Chapter 141: You Are a Gift from Heaven
It was the morning of the Chinese Valentine’s Day.
The two had made plans to go to the aquarium.
During a gathering of the team after a competition win, Chen Lu had noticed Liang Zhirou’s interest in various fish.
Because the water heater at home had broken down, Liang Zhirou had arrived early and specifically washed her hair.
Chen Lu carefully blew dry Liang Zhirou’s hair, watching silly videos on his phone.
He had never scrolled through short videos before, but he had started doing so because he could find videos of the game they had made.
The speed of change in the current internet was so fast that even “rapidly changing” couldn’t describe it.
He would often fall asleep while scrolling through short videos, and then wake up the next day to find new viral memes.
One day everyone was talking about little black guys, and the next day it was very cool. It was nothing new.
Actually, ever since a couple of big UPs had posted trial gameplay vlogs at the comic convention, the snowball of traffic had started rolling.
From the moment that bloggers needed to leverage the game’s traffic, their game was like a high jumper who had already set up the bar, just waiting for the final jump.
Word of mouth spread, and by the Chinese Valentine’s Day, whether it was WeChat Moments or short video platforms, there was a presence of the game everywhere.
There were strategy guides, funny videos, and even speculation about the plot based on snippets of information about the various items that dropped. At least they had captured the youth market.
The popularity was explosive, a testament to the creativity that Chen Lu had validated through competition, and the stability of its implementation.
Even though he had anticipated this, he still didn’t expect the popularity to be so explosive. Especially after the launch of the WeChat Moments leaderboard for the number of times the game was completed, it had taken off even further…
Chen Lu simply doubled everyone’s salary and called back all the people who were working from home.
Although he had been preparing to increase the workforce ever since the game started showing signs of popularity, he still couldn’t keep up with the speed of the explosion.
However, things were still developing according to his plan. He would eat as much of this traffic as he could. It was possible for a WeChat mini-game to make a lot of money, but it was unrealistic to expect it to stay popular for years.
His focus was on the future.
After this wave of traffic subsided, when their next game was released, he would immediately sue the company that had stolen their data, along with its parent company.
He and Lin Jingming had barely spoken in all these years, he didn’t even bother to consider whether he should give them any face.
Not to mention, he didn’t feel guilty at all.
By that time, the second wave of traffic would be ready to take over, and the quality of the second game wouldn’t even be that important.
With the funds accumulated from the two games, he would apply for an independent game license.
Perfect.
“This silly guy’s hair has gotten a little longer.”
Chen Lu muttered to himself.
Ever since he had casually mentioned that he liked long black hair, Liang Zhirou hadn’t worn a ponytail except when she was working.
He gently lifted her hair, strand by strand, allowing the wind to blow evenly through it.
“You don’t have to be so careful,” Liang Zhirou said softly. Chen Lu was more meticulous than she was when blow-drying her hair.
“This is my girlfriend’s hair, of course I have to be careful.”
Chen Lu reached out and touched it a couple of times, feeling that it was almost dry. He then leaned down and sniffed it.
Well, after being blown by the hot air for so long, it didn’t smell as good as usual. He wasn’t sure if it was because the hair dryer wasn’t good quality, but the air it blew out always had a strange smell.
Chen Lu thought about getting a new one.
Just as he was about to speak, his phone rang.
Seeing that it was Jiang Chao calling, he answered and held the phone away from his ear.
“Damn! Our game exploded!”
“I know, I know, I’m watching.” Chen Lu said helplessly.
Jiang Chao chuckled smugly, “You’re not coming to the company today?”
“Yeah, I’m not going to be able to make more money by sitting there.” Chen Lu said as he put the hair dryer back in the drawer. “Remember what I said, do things at the right time. If you get inflated, they’ll get inflated too, and things will go wrong.”
“Ok.”
“Aren’t you accompanying Liu Yan? You’re not really helping anything by staying at the company. They’re getting double their salary plus bonuses and commissions, they don’t need you, the old general, to supervise them and give them buffs, let them do their own thing.”
“I’ll stay at the company and keep an eye on things for a while, otherwise I’ll be worried about this and that.”
“You’re so pathetic.”
Chen Lu lightly scolded him, then ended the call with a laugh.
“Is your company very busy?” Liang Zhirou, sitting on the sofa, looked up at him and asked softly.
“Not busy.” Chen Lu picked up the girl’s bag, “Let’s go, we agreed to go out and play on Chinese Valentine’s Day.”
He really didn’t feel any psychological pressure at all.
He always felt that the process of waiting for the result was the least stressful. He had already passed the time when he could work hard, and even if he was nervous, it was just tormenting himself.
Either work harder in advance, or just completely lie flat and give up. Being unable to go up or down will only make you more miserable.
Liang Zhirou blinked, realizing that it was useless to believe or not, so she followed him.
On the way, Chen Lu was driving, glanced at the information on his phone, and then put it aside.
It’s ridiculous, he’s making a fortune.
“Let’s buy a house,” he said casually.
“Ah?”
Liang Zhirou was startled, her whole body froze.
“Why are you so scared?”
Actually, he didn’t say everything. He originally planned to buy two houses, one in the name of both of them to give to Xiao Xunfang to live in, and the other to give to his parents. This would make sense to both sides.
This way, Wang Xiaoxia and Chen Guanglin wouldn’t feel awkward.
The possibility of Xiao Xunfang moving in would be greater.
Anyway, their current landlord wasn’t a good person, and the rent was about to expire. It was a good time to change places.
Staying in that small room all the time also affected her mood.
As for himself, this rented house was pretty good. He just needed a place to live.
Except for not being able to sleep in the same room with this silly girl, everything was good.
Thinking about these things, Chen Lu’s mood gradually became cheerful. His current mentality was the same as many college students who earned their first month’s salary. He unexpectedly wanted to hand it over to his parents, firstly to repay them, and secondly to prove that he had truly grown up.
Realizing that Chen Lu wasn’t joking, Liang Zhirou was even more confused, “Why are you suddenly saying this…”
“Since my company hasn’t gone bankrupt, I can definitely make money. If I’m lucky, buying a house is pretty normal, isn’t it?” Chen Lu said helplessly, “Is there a possibility that your boyfriend is actually pretty awesome?”
“I’ve always known that.” Liang Zhirou said seriously.
“It’s just that I didn’t expect you to make so much money. After all… many part-time jobs might not even earn two thousand a month.”
Chen Lu felt that the time wasn’t right yet, so he decided to continue to deceive her, “We’ll get married someday, right? We can’t get married without a house, right?”
Liang Zhirou looked at him in confusion, “I’ll marry you even if we don’t have a house…”
“Also…
Also…
That…”
Chen Lu’s mouth opened and closed, but he couldn’t say another word.
What was I trying to say just now?
His brain completely shut down, his mind filled with the girl’s words, “I’ll marry you even if we don’t have a place to live.”
All the tricks he had prepared were completely forgotten, and he couldn’t use any of them.
He was familiar with this feeling. It was like when he played LoL, he had planned a series of extremely gorgeous combos to take down the opponent, but suddenly got silenced by Garen’s Q, and then got killed by a big sword.
All his strength had nowhere to go.
“Why aren’t you talking?”
Liang Zhirou’s worried question turned into a mockery of the victor in Chen Lu’s eyes. He chuckled, cleared his throat forcefully, and said seriously, “The house you’re renting will expire soon. Let your mom live in that house first. Auntie is already over forty years old.”
Life is only a few short decades.
Chen Lu didn’t say more, his words were enough.
If he said more, it would sound unpleasant…
The car was quiet for a while, then the girl softly hummed.
The car stopped near the aquarium.
Chen Lu was helping Liang Zhirou unbuckle her seatbelt when he heard her softly ask, “Are you a wish-granting machine given to me by heaven?”
He paused, then smiled faintly, “You are.”
