Chapter 5
Seeing that her husband still insisted on selling those poorly located residential land plots, Su Xiaowan stopped trying to persuade him.
“Honey, I’ll have the company speed things up tomorrow then.”
“Mm! Honey, you wouldn’t have been secretly dragging your feet before, would you?”
“Honey, I just wanted you to think it over more carefully. You hardly ever go to the company, and I was afraid you were making a snap decision.”
“Honey, now that’s hurtful! I admit I’m a bit lazy, but I’ve definitely contributed to the company’s growth!”
Qin Yi was not like those brainless male leads in cliché web novels who secretly put in great effort to help the heroine build her company yet never tell her about it.
He was the opposite — if he helped his wife with even a small task, he had to mention it in front of her for at least three days.
Seeing her husband pretending to be angry, Su Xiaowan picked up her phone and transferred him another sum of money.
Once Qin Yi saw the money land in his account, he immediately decided to let the matter go for the sake of the money.
Seeing this, Su Xiaowan asked in puzzlement,
“Honey, I already gave you my bank card before. Why won’t you use it? Why do you insist I transfer money to you every month?”
“Honey, I’m devoted to living off you. If you gave me all the money in the house, then who else’s money would I live off of?” Qin Yi said stiffly.
Hearing this, Su Xiaowan just stared at her husband, momentarily at a loss for words.
Sometimes she truly admired how thick-skinned he could be.
In the end, all she could do was give him a thumbs-up.
Just then, Qin Niannian came home from school.
“Huh? Mom, Dad, why didn’t you pick me up from school?” Niannian ran over and wrapped her arms around Qin Yi’s leg.
“Daddy and Mommy were just busy talking about some things. Next time, we’ll definitely come pick you up!”
As Qin Yi spoke, he struggled to lift up his precious daughter.
“Daddy, did I get fat? You look like you’re having a hard time holding me!”
Standing beside them, Su Xiaowan stifled a laugh, then quickly said,
“Niannian, come down. Your daddy just had a lot of… exercise and needs to rest a bit.”
Seeing her mother nod at her, Niannian quickly slid down from her father’s arms.
“Mommy, Daddy, I want to watch cartoons!” she said as she trotted off to grab the remote by the TV.
Once Niannian had walked a little farther away, Qin Yi whispered under his breath,
“Ah… I love mooching off my wife, yet I also hate it.”
He glanced at Su Xiaowan and added, “Especially these two bowls of soft rice of yours.”
At first Su Xiaowan didn’t understand what he meant, but when she followed his gaze down to her chest, she immediately got it.
“Watch yourself! Your daughter’s still here!”
After saying that, she took the remote from her daughter, turned on the TV, and selected a program.
The three of them then sat together on the sofa and watched cartoons.
That evening, after dinner, Qin Yi and Su Xiaowan played with Niannian for quite a while before finally coaxing her to sleep.
The next morning, around ten o’clock, when Qin Yi woke up and went downstairs, he was surprised to find his daughter watching cartoons alone in the living room instead of being at kindergarten.
“Niannian, why aren’t you at school today?” Qin Yi crouched down in front of her and whispered.
“Daddy, I wasn’t feeling well today, so I didn’t want to go. Mommy already called in for me.”
Hearing this, Qin Yi immediately placed his hand on her forehead with concern.
“Niannian, are you feeling better now?”
“Daddy, I’ve been fine for a while! Otherwise I wouldn’t still be here watching cartoons.”
Still uneasy, Qin Yi went to ask the butler.
“Sir, the family doctor has already examined the young miss. She just needs to rest for a day.”
Only after hearing this did Qin Yi finally relax.
At noon, after lunch with his daughter, Qin Yi started coaxing her.
“Niannian, do you want this kind of toy?” he asked quietly, pointing at the toy shown on the TV.
“Yes!”
“Alright. When Daddy goes out later, don’t tell Mommy. When I come back, I’ll buy this toy for you.”
Niannian bit her thumb and thought about it for a while before softly replying,
“Daddy… could you just give me the money instead?”
Niannian knew very well that even if she liked that toy, money was more important.
And more importantly, if she got the money today, she could ask her daddy to buy her another toy tomorrow.
Hearing this, Qin Yi realized his daughter was just like him — a little miser.
“Alright,” Qin Yi said helplessly.
He then skillfully transferred money into Niannian’s personal account.
Clearly, this wasn’t the first time they’d done something like this.
As for the servants in the villa, Qin Yi wasn’t worried they would talk — not unless they wanted to lose their jobs.
As soon as she saw her daddy drive off, Niannian immediately called her mother using her kids’ smartwatch.
Before long, she had managed to con another sum of money out of her mom.
To cultivate a sense of respecting others’ privacy from a young age, Qin Yi and Su Xiaowan had made it so that only Niannian knew the password to her personal account.
If Qin Yi had seen what just happened, he would probably have coughed up a mouthful of old father’s blood.
And then said: How did I end up raising such a little leaky cotton-padded jacket!
Meanwhile, in the president’s office of Yiwan Group, Su Xiaowan was reviewing the investigation report on the Hongma Club.
She flipped through the pages, her brows tightly knitted.
She had never imagined the Hongma Club offered that kind of service.
At that moment, staring at the report, she murmured to herself,
“Could it be… my husband actually cheated on me?”
Then she immediately shook her head and said to herself,
“No, impossible! My husband would never betray me! He’s just a little lazy, a bit greedy, loves to have fun, and likes looking at pretty women. Other than that, he doesn’t really have any flaws.”
After a long moment, Su Xiaowan finally convinced herself to believe her husband hadn’t cheated on her.
Still, she decided she would have a good talk with him tonight.
She knew—
The most important thing between husband and wife is communication.
