Chapter 66: I Admit You’re Stronger Now

Damn…

In that instant, Chen Lu’s heart seemed to truly skip a beat.

Liang Zhirou froze there too. Even though she hadn’t been discovered yet, she already didn’t want to live on Earth anymore.

As the click-clack of the lock turning echoed, the door to their home slowly opened.

Just as Chen Lu was thinking of a strategy, Liang Zhirou gently tugged at his sleeve.

He turned his head and saw the girl with misty eyes, complaining in a whimpering voice: “Should I hide?”

Chen Lu almost choked on his own saliva. How could this silly girl’s brain shut down when she was nervous?

Liang Zhirou looked at him anxiously, her heart pounding. If her aunt saw her, she might as well just die.

Even though Chen Lu had forcibly dragged her here, from her aunt’s perspective, wouldn’t it look like she was stealing her son?

“It’s fine, don’t panic. You’re making it sound like we were doing something in the room.”

Chen Lu said helplessly. Seeing this silly girl’s nervous and flustered look, he almost got caught up in it.

“You stay in the room for now. I’ll go see what’s going on.”

He then slowly opened the door and walked into the living room, acting like nothing had happened.

The kettle he had boiled was just now coming to a boil, giving him an excuse to come out.

He slowly poured some hot water into a cup and looked up at the entrance.

Wang Xiaoxia was about to bend down to change her shoes when Chen Lu quickly shouted: “Mom, why are you back?”

She was startled by the sudden voice and, without bothering to change her shoes, went to pat him. “You’ve been staying at school and not coming home, and now you’re sneaking back behind my back? If you really don’t want to see me, then we’ll just go our separate ways!”

She grabbed Chen Lu’s ear, suppressing her laughter, and said angrily: “You’re saying ‘why are you back’? Anyone who doesn’t know would think you’re at home all day.”

“I was wrong! I was wrong!” Chen Lu quickly apologized, rubbing his ear. “I saw your WeChat post, and then you suddenly came back. I was worried you guys were fighting.”

He looked at Wang Xiaoxia with a sincere face, appearing calm on the surface, but actually panicking to death.

Since he hadn’t directly brought Liang Zhirou out earlier, there was no turning back now. He had to avoid his mom from discovering that he had a girl hidden in his room.

After twisting Chen Lu’s ear, Wang Xiaoxia proudly walked towards her room. “You still have some conscience, you little rascal.”

“Don’t worry, we didn’t fight. I spilled milk tea on my clothes while watching a movie, so I came back to change.”

Chen Lu picked up his cup and blew on the steam. He only drank hot water when his stomach hurt, and he would honestly drink hot water instead of Coke.

He couldn’t help but complain: “You’re so grown-up and still drinking milk tea.”

Wang Xiaoxia stopped and smiled at him, looking incredibly gentle.

“Xiao Lu, how old is your mom this year?”

Chen Lu was so scared that his hand trembled, and the hot water almost splashed onto his hand. “Mom, you’re eighteen.”

Wang Xiaoxia nodded in satisfaction, snorted, and said:

“Next time you talk back, I’ll beat you to death.”

She then slammed the door shut with a “bang.”

Chen Lu breathed a sigh of relief. Even though he hadn’t actually done anything wrong, he felt incredibly thrilled.

Within two minutes, Wang Xiaoxia came out in a new dress, looking very young. When she went shopping with Chen Mo, people would believe she was Chen Mo’s aunt.

Because she had never suffered any hardship, and her relationship with Chen Guanglin had always been very good, even though her son was twenty-one years old, she still looked like she hadn’t aged a bit.

They would often go on trips together and have their own world.

This was the kind of love that Chen Lu envisioned.

Hardship seemed to be the only nourishment for wrinkles. The more hardship one endured, the easier it was for time to leave its mark on one’s face.

Liang Zhirou’s mother was a prime example…

“You’re not coming back for dinner tonight?” Chen Lu asked curiously.

“Just order takeout yourself. Eat whatever you want, don’t be hard on yourself.” Wang Xiaoxia said as she changed her shoes, not finding anything wrong with her words.

“Can I go out to eat with you guys?”

Wang Xiaoxia refused without hesitation. “Go find a girlfriend to eat with. Why are you joining us on May 20th?”

“If you keep teasing me, I’ll get you a grandson!”

“Go ahead. Don’t come crying to me when the girl’s parents break your legs.” She said this and closed the door.

Chen Lu took a deep breath. Thankfully, his mom hadn’t discovered anything, and she hadn’t noticed Liang Zhirou’s shoes.

It was a close call.

But why did his heart feel a little ache?

My sister and I don’t look like we’re related at all. My parents are truly good people. They actually adopted two children.

He got up and walked towards the bedroom, thinking to himself.

As soon as he opened the door, he saw Liang Zhirou sitting on the edge of the bed, looking at him timidly.

When she saw him walk in, she moved a little further away.

Chen Lu found it strange. He hadn’t expected this to be because Liang Zhirou had heard his sentence “believe me or not, I’ll get you a grandson.”

He didn’t pay much attention and walked over to draw the curtains, adjusting the air conditioner to a comfortable temperature.

Then he glanced at the time, picked up his bag containing his laptop, and was about to turn around to go to the living room. “I’ll go to the living room to continue researching. You go to sleep. Turn this twice, and the door will lock. You won’t be able to get in from the outside.”

Liang Zhirou looked at him with his hand covering his stomach and asked softly: “Are you feeling unwell?”

Chen Lu didn’t care. “It’s nothing. My stomach hurts a little. I’ll eat some cookies to line my stomach, and it’ll be fine soon.”

He walked out and was about to close the door when he inexplicably felt resistance.

He let go curiously, and the door was gently pulled open by the girl.

She rested her forehead against the door frame, took a few deep breaths, and finally spoke:

“You… what do you want to eat…”

“I’ll make it for you.”

Chen Lu didn’t answer, just stretched out his hand and squeezed his cheek hard.

What kind of sleeping position did I use to have such a dream?!

After regaining his senses, he suppressed the rising corners of his lips and said softly: “You go to sleep. I have experience. I’ll be fine after eating some snacks.”

The girl was stubborn again. She pouted slightly, her eyes looking up at Chen Lu.

“Can I cook you a bowl of noodles? It’ll be quick. I’ll go to sleep right after I finish…”

Chen Lu felt helpless. He thought to himself, how can you use a pleading tone to ask this kind of question?

“Is that okay? Or tell me what you want to eat, and I’ll make it for you. Just as long as you eat something.”

Seeing that Chen Lu didn’t react, she continued to beg, her voice soft and gentle, lingering in Chen Lu’s ears for a long time.

Chen Lu felt like he couldn’t resist her, so he agreed. “Fifteen minutes at most. But you have to promise me that you’ll go to sleep right after you’re done.”

“Okay.”

Liang Zhirou looked at Chen Lu, her lips slightly curled upwards, showing that she was genuinely happy.

With Chen Lu’s constant encouragement, her smile grew wider.

The girl’s smile was like a blooming flower, her clear and watery eyes seemed to contain a million stars.

Chen Lu hadn’t figured out what to say yet when he saw the girl tie her hair up with a hair tie and walk towards the kitchen.

He felt his heartbeat getting faster and faster, and he sighed in his heart:

“Alright, you win today.”
