Chapter 12
Although Qin Yi didn’t respond, he immediately sat up straight and focused on Su Shengqiang when he heard that his father-in-law had something serious to say.
“Xiao Yi, Xiaowan, here’s the situation: your mother and I want to transfer all the shares of Yiwan Group to the two of you.”
Su Xiaowan immediately asked, “Dad, Mom, are you encountering some kind of difficulty?”
“Xiaowan, don’t overthink it. Sooner or later, the shares of Yiwan Group would have ended up in your hands anyway; this is just happening a bit earlier,” Su Shengqiang explained.
He then turned to Qin Yi and said, “Xiao Yi, in the past, your mother and I were indeed cautious about you, so when we established Yiwan Group, we didn’t give you any shares. You shouldn’t blame us for that.”
“Dad, how could I blame you? What you did was perfectly normal. If you hadn’t, I would have had my doubts anyway. How could I ever be upset with you?” Qin Yi replied sincerely.
Qi Manyi, hearing this, chimed in: “Old Su, see, Xiao Yi understands why we did what we did back then.”
Then she looked at Qin Yi and continued, “Xiao Yi, you don’t know, but your dad has held onto that matter all these years, thinking I shouldn’t have withheld the Yiwan Group shares from you.”
At that moment, Su Xiaowan held Qin Yi’s hand, expressing her own sense of guilt toward him.
Seeing this, Qin Yi smiled helplessly and said, “Dad, Mom, Xiaowan, I really have no hard feelings about what happened back then. I swear! You really don’t need to feel guilty toward me!”
This wasn’t just empty words—Qin Yi genuinely didn’t care about not receiving shares in Yiwan Group. As long as his wife gave him a monthly allowance, he had no complaints.
Qi Manyi’s eyes gleamed with shrewdness upon hearing Qin Yi’s words.
She then explained, “Your father and I plan to transfer his shares to you and my shares to Xiaowan. In the future, you will serve as the chairman of Yiwan Group, while Xiaowan will remain as president. You will handle the company’s external affairs, and Xiaowan will manage internal operations.”
“What?!” Qin Yi exclaimed, standing up in shock and looking at Su Shengqiang and Qi Manyi.
Immediately, he added, “Mom, Dad, you should just transfer all the shares to Xiaowan. I don’t want any. I think my current role suits me perfectly!”
“Ah, Xiao Yi, I see you’re still upset with your father and me!” Qi Manyi said sorrowfully.
Qin Yi felt that tonight’s dinner might be a trap—his mother-in-law was trying to force him to take on the family responsibility.
Feeling pitiful, he glanced at his wife.
Before Su Xiaowan could respond, Qi Manyi shot her a look and said, “Xiaowan, do you really want Xiao Yi to spend his whole life being mediocre?”
“Mom, actually, my husband has helped me a lot behind the scenes. Besides, over the years, he probably wouldn’t adapt well to a new role,” Su Xiaowan explained.
Her words weren’t meant to excuse Qin Yi—they were simply a reflection of how he had genuinely helped her with useful advice and information over the years.
Seeing his wife defend him, Qin Yi immediately added, “Mom, Xiaowan is right! I’ve been pampered all these years; I definitely wouldn’t adapt to high-intensity work.”
Su Shengqiang then pointed a trembling finger at Qin Yi, saying, “Boy, you haven’t grown at all these years—you’re even bolder now. The fact that you can say this really astonishes me!”
“Dad, I’ll take that as a compliment!” Qin Yi replied lightly.
Qi Manyi slammed the table slightly, her tone stern: “Xiao Yi, can’t you care about my daughter? Don’t you know women are at a disadvantage when handling matters outside?”
Qin Yi sensed that his mother-in-law might still be hiding something from him and Su Xiaowan.
He sat back down, lowered his head to think, then looked up and asked Qi Manyi, “Mom, do you feel there’s some kind of crisis?”
Qi Manyi was momentarily startled. She knew her son-in-law was smart—but she hadn’t expected him to deduce so much from just a few words.
Su Xiaowan also realized it—something must have changed with her parents. After all, her parents had never forced her husband to take center stage before.
“Dad, Mom, tell me the truth! Otherwise, I’ll find out myself,” Su Xiaowan said, her face cold.
Seeing her daughter and son-in-law suspect the worst, Qi Manyi sighed and finally spoke. “Very well. I had originally planned to wait until Xiao Yi settled into the chairman position at Yiwan Group before telling you the truth.”
After a pause, she continued, “Xiao Yi, Xiaowan, you should know that over the years, even though your father never once worked at Yiwan Group, he still held the chairman position firmly. You should know why, right?”
“Mom, no matter what, Dad is the eldest son of the Su family. Those investment institutions wouldn’t dare to challenge him. And since you are vice president of Su Group, even though Dad was teaching at the university while being chairman of Yiwan Group, no one dared object,” Su Xiaowan analyzed.
Qi Manyi nodded slightly, then continued, “Xiaowan, you’re right. But that was the past; the situation has changed. Your father has now received warnings from the school leadership. He must make a decision between two options. You know his greatest wish has always been teaching and nurturing students.”
After a pause, Qi Manyi looked at Su Shengqiang tenderly, then said, “My position at Su Group is also delicate now. My suggestion is that you shouldn’t aim to compete for the Su Group heirship anymore. Focus on running Yiwan Group with Xiao Yi. Once you two fully control Yiwan Group, I will step back from Su Group.”
Su Xiaowan’s face darkened. She took a deep breath and asked, “Mom, has Grandpa already decided not to return the ten percent of Su Group shares to us?”
At present, the head of the Su family is Su Xiaowan’s grandfather, Su Hongsheng, who is also chairman of Su Group.
Originally, Su Hongsheng had distributed ten percent of Su Group shares to Su Xiaowan’s father, Su Shengqiang, her second uncle, Su Minghan, and her third uncle, Su Hongwei.
However, because Su Xiaowan insisted on marrying Qin Yi, and both Su Shengqiang and Qi Manyi supported her, Su Hongsheng temporarily reclaimed the ten percent allocated to Su Shengqiang’s branch.
After negotiations, with Qi Manyi agreeing to serve as vice president of Su Group, Su Hongsheng easily regained temporary control over that ten percent of shares.
