just focused on giving his family a better life, if he had realized earlier that companionship was more important, or if he had let Mo Yuqing stay with him during the divorce, their daughter might not have ended up like this.
“Dad, I want to try on a wedding dress,” Mo Yuqing said suddenly.
Mo Wenbin stood there for a long time, unsure whether to be happy that his daughter was finally calling him “Dad” again or shocked that she suddenly wanted to try on a wedding dress.
Under his stunned gaze, Mo Yuqing smiled and wiped away her tears, saying softly,
“There won’t be a chance to wear it in the future.”
The dream is over, and I should grow up.
Mo Wenbin understood Mo Yuqing’s meaning a few seconds later, his mouth opening and closing repeatedly, but in the end, he didn’t say anything.
He hadn’t resolved his own problems, so he had no right to advise his daughter to be more open-minded.
“Dad will take you.”
He turned his gaze to the window, tilting his head slightly, and sighed inwardly, “Chen Guanglin… you really live your life wisely.”
How could you be so clear about what you want most?
“Are you really determined? If you stay in China, Dad can be with you,” Mo Wenbin made a final plea, for the first time envying Chen Guanglin.
Mo Yuqing shook her head gently, “When we were little, we pinky swore that we would get married when we grew up and become a great lawyer, the kind who helps the poor fight their cases for free.”
A faint smile appeared on her lips, but her beautiful smile was full of bitterness, “Since I broke the marriage promise, I should at least do the other thing well.”
…
In the afternoon, inside a luxuriously decorated wedding dress shop.
Liu Yan looked at the wedding dresses, each with an astronomical price tag, and couldn’t help but click her tongue. They could have just robbed them, but they were kind enough to give them a wedding dress.
Although they were all really beautiful…
She took out a wet wipe and wiped the tears from her cheeks, returning to her usual appearance.
It was as if she didn’t know that Mo Yuqing was leaving for abroad tomorrow.
“Hello, your coffee.” A salesperson approached Liu Yan.
Liu Yan was shocked and took it, quietly placing it on the table beside her.
Even if it was free, she didn’t dare to drink it, thinking that if she spilled it on her wedding dress, it would be over.
At this time, Mo Yuqing, who had changed into her fishtail wedding dress, slowly walked over. She was dressed in white, her fishtail skirt and cascading lace train highlighting her long legs and figure, making her even more captivating.
Holy, luxurious, beautiful beyond compare.
Besides that, Liu Yan couldn’t think of any other adjectives. Her attention was completely captivated.
It’s so beautiful, but it looks… not happy enough.
Yuqing, you have to smile.
If you don’t smile, everyone will see that you’re a “fake” bride.
“Does it look good?” Mo Yuqing put the veil aside, spun around with unparalleled grace, and asked her.
Liu Yan nodded, “It’s really beautiful…”
Mo Yuqing forced a smile, holding the veil and walking in front of Liu Yan, “Come on, bridesmaid, help me put it on.”
Liu Yan’s tears couldn’t be held back. She knew that following this fake bride, she wouldn’t be a real bridesmaid either. She shouted loudly, “So why were you so stubborn back then! Wouldn’t it have been better if you had woken up earlier!”
“You were going to win for sure!! Chen Lu doesn’t owe you anything! Why couldn’t you understand?!”
Her sudden outburst echoed through the spacious hall, like a complaint about Mo Yuqing’s childishness, or a vent of dissatisfaction at her self-absorbed decision to leave.
Mo Yuqing tilted her head back, the white veil on her head swaying slightly. She came to her senses, sniffed, and looked at her with a twinkle in her eyes, “That’s why I really regret it.”
Liu Yan didn’t speak. She just wanted to sigh that it’s really hard for people to cherish something before they lose it.
Unfortunately, time is always unidirectional. Some things can be made up for after awakening, but some cannot.
She asked herself why many times.
Why are people so childish sometimes? Why can’t they learn to cherish things earlier? Why didn’t I persuade her more seriously back then…
Why didn’t I threaten to break up with her back then? Why didn’t I go and persuade Chen Lu to ignore her for a few months?
Unfortunately, she didn’t know the answer to any of these questions.
Cherishing things prevents missing out and losing them, but only after losing them do you learn to cherish them…
Oh well, it’s a closed loop.
Mo Yuqing smiled and smiled, then tears fell.
The two of them cried and looked at each other.
After a long time, Mo Yuqing took Liu Yan to a salesperson.
“I want to buy it.”
As she spoke, she took out a bank card from her bag, “Use this one.”
“Okay!” The salesperson bowed slightly, “Your husband will be very touched.”
Mo Yuqing smiled at her, but didn’t say anything.
At this moment, after experiencing the feeling of buying a wedding dress, her self-indulgent dream was completely over.
This thing can only be thrown away after buying it.
“You should try one on too… let me take a good look at you in a wedding dress.” Mo Yuqing pretended to be suddenly interested and turned to suggest to Liu Yan.
How could Liu Yan not hear the meaning behind Mo Yuqing’s words? She stood there like a statue, and after a long time, she finally squeezed out a sentence:
“Yuqing, I hate you.”
