Chapter 56: Unanswered Call

Liu Yan knocked more and more urgently, finally taking out her phone to call Mo Yuqing.

No answer.

After several calls, the door slowly opened.

“Oh, my dear! You’d think you’d disappeared!” Liu Yan complained anxiously.

“No.”

Mo Yuqing replied in a dull voice, as if she had just woken up. She turned around and walked back to her room, swaying slightly.

The black lace halter dress she was wearing swayed with her movements. One strap had slipped off her shoulder, revealing a patch of smooth white skin. She just let it hang there, after all, there were only girls here.

Liu Yan noticed something was wrong and quickly put on the slippers Mo Yuqing had prepared for her alone, following her. “Are you okay?”

When she reached Mo Yuqing’s room, she saw Mo Yuqing already lying back on the bed, dazed.

She lay on her side, like an octopus, stretching out her limbs and tightly hugging a large teddy bear.

Her long hair was scattered on one side, looking rather disheveled.

“Why aren’t you talking?”

Liu Yan hurried to her side, reaching out to touch her forehead.

“Oh my! It’s so hot! You have a fever?” Liu Yan gently shook Mo Yuqing’s body, trying to wake her up. “Did you take any medicine? How did you get such a high fever?”

“Got wet in the rain.” Mo Yuqing mumbled, her eyes closing, as if she was about to fall asleep again.

She looked very uncomfortable.

“Why were you getting wet in the rain?”

Liu Yan found it strange. She clearly drove her back, and Mo Yuqing had an umbrella when she came home. Where did she get wet in the rain?

Mo Yuqing closed her eyes, her cheek occasionally rubbing against the teddy bear, leaving a damp mark on the bear’s dry fur.

“Looking for something.” She mumbled sleepily.

“Looking for something? What’s worth getting wet in the rain for?”

“……Not looking everywhere, in the trash can.” Mo Yuqing’s breathing became incredibly steady as she spoke, as if she had fallen asleep.

“What did you say? Trash can?!”

Liu Yan didn’t need a mirror to know she must have a look of disbelief on her face.

At that moment, an image suddenly appeared in her mind: a torrential downpour, a drenched and stunning girl, anxiously…

Rummaging through the trash can?!

“Baby, are you crazy?”

Liu Yan’s complaint went unanswered. Mo Yuqing had already fallen asleep again.

She scanned the room, but couldn’t find any cold or fever medicine. With no choice, she had to continue pushing. “Did you take any medicine?”

“No, I’ll be fine after a nap. I’ve always been like this.” Mo Yuqing seemed annoyed by the pushing and rolled over, pulling Liu Yan onto the bed to sleep with her.

Mo Yuqing’s entire body was hot, even her breath. Her long, slender right leg wrapped around Liu Yan’s lower body, securing her by her side.

Liu Yan looked up and could only see the other’s round and perfect thigh root, but she wasn’t tempted. Sighing, she got up and said helplessly, “You’ll burn yourself silly if you keep sleeping!”

Then she started searching for fever medicine and a thermometer. If she couldn’t find them, she’d have to go out and buy some.

She didn’t know what was going on in this girl’s head. When Liu Yan had a high fever, Mo Yuqing had taken good care of her, but now it was her turn, and she just said she’d be fine after a nap.

Liu Yan searched through drawers and boxes for a long time before finally finding a thermometer and fever medicine in a small transparent box.

“Come on, take your temperature.”

Fortunately, Mo Yuqing was more obedient when she was asleep than when she was awake. Liu Yan didn’t waste much time and went to boil some water.

A few minutes later, she returned with a cup of water and a pill, gently placing them on the pure white bedside table.

The moment she picked up the thermometer, she frowned.

“Thirty-nine point two?”

Liu Yan looked up at Mo Yuqing, who was still hugging the teddy bear like an octopus, and said angrily, “If I didn’t come, you’d burn yourself silly!”

“Take your medicine!”

Awakened by the stern call, Mo Yuqing slowly sat up, taking the pill and water cup in a perfunctory manner, swallowing them in one gulp.

Liu Yan let out a sigh of relief, pulled the curtains in the bedroom, and the rest was just a matter of watching the temperature.

It was good that she came early.

She didn’t know why the tutor suddenly changed her mind and sent her a message saying that she shouldn’t feel embarrassed, and that she should check if she needed to.

Whatever, as long as she got the leave.

She sat beside Mo Yuqing, silently scrolling through her phone.

“You’re amazing, you know, braving the rain to rummage through the trash can…” Liu Yan laughed halfway through, then sighed helplessly. “You’re something else.”

“What were you looking for? Did you drop your property deed in there?”

“Looking for something Chen Lu gave me.” Mo Yuqing buried herself completely under the covers, only her hair scattered on the pillow. “Let me sleep…”

Liu Yan was stunned for a moment, then said helplessly, “Go to sleep.”

She looked at the sleeping Mo Yuqing, her eyes gradually becoming more complex.

You have this kind of infatuation, why didn’t you do it earlier?

If you had done this before Chen Lu gave up hope, he would have proposed to you the next day.

What’s the point now…?

Either you can’t recognize your feelings for Chen Lu, or you can’t find that overwhelming sense of security. In the end, you’ve been so messed up that it’s all too late.

Any girl can be confused about their feelings because of their parents’ marriage problems, but you can’t. There’s no one better for you than Chen Lu…

As she thought about it, she finally reached out and touched the other’s forehead.

Sigh, I still feel sorry for her.

At eight o’clock in the evening, dusk descended, and the room became pitch black, with only a little light from outside shining through the gaps in the curtains.

After the fever subsided, Mo Yuqing slowly opened her eyes, feeling a little tired.

“You’re awake?” Liu Yan said softly. “Here, have some water.”

“Thanks for coming over.” Mo Yuqing said, taking the water cup and gulping it down.

Liu Yan looked at her, feeling both amused and annoyed. “What did you dream about?”

Mo Yuqing was taken aback, then slowly shook her head. “I didn’t dream about anything.”

Liu Yan didn’t believe her. “You didn’t dream about anything, why were you calling out Chen Lu’s name?”

“You heard it and you’re still asking!” Mo Yuqing glanced at her, continuing to hug the teddy bear Chen Lu had given her.

“Didn’t you say you’d come after class? I didn’t wake up until the afternoon.” She frowned slightly, recalling the events of the afternoon. Then she quickly turned to Liu Yan, remembering that she had mentioned the incident of rummaging through the trash can.

“If you tell anyone about that, I’ll kill you.”

She said coldly.

If that incident got out, she’d be dead. Every time she thought about it, she felt disgusted. The rainwater pouring in, mixed with all sorts of disgusting smells…

Liu Yan shrugged. She wasn’t a gossip. “The tutor wouldn’t give me leave, I had to wait until after class to come over. But as soon as the entrepreneurship class ended, the tutor approved my leave. She even told me to check carefully, but when I asked for leave, I just said I was uncomfortable because I had my period.”

Mo Yuqing was stunned for a moment, then buried her face deep into the teddy bear, hugging it tightly, as if she was using all her strength. Her whole body trembled.

She mumbled, “Chen Lu asked for it for you.”

“What did you say?”

“Who else in his class is so close to the tutor?”

Liu Yan thought about it and realized that was probably true. She seemed to have been a bit too careless.

“I want to call him.” Mo Yuqing smiled wryly, taking out her phone and dialing the number that had once been able to solve all her problems.

But the phone only emitted a voice without any emotion.

“Sorry, the user you are calling is currently on another call…”

As if she had lost all strength, the phone slipped from her hand onto the bed. She didn’t say anything else, just continued to bury her face in the teddy bear, her whole body shaking.

She knew that if she hadn’t made so many mistakes, Chen Lu would definitely be by her side taking care of her now…

Liu Yan looked at Mo Yuqing, who was crying silently, and could only sigh deeply, her eyes reddening as she poured her a cup of hot water…
