Chapter 62: Too Late
Mo Yuqing finally stood up when she saw Chen Lu’s figure.
She didn’t know how long she had been squatting there, and when she stood up, her legs were still sore and shaky. She had to hold onto the door to stand steady.
It was hard to reconcile this girl, who was now so low, with the girl who had never bowed her head before.
All three of them were stunned for a moment.
Just as Chen Lu was about to pretend he didn’t see anything and help Jiang Chao into the dorm.
Mo Yuqing took three steps in two and stood in front of him, her deep black skirt swaying like a flower.
She had already made up her mind, even if Chen Lu had already stopped or even started to walk back.
As long as she ran to catch up, even if it meant losing half her life?
After all, compared to Chen Lu’s years of dedication, this was nothing.
She raised the thing she was carrying in her hand and said softly, “I bought you some peach cakes, from your favorite store.”
That store was far from the school, at least a forty-minute taxi ride, a round trip of over an hour.
Chen Lu didn’t know how long she had spent going back and forth, nor did he know how long she had been squatting here like a unwanted child, how many mosquitoes she had fed, and how many curious eyes she had attracted.
But, he didn’t really want to know…
Even boiling water can freeze, let alone a heart only at thirty-seven degrees?
The more devoted a person is, the more thoroughly they die when they lose hope.
The last hope in his heart was to part amicably.
Jiang Chao was very understanding and swayed into the dorm himself, leaving the space to the two of them. But even so, he stood in the distance, lit a cigarette, and quietly ate the gossip.
Seeing Chen Lu sigh softly, as if he still didn’t want to take the bait.
Mo Yuqing’s expression became even more sad, she held the bag of peach cakes with both hands and handed it to Chen Lu again.
“Just… eat two bites, just two bites.”
She pleaded almost.
“Okay?”
She held back her tears, she had already anticipated this situation, but when it actually happened, her heart ached like needles, cold and icy.
The boy who used to be kind to her, who used to smile at her, whose eyes were full of her, seemed to be gone…
She was enveloped in immense sadness, regret like a tide, constantly rising and falling in her heart, wave after wave.
At the same time, she also completely realized that regret was useless.
Chen Lu looked at the girl in front of him with a hint of indifference, and said helplessly, “Forget it, I just ate.
And, I don’t like to eat this.”
Mo Yuqing was stunned for a moment, she hid her trembling hands behind her back and pursed her lips.
“But you clearly liked it since you were a kid…”
“I remember everything you like to eat.”
Chen Lu clearly used to, even in elementary school, often clamoring to eat it, because of this, his mother often prepared it for him, waiting for him to come over and play and give it to him.
She trembled slightly, unable to stop, perhaps more than Chen Lu no longer liking peach cakes, she was afraid that Chen Lu no longer liked her.
Chen Lu heard this and a complex smile appeared on his lips, he chuckled and said, “Think about it, when I was a kid, my parents or your parents bought this for me, who ate the most?”
Mo Yuqing lowered her eyes and said softly, “I…”
At that time, Chen Lu always ate a few bites and then stopped, because of this, he was often scolded, even though he was always scolded for not liking to eat, he still wanted to eat it every time, and he still said he liked to eat it every time.
Only she, like a child who never grew up, felt nothing.
She had been recklessly trampling on his gentleness all along.
Seeing Mo Yuqing standing there in a daze, Chen Lu’s face was full of helplessness and fatigue, he asked, “Do you understand now?”
Mo Yuqing nodded lightly.
She bit her lower lip hard, biting and biting, inexplicably tasting a salty and bloody liquid.
She suddenly felt very angry at herself.
How could she be so oblivious even now…
Chen Lu didn’t say anything else, he strode towards the dorm door, leaving only a sentence –
“Let’s not bother each other anymore, for your sake and for mine.”
He had only taken two steps when he felt his arm being pulled suddenly.
“I don’t want to…” Mo Yuqing pulled him gently with one hand, and wiped the tears that finally couldn’t help but flow down with the other.
“Don’t drive me away… please.”
“We, we grew up together, I’ve never imagined a life without you.”
I’ll make it up to you, I’ll be good to you like you were to me.
At this moment, she had completely abandoned all her pride.
Lowering her head was no big deal.
As long as Chen Lu could change his mind, she would do anything.
Just when she still had a glimmer of hope, she saw Chen Lu sigh softly…
“Let go, be decent.” He said in a deep voice.
Chen Lu’s meaning was very clear.
I want to leave, you can’t stop me.
Let go now and it won’t be too ugly.
Under Chen Lu’s gaze, Mo Yuqing finally slowly let go of his hand.
It seemed that letting go of each finger took a great deal of her strength.
It turned out that she could also be so addicted to being close to Chen Lu.
Chen Lu didn’t buy this, nagging would only have the opposite effect, making him hate her even more.
Mo Yuqing didn’t want that.
She could only look at the boy in front of her with blurred vision, wanting to take another look.
“Go back.”
Chen Lu finished speaking and didn’t stay any longer, but every step he took was heavy.
Mo Yuqing didn’t know how long she stood there, after she came back to her senses, she turned and left.
Liu Yan walked out from the corner, looking at her with helplessness and heartache.
“Be open-minded, in this situation, it’s normal for you to be rejected.”
Mo Yuqing looked at the last photo of the two of them on her lock screen, and wiped the tears on her cheeks with the back of her hand.
She cried and laughed at the same time, pretending to be strong, “It’s okay, this is just the beginning.”
She could no longer expect him to be good to her like he used to be.
At least, at least Chen Lu talked to her.
Liu Yan didn’t speak, she knew that Mo Yuqing had never suffered such grievances, and she also knew that she was suffering such grievances now… it was deserved.
If Mo Yuqing still didn’t want to give up.
“You’re more determined than I thought.” Liu Yan said truthfully.
“My determination will only grow stronger.”
Mo Yuqing turned to look at the dorm door, even though Chen Lu was no longer there, only a few flies were flying around in the light.
“Because I’ve finally understood how he felt back then.”
The more she put herself in his shoes, the more she realized how much Chen Lu loved her back then.
“I won’t give up, he could chase me for seven years, and I can chase him for seven years, it’s just fourteen years.”
“What he did for me, I can do for him, not a single thing less.”
As she spoke, her vision became blurred again.
But fourteen years later, I’ll be thirty-five, a bit too old, I won’t be able to show you my best side.
Can you come back to me a little earlier…
