Chapter 24: The Adorable Mascot
After a day of loafing around and staying up half the night, Chen Lu finally packed his clothes the next afternoon and prepared to go shopping with Chen Mo.
While packing, he didn’t forget to send a message to Liang Zhirou.
Chen Lu: Are you going to the Guomao Mall for your part-time job today? What time do you get off work? I need to talk to you about something.
Liang Zhirou: Huh? What do you want to say…
Chen Lu: Now I know who I learned to say “huh?” from. Anyway, it’s very important, I have to tell you in person.
Liang Zhirou: I get off work at six.
Chen Lu: I’ll pick you up then.
Liang Zhirou: Okay.
Spending a whole day accompanying Chen Mo shopping would not only make his sister happy, but also find a more relaxed part-time job for Liang Zhirou.
Then Chen Mo could spend more time studying every day, which would also make her parents happy.
Chen Lu felt this was a good deal, as he would just be reading and playing games at home anyway.
The two of them arrived at the Guomao Mall where Liang Zhirou worked part-time.
Although he had prepared himself mentally, he never expected there to be so many people in the mall during the holidays.
Fortunately, the air conditioning was very strong, so people wouldn’t feel so agitated.
Chen Mo hugged his arm, pulling him to look here and there, as if she had endless energy.
Chen Lu was puzzled. How could girls, creatures who couldn’t even open a bottle cap, manage to shop for so long without getting tired?
“Brother, I want a fruit tea!”
“I’ll buy you one.”
“Brother, I want to buy a new skirt later!”
“……Buy.”
“Buy me a necklace too?” Chen Mo stopped in front of a necklace counter, her eyes shining.
“Go away, if you push your luck any further, I’ll buy you a set of 53.”
Chen Mo didn’t get angry, she continued to laugh mischievously: “Brother, you wouldn’t want your good friend to lose her job, would you?”
“How about this pearl necklace? It seems to suit you.” Chen Lu pointed to the necklace on the counter, as if nothing had happened.
“It’s nice, nice, your taste is pretty good! Let me try it on!”
……
Chen Mo continued to shop with the shopping bag containing the necklace, while Chen Lu already had a deadpan expression.
He realized the flaw in his plan.
This was a world where only he was hurt…
Chen Lu walked half-dead, letting Chen Mo drag him around.
“Brother! Look over there!” Chen Mo’s eyes lit up, pointing to the distance, “The milk tea shop over there!”
There was a person wearing a plush suit helping to sell milk tea, looking like a snowman, wobbling as he walked.
Every time someone came to the store or left, the little snowman would bend over and give a slight bow.
It was quite cute.
But the most brainwashing was the “You love me, I love you…” BGM.
Chen Mo grabbed Chen Lu’s arms with both hands, urging him, “Let’s go take a look.”
“You’re so old…” Chen Lu said, but his body still followed Chen Mo towards the shop.
As they approached, the snowman noticed them.
Seeing Chen Mo holding Chen Lu’s arm so intimately, the snowman who was about to bow suddenly stopped.
Soon, the siblings stood in front of the snowman.
“Hello! I want two cups of hand-peeled grapes!” Chen Mo’s voice was very excited, like a child who hadn’t grown up, reaching out to touch the snowman’s arm.
Unfortunately, she didn’t get a response.
Chen Lu, who was looking at his phone, looked up and found that the snowman was staring at him.
Chen Lu tilted his head, feeling a bit strange.
“Hello?” Chen Mo greeted again, thinking in her mind if it was impolite to touch the other person’s arm.
As a girl, she couldn’t help but touch something cute and adorable.
The snowman finally nodded quickly and handed Chen Mo the order number.
Chen Mo took the paper, seeing that the other person didn’t speak, she joked, “You’re a really cool snowman.”
Chen Lu suddenly remembered something.
Didn’t Liang Zhirou say she would be working here today?
He had been browsing these floors for half a day and hadn’t seen anyone named Liang Zhirou.
“Sister, when is Mom coming back?” Chen Lu asked, his voice a little louder than usual.
“Didn’t I say the day after tomorrow? Why are you suddenly asking this?”
“Nothing, I almost forgot.”
After a while, having received their fruit tea, the two turned and left.
“Goodbye.” Chen Mo waved goodbye to the cute snowman, regardless of what the person inside looked like, girls naturally have a fondness for anything cute.
Chen Lu glanced at the snowman, walked forward and gently patted its head, then turned and left with Chen Mo.
Whether it was Liang Zhirou or not, it wouldn’t hurt to mention it.
What if, just in case, Liang Zhirou actually had some feelings for him, and would feel unhappy?
So it was better to avoid it if possible, he didn’t want to hurt the silly girl’s heart.
Soon, Chen Lu turned back from the other side, looking at the silly snowman from afar.
“Brother, what are you looking at the mascot for?” Chen Mo asked curiously, clearly her mind was only on the movie they were going to watch, she had already forgotten the cute snowman.
Chen Lu stood there, expressionless, “Thinking about things.”
Chen Mo didn’t bother with him, she found a chair and sat down to play with her phone, waiting for the movie to start.
The snowman still stood there motionless, like a mannequin in a clothing store.
Unlike the people handing out flyers in front of various restaurants, this snowman was very shy, and every time he finished his job, he would quickly hide to the side.
Only for those few seconds when no one was passing by, would the seemingly silly snowman lean against the wall and take a short rest.
Then, seeing someone walk by, he would continue to move forward clumsily and cutely.
It must be Liang Zhirou inside.
Chen Lu knew very well that although the mall had central air conditioning, it would still be stuffy and sweaty to wear this kind of plush suit.
He felt inexplicably sorry for her, his mind filled with Liang Zhirou’s silly image.
Should he go help?
Chen Lu thought about this again.
He was thick-skinned and didn’t care about these things.
But he felt that if he really did that, it would have the opposite effect.
After all, Liang Zhirou was working hard according to their agreement.
Chen Lu smiled lightly and gave up the idea of going to help.
Straightening this little sapling that had been hanging its head all the time was a long-term project.
A few minutes later.
The boy who had been standing motionless like a mannequin in a clothing store was gone.
……
At six o’clock, the sky had only darkened a little, but the heat outside had dissipated quite a bit.
After getting off work, Liang Zhirou held a cup of milk tea in one hand, while using the other hand to squeeze her stiff neck, looking at the 200 yuan transfer record on WeChat, she was filled with joy.
This was the result of her labor today.
After her stiff neck eased a little, she took off her hair tie and let her hair fall naturally.
Chen Lu said he liked it this way.
At this moment, she suddenly realized that her phone was only at 2% battery.
Seeing a place to rent power banks, she thought about it and gave up.
It cost several yuan.
Then she used the last bit of battery to send a message to Chen Lu, and the two agreed on a place to meet later.
